Whats your take? Which one should I use, and which one do you use? and why?
I've tried both of these browsers and I like Chrome more in almost every aspect except one. Because of this aspect, I continue to use Safari.
I don't know if this is the official name of the feature but it seems logical to me. Autocomplete or autofill.
Basically, when I am typing a URL in Safari, if the URL is in my bookmarks or history it will complete the rest of the address for me and all I have to do is hit enter.
For example, I have [URL] in my favorites. I type "fa" and safari fills in the rest, I just hit enter and I'm there.
I cannot seems to find a good browser, yes I know Safari 5 is decent but as my wife just noted me today.
It seems that it cannot "multi-task' with tabs, what I mean she opened 2 flash games from Facebook in two tabs, so while 1 tab is playing the game the second one stands still on loading screen. I have decided to test if that was the Facebook problem and loaded 2 games in separate tabs from other game website, to my surprise same result.
Im also experiencing some issues with youtube, while Im loading video sometimes it stops loading video half way through or may be 40%.
Chrome, well its ok but sometimes it slows on flash as well.
Now the real issue I'm having is from Firefox; I have the latest version installed I think 3.6. After a few minutes it starts to get slow, later on it stops responding to the point that my dock and apple bar just freezes. The only solution is to activate spaces, move to empty space and force quit it.
Not sure if this has been talked about a bunch but I have noticed that the scrolling is very jerky in Chrome but in Safari its smooth. Btw both are updated to the current version. Could anyone else chime in if they have seen this problem or are currently experiencing this.

I recently downloaded Safari 5 and have been less than impressed. I find the performance extremely sporadic: sometimes very fast, sometimes painfully slow. I have also lost Youtube and Justintv functionality, and since I take online courses the video sites are imperative for me.
I've re-loaded Firefox and also Chrome, and over the last three days seem to be leaning towards Chrome for its balance of speed and overall functionality.
Just got my first IMac. Beautiful machine to look at, but there are a few things that I have to get used to. One of them is Safari. Actually, I prefer Google. Any comments?
View 24 Replies View Relatedjust noticed Safari 5 is out, updates better then google chrome? or is google chrome still overall a better browser?
I recently switched from Safari 5.0.3 to Chrome on my Mac, and I noticed, that Street View scrooling doesn't work as smooth on Chrome as on a Safari.
That made me wonder, so I started running different Flash demos , and it looks that Flash running from Chrome is rather significantly slower than the one for Safari...
Could anyone confirm this? They appear to be the same versions.
Now I started using Chrome 8 beta , enabled hardware acceleration, and it's not as slow as Chrome 7, but still clearly slower than Safari.
how do i transfer chrome bookmarks to safari?
OSX snow leopard 10.6.2
Well, I didn't change or install anything but since this afternoon Safari began to pause about 3/4 of the way loading a page. It would hang for about 3 seconds, give me the color wheel then load the rest of the page.
So, I installed Firefox and Chrome and they both do the same thing.
I used to have a name on this site but haven't used it in 4 or 5 years so I had to create a new one. Anyway, I started having a problem with Safari today. Every time I would go to ESPN or gmail it would freeze up, the spinning rainbow would come up and I would have to force quite the app. I thought it may just be a problem with Safari so I downloaded the latest FireFox and Chrome and to my surprise they began freezing up too doing the same thing. I've got a 13" MBP w/ the 2.53 GHz Core 2 duo and 4GB RAM. I ran a software update yesterday afternoon/evening when prompted to, but didn't check to see what it was. I do know it was one that didn't force me to do a restart.

In terms of personal experience, Chrome feels a lot faster now. [URL]
I know the PC version of GoogleChrome has an export tool but I can't seem to find one on the Mac beta version.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need a way to export my Safari passwords into Chrome of Firefox. I started using Chrome and the only thing its lacking are my passwords. If there is no way to get passwords from safari into chrome please tell me if theres a way to get them from safari into firefox because the transfer from Firefox to chrome is easy. I have tried 1password but only its trial version therefore i couldnt export the passwords into firefox.

