I am running FCP 10.1.3. I just started a new project and the auto backup feature continuously cycles every second or two. I can see this in the Background Tasks window. I do not know where to change this setting.

In a previous contact software program I have used for years, the first letter of names, streets, and cities, were automatically capitalized as I typed them in. Unfortunately, that software does not work under Lion and the developer is out of business. Because of that, I am trying to convert to Address Book. I can't find the ability to have that same thing happen in Address Book. Is there something I can turn on in Preferences or some other obscure window? My old contact software also automatically filled in cities, names, or states that I previously entered. Great time saver but doesn't seem to exist in Address Book.

When filling in online forms with my name and address, pressing tab auto completes my address & phone number, which saves me about 15 seconds of typing once every few weeks. However I recently moved and would like to update this feature to the new address. Does anybody know how I can do this?

In Firefox, I could start typing my usernames and it would automatically fill it in. How do I get Safari to do this? I don't want Safari to remember my passwords, just the usernames so I don't have to type them each time I log in.

However, along with mouse gestures, the thing that is really holding me back is that there doesn't seem to be auto-scrolling. The little icon that pops up when you press the middle mouse button and scrolls the page automatically. Is there really no auto-scroll or am I missing something?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using the encrypted image making for sensitive files, but I am looking for something as separate iOs (yes I know it's not the right subforum but since the mods in their infinite wisdom have split the software subforums...) or OS X software that will also allow for an autodestruct feature to be feasible after a set number of failed password attempts, because there is no use really of an encrypted image if one can run brute force ad infinitum. Sure non lexicografical passwords will fair better but how well it's anyone's guess.

While sitting idle, the fan on my Mac Pro (well, I think it's one of the fans) does this strange cycling thing. At first I thought it was a truck way off in the distance, starting and stopping. Then I realized it was my Mac Pro. Sitting with no apps running, one of the fans frequently cycles on an off audibly.
I recorded it. Have a listen. You have to listen past the low frequency rumble of the Mac and you'll hear the fan spinning up and then spinning down in cycles that are typically 8 or 10 seconds, sometimes shorter.
How do I use the "auto text" feature in this application? I've entered my auto text boilerplate data and cannot find how to bring it back into the word document. I know it's correctly entered. With MS Word I used to access using the F3 key.

I have been using time machine to regularly back up all my stuff. I don't really care for time machine nor will I ever use its special stuff. I simply want my information back up on a semi-regular basis (maybe once a day TOPS or once every few days). Time Machine backs up every hour and its incredibly annoying.
Anyone have any tips for stable, great AUTO back up software?

Formatting my HD and freshly installing mac OS X, I dragged final cut into my HD and even ran the app from there, does that mean I'm good to go or is it still using files in my internal HD and would not work if completely deleted from the mac internal drive?

Is there a place I can adjust settings, mainly the frequency of backups? It seems to backup way too often on my machine. About every 15 minutes or so. And it completely haults any job I'm currently running.My work also requires I have many libraries open at once, which leads to the frequent backups of the many libraries.

When I was setting up my new mac I recovered it from an existing backup (my old computer) and everything seemed to be back to normal. On my old computer I was in the process of making a video with Final Cut Pro X and made sure that it was backed up onto the external hard drive. On my new mac when I tried to recover it, it appeared as a file that couldn't be opened with FCP. Within FCP it had the video but all of the files were missing. I started to relink all of the files but there has to be a faster way. How do I recover this file? Is there a way to just import the backup without having to ever relink files?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just updated to 10.1.3 yesterday. Ever since, FCP X 10.1.3 is constantly creating backup folders....that contain nothing in them. In one day alone, it has created more than 2,367 folders and its still going.
Even more concerning....where are the actual backups? All of the 2000+ folders are empty. I did not make a back up of 10.1.2 before upgrading.
I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.
I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson.
I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.
The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.

I am trying to recovery a file created in Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. The file was lost after a power outage. In an attempt to recover the file, my first thought was to check for the file in the Microsoft AutoRecovery 2008 folder within my hardrive. However, the folder only contains a total of four files! Why? If my Microsoft Word is set up to auto save a document every 10 minutes...then how is it possible the folder could only contain 4 files? I am at a loss of how else to recover this file. I am currently attempting to do so with a free trial of Data Recovery Software to see if the file I lost even still exists, with no success so far.

I just received my MBP yesterday. Installed a new HDD right from the get go.
Though, I read something disturbing about load cycles of an HDD which is not native to a MBP. Apparently the load cycles can get really high which decreases the lifespan of an HDD.
Now, obviously I don't want that to happen and took a look at my load cycles. The MBP has been on for about 3-4 hours now and the load cycle is at 224.
My Macbook's battery has done 902 cycles and is on 92% health.
I was just wondering - even though I know it's impossible to predict the life-span of a computer battery - a) how accurate that reading is (I use the iStat Pro widget) and b) ignoring the health reading, is it time to buy a new battery when it hits 1000 cycles?
The health has gone down from 100% to 92% in the space of about 3 months? Maybe more. Is that a sign that I should change it?
Ok, so I have a 2009 uMB 2.4 with 4GB/500GB and my battery cycle count with coconut Battery states it is at 418 Cycles and the Life states 96%, my question is?Is that good

This is the unibody MacBook the one they are calling the Classic uMB and I have had this since it was new, I bought this around February 2009, so just under 2 years old.
I know that the new 17 MBP can go through 1000 cycles or so of battery use. But what can the 13" MBA go through?
