Applications :: Software To Find Duplicate Audio And Image Files?
Apr 27, 2009I am moving over to OSX on my iMac to manage my audio and image files. Right now I have them spread over several external hard drives on my PC. I have found a good program that does a very good job of identifying duplicates in both categories. They are called Audio Comparer and Video Comparer. Right now they only have windows versions. I am also looking at DupGuru Picture and Music editions which just happen to have a version for each platform. There is also Deep which I will try.
Does anyone have any good recommendations for Mac software that can perform these functions on several external hard drives? I do not plan to use iPhoto (Photoshop, Lightroom, and Lightzone) and obviously will be using iTunes but I desperately need to find and delete all the duplicate files before bringing into iTunes. I know iTunes can locate duplicate file, but names of them may be different since they have been in several Windows programs and formats (MP3, Flac, Apple Lossless....)
I could do this on the PC, but if I can avoid purchasing software that I will not use again (PC) versus doing it on the Mac and having the software for later use is my goal.
Applications :: Will Sparse Disk Image Backup Keep Deleted Files?
May 27, 2010I use Carbon Copy Cleaner to backup. I've set it to backup to a sparse, rewritable disk image. If I, say, delete a file, then do another backup, will the file I deleted still be in the folder it was in, or will it disappear as if the backup was cleared and redone?

Dec 4, 2014When I upload a file created in third party apps like Scrivener or Nisus writer on my iMac, I see the file in the finder under iCloud drive in my MacAir, but cannot directly download it. Next to the file name there is a download icon (the same that's used in icloud.com) but clicking on it doesn't do anything. I can't drag the file to my desktop either. I have to go in my browser to icloud.com and download it from there.
I thought I can upload and download files just like in Dropbox or Sugarsync, I use both, without having to go the the icloud.com website.
I am using the latest version of Yosemite on both machines.

May 8, 2010I have an app called Teamviewer for both my iPhone and my iMac & I want to be able to have it running in the background of my iMac all the time so I can connect to it from my iPhone anytime I want. Otherwise I have to open the program to let it get connected to the web. I'd like for it to always be on without any notification of it being on like dock or taskbar menu. Here is what it looks like when it is up and running. The little grey window in the upper right corner is semi transparent when your mouse is not on it. I do have dock dodger installed so the app icon is not docked but I want both of the windows seen to be able to be gone and it still remain connected. Is this possible?

OS X :: Image Capture Not Recognizing All The Files On Camera?
Oct 10, 2007I am having problems with Image Capture not recognizing all the files on my camera (and recognizing photos that have long since been deleted).So I just took a few pictures to test out and see if I could get it to work right. I plugged in my camera and opened up image capture. I clicked download all. It downloaded two pictures that are not even on my camera (I double checked to make sure) and they were deleted weeks ago. And it's not recognizing the pictures I just took. There are about 23 pictures and it's not recognizing any of them just the two pictures that were deleted a while back. What's going on here? I'm new to Mac by the way.

Sep 19, 2009I have a whole bunch of swf files, they all contain basically what is a printed page. I would like to convert them into a PDF/Image. I have tried everything, flash decompilers result in a whole bunch of text/image files all broken up into bits of the page, with no formatting. When I view the swf files with a swf viewer, say iSwiff, the page flashes up for a brief second, then goes away. Tried multiple viewers, including firefox. If I do a screen recording then I can see the page, but only for one video frame. I have tried swf to image/video converters, they only say the file has 1 frame, and that frame has nothing on it. How can I convert these swf files to ANY other format than this?

When I save an image file, it saves in QuickTime format. I don't have PhotoShop. I have preview, or digital camera software. The QuickTime thing is creating problems for me and I don't know how to change it. It seems to keep reverting.
I use Virtual Response, an email software program (terrible, but that's another story) used by PR people. It will only let me upload a logo as jpg, tif, gif. I received one that's .eps... I found online freeware that will convert .eps to .jpg, but it always saves the .jpg as QuickTime format, which the email software refuses to upload.

