I get an error message that says the file cannot be accessed because it is a "read-only" or in a read only location. I tried both opening it from the email and saving it to my desktop and opening it. Both ways I get the same message. These are files that I believe were created on Excel for Windows.

But, it is driving me crazy. I can open the attachments inside mac mail fine. In Entourage, says they may not be a ppt, or word, etc. doc, or that they may be "in-use."

Not sure if this is a Hotmail thing or a browser thing, but if someone attaches a jpeg to an email I recieve in Hotmail, when I click it in Firefox I get a dialogue box asking: What should Firefox do with this file? Open With [choose...] or Save file?In Safari, it just automatically downloads the picture to the default download location and then auto opens it with Preview.This is so annoying! I'm getting a weird error when I try to open Microsoft Excel 2004. "You can't open the application "Microsoft Excel" because the Classic environment is no longer supported."
1. Excel used to work just fine (I'm not sure if I've used it since I upgraded to Leopard)
2. I've seen other people say on forums that the MS Office 2004 suite works fine with Leopard
3. As far as I know the Classic environment was phased out in Leopard, though I don't think I've ever used the classic environment
4. All my other MS Office Apps work
I'm not having much luck with google, hopefully it's a dumb configuration thing that I don't know about.

Problem: I don't have my old Excel (or at least I can't find it). I do still have my old copies of Office 95 for PC but that doesn't seem to open it either. I am searching for a plugin, software or a solution for a situation I have with an Excel/Word Mail Merge.
It's a law firm we specialize in DUI/DWI and Reckless Driving defense. We subscribe to a data collection service that pulls data from various court systems around the state. We are then given this data by jurisdiction. The Excel files we receive come with 2 workbooks in one file for Traffic and Criminal arrests data with name, address, reason for arrest, etc, etc.
What I have been doing is opening each Excel file and copying and pasting into a new worksheet only grabbing the DUI and Reckless driving arrests because tis is all I am needing from the various files. I then save the new workbook and do a mail merge with Word from this newly created workbook.
Now my question is there such a plugin or software that will combine all the Excel files I receive from the Data collection house and then be able to filter out only the DUI and Reckless Driving arrests to a single Excel Workbook?
1. Turned the List Manager on by accident in Excel. Can't figure out how to turn it off now. I am using Excel 2004, and a MAC mouse - so no right-clicking for me...
2. How do I move columns in Excel? I select the column on top, but then try dragging it to a place I'd like it to move, but nothing happens. How do I do that?
3. General Mac Word/Excel question - how do I get to use "Home" and "End" buttons? When I hit them I simply jump somewhere, but not to the beginning or end of the paragraph. My daughter has just moved out and so now has her own internet and email address. Yesterday she was setting up all her new email addresses. Because she was having problems with setting up one of them, she deleted the old account even though it will still be active for another week or so and then recreated it. Now she cannot access any of her old emails from that account. The message she receives "This message from _____ has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." There are no emails left on the server and they are not on her online account either. She has some rather important emails in there. Is there anyway she can access them?

I could also write the formula that pulls the weather to excel then VLOOKUP the zip. Does anyone have any ideas about this?? I am not sure what to do!!

I recently purchased my first MAC with Excel for Mac 2008. I am unable to open any files created in it on my PC which has Excel 2003. Apple is of no help. They had assured me of compatibility at purchase citing the new open format. The MAC Excel 08 file won't open on the MAC on which is was created with their Numbers program either.

Why do attachments rec'd on my mac (10.4.11) through aol have to be downloaded before being opened? Then you have to open a zip file or open a variety of folders before you get to the item sent. Other computers allow you to just click on the attachment and the file opens immediately.

When I'm in Mail and try to open or save to my computer and then open a pdf in Preview, I get an error message -"The file “Proposal to Seattle City Light - Wolverine Study 6Mar2012.pdf” could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." This happens with all pdfs in Mail. However, if I go to email account on the Internet and download the pdf it opens no problem. This is a new problem, though I can't say if it started happening as soon as I upgraded to Lion or if it happened sometime after (definitely not before).