Does anyone know what the problem could possibly be? I have already called the site and they told me they are not experiencing problems. In addition, it does load on Windows...
I would like to know which renders text better. In other words, where does text look better, on Safari or on Firefox 3.xx?
I am now using Firefox as my main browser and the things that bother me are the lack of Mac OS X integration (drop down menus, text boxes, no bouncing download icons, etc) but I can live without them because for me Firefox is technically superior...
I still have the impression though that the text renders best on Safari. Am I wrong? It seems to me that the character spacing works better on Safari than Firefox, not that the latter isn't any good. This thing could make me return to Safari again, so now I am trying Firefox out for the next couple of days.
I get this ad every time I load the page. I figured it was a cookie problem so I searched my cookies for 'Google' and deleted all the results. I'm still getting it. It's not happening in Firefox, only Safari. It's been there since Friday or Saturday. Am I the only one?

I recently bought a 13" MacBook Pro and I've been using Safari as my default browser. Before I got my Macbook and used a Windows 7 laptop, Google Chrome was my default browser. I still wanna use it as my default browser but not sure if it's as good for the Macbook as it is for Windows. I know both are fast browsers but which is the best one for the Macbook? Should I stick with Safari or should I switch to Google Chrome?

I have an Early 2011 13in MBP.For the last two days, I have had issues with web pages not loading on my MBP. Sometimes I can get a page to load and then after a few minutes of web browsing, the pages will no longer load. I was able to get the issue to "reset" by turning the wifi off and then back on, but now the pages will not load at all.
I tried using Google Chrome and Safari, but both browsers have the same issue. The last time that I used the computer was Friday. I did install a CAC reader on Friday and was able to use the computer that morning, but since yesterday the pages have stopped loading.

A couple of weeks ago, I suddenly started seeing pop ups in both my Chrome and Safari browsers. I have pop up ads turned off in both, went so far as to uninstall Chrome and the .dmg for it several times, cleared all histories, cookies, extensions, etc, etc. What's even more maddening is that it happens while just using plain old Google to do a search. I have cleaned out all old pics and documents via Finder that I no longer needed. I have nothing new that has caused this change. So what the heck is happening here??? I have been trying to track this isue down and can't find a solution. Firefox seems to be the only thing unaffected at this point, but I migrated away from Mozilla a long time ago. I've tried searching Google's forums, but the fact it's happening in Safari suggests it's something within my Mac. I've run a virus scan (semi-redundant, I'm aware, but I'm grasping) and all is clear. Do I try a malware search now?

I've heard Office:Mac isn't that great, and doesn't make up for what iWork 09 is missing. So I'm wondering what people think about it and why does it get such a bland reputation? Also, do people use a combination of the above? Such as iWork and Office:Windows? Both Offices? I do mainly word processing, some soft Excel work (no hardcore giant spreadsheets...yet), and general PowerPoints for presentations. I have access to cheap iWork/Offices (school discount) and a family pack of the top-level edition of Office:PC (family) so it isn't a big deal to get any of the above.
Lastly, what's the difference between Camino and Firefox? I use Firefox currently and love it, mainly due to the add-ons (weather at the bottom, Gmail alert, skins, page views, other customizations). Tabs seem to be on all browsers these days, so are there any other key differences?
I have successfully created an autorun (DVD/USB-STICK) image of my bands EPK (Electronic Press Kit) for Windows. However I also need it to autorun on OSX too.
On my autorun image is a portable version of Google Chrome, a portable version of Safari and a stripped down version of our website [URL] with all the supporting video, audio and images. When the DVD or USB-STICK is inserted into a PC, the site is loaded into Chrome portable. This works great!
I am not a OSX guy (though I hope to be one day soon). So I need some help/advice regarding how to make the same DVD/USB-STICK work on a Mac.
I have found a Mac version of Portable Chrome in a .dmg format here:[URL]
I have also found a Mac version of Portable Safari in a .dmg format here:[URL]
And I found info on dual OS AutoStart/AutoRun here: [URL]
Now to just combine them. That's where the confusion for me comes in for me. The main question I have is how to autostart either portable versions of Safari or Chrome from the DVD/USB-STICK? Is the .dmg image executable?
One last note: I need Chrome or Safari because I am using the HTML 5 <video> tag.