OS X :: Secure Deleting Files Within An Encrypted Disc Image?
Jun 28, 2008I have a question about OSX 10.4.11 and secure deleting. My understanding is that even after secure delete has been used to erase a particular file, older fragments of that same file can remain on the hard drive. Assuming this also applies to secure deleting files from a mounted encrypted disc image (created using the disc utility), would I be correct in saying that even if file fragments remained, once the image is unmounted, those file fragments would be encrypted like everything else within the disc image. I guess what I'm really asking is whether, when one deletes a file from an encrypted disc image, that file data is moved outside of the encrypted data blocks into clean drive space. I don't see why this would be the case but was wondering whether anyone knew.
I appreciate one can always use the free space eraser within disc utility to "mop up" but I'm still interested about individual file deleting.
(Btw, this is my first post and as a courtesy, I did search the forums for this topic but didn't find anything. If I missed something in my search and this has already been answered, apologies!)
OS X :: Image Files Showing Icons In Coverflow Instead Of Preview?
Jul 14, 2009I don't know when this started happening, but all of a sudden in coverflow all the images display as their file type icon, not the preview of the image, which defeats the purpose of coverflow. Anyone know how this happened and how to switch it back?
Incidentally, all the icons show for Xee, the image browsing app, which I'm using only because Preview is being a jerk and constantly displaying itself in my secondary monitor, which I keep off most of the time (it's a wacom cintiq, and it's distracting to have turned on when not in use). If I can somehow fix this all by fixing preview and getting rid of Xee, I certainly would.
OS X :: Unable To Open Image Files Saved To Disk
Aug 7, 2009All of a sudden my computer (imac, 10.4.11) won't let me open images downloaded from digital cameras (I've tried several - so it's not the cameras). I get the following error - "Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." Also the same basic error when using Photoshop and Fireworks. I can open files still on the camera, or saved to a CD - just not anything dragged to the desktop. I can still open pictures which had been previously saved - but nothing new. I ran the Repair Disk utility, which found and apparently fixed an Illegal Name error on the hard drive, but the problem still persists.

Feb 27, 2010I'm using a 2GHz PowerPC G5, OS X 10.4.11, with 1 GB on one dimm. I cannot open ANY .dmg files. I have tried clicking the image, and also on a clean download used "open with" each time I received the following message The following disk image failed to mount
Reason: Device not configured
I have followed the instructions in this thread:- Disk image failed to mount: Device not configured.
Firstly Run /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
Click on "Macintosh HD" in the left column and then press the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.
Delete the file called /System/Library/Extension.kextcache
Delete the folder called /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernalcaches/
Restart
That made no difference. I then tried bobw's advice here Panther - Disk Image "mounting Failed" Panther - Disk Image "mounting Failed". That made no difference. I have since gone on to justanswer.com and the advice I received was to do an archive and install and then a full combo update.

Apr 16, 2012Safari used to let me drag an image from a webpage to the finder and have the dragged file be saved as an actual image but now all that's saved is a webloc file. I want the image saved, not a reference to the image's URL - do I now have to always use "save as" to save it?
I can understand Safari creating a webloc file if I dragged the site icon from the location bar to the finder, but to make the default behavior for dragging things that are parts of a page (not the page itself) as webloc files seems like a HUGE step backwards for usability.
Does anyone know if there's, say, a key to hold when dragging to avoid saving a webloc file or a defaults command or something to make Safari revert back to sane draging behavior?

May 25, 2012When a user copies an image from a browser into PowerPoint 2011 he gets text of a link back to the image, not the image itself. But if he copies from a browser into Word he gets the image, and can then copy the image from Word to PowerPoint. Same results with both Firefox and Safari. Behavior is new so I assume it relates to recent software updates but user does not recall accepting any.

May 20, 2005On the PC version of Maya, by pressing CTRL and the different mouse buttons you could do a series of different movements within Maya. The left button provided a rotate, horizontally and vertically. The right button acted as a zoom in and out. And the middle button would pan. However, I can't seem to Pan in Maya which is becoming increasingly frustrating because I would like to zoom in close to do high detail, yet I cannot pan up and down against my image planes.
