I have a Belkin USB hub with 4 slots. I was trying to transfer some movies to an external drive. It said it'd take 7 hours. When I connected the drive directly to my laptop, it took 5 minutes. I'm wondering if there is a better hub to use or if this one is just defective.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI nearly purchased and downloaded James Cameron's Aliens, when I noticed below the purchase buttons the note that This movie will not be available from iTunes in the Cloud. Why? Isn't that point of a digital copy? I could just as easily buy a used DVD cheaper and rip it. The film is still for sale in the iTunes store, why could I not get it in the Cloud? Does this also mean I can't download it again if it's deleted?

I realised a couple of days ago that several of my movies and tv shows that I purchased are no longer downloaded on my computer but are stored on the cloud. Now how do I get a backup on my drobo external disk? I don't want to fall or be without wifi and not being able to watch movies or tv shows.
Music has a download icon next to it, but that is not there for movies and tv shows. I have my itunes folder on my drobo, and want to keep it that way...

I need to move the music and movies from my MacBook Air (original) to an external hard drive, after I do this, do I create a new music folder and media folder on my computer to load music/movies in via the dedicatd external drive and then would I be able to move the newly imported to the external drive which would be my main site of storage?

I recently bought a macbook pro and am making the transition from a pc to mac. It's all gone well so far, but I'm not sure what to do with my music. I currently have about 200 gb of music on my external hard drive (connected to my pc.) The internal hard drive on my pc does not have space to accomodate the files on my external.
I do not have the "Copy files to iTunes music folder" currently enabled because my internal doesn't have space. (And I like having the original music files in a separate location as I have over 30,000 songs). I don't know how to transfer my external and music to my macbook, since I will have to reformat the drive (which would erase everything on it, therefore I somehow have to make a backup either on my mac or on my pc. but what to do about the iTunes .xml file and iTunes folder on the internal pc drive??).
I have an external drive to store all my movies since I have no room on my iMac. I'd also like to watch my movies on other computers and I was wondering if there's a movie player that can be installed on the external drive to watch some movies like (.mkv) and so on.

As I plug in the hard disk in my Mac, I can't transfer the files. It says something like "the disk cannot be modified". So, please help me on how can I transfer this files from my Mac and if I do format it to work with the Mac, will it work for Windows later?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI pretty much made the switch to all MAC a few months ago. I have a few external drives that i use with Media players and they prefer and work better when formatted to NTFS problem is, MACs can only read and write to FAT32. I have Windows 7 on my macbook ( though my movie collection is on my iMac ) via bootcamp, so that isn't a option. I heard and read about some programs and what not.. but what is the fastest and easiest way to transfer files from my iMac to a NTFS formatted HD? I have movies ( some over 4gb in size ) on my iMac.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy music collection is entirely on a 500 GB MyBook running through my current desktop PC. I am interested in a new Mac, but I am wondering, how will I be able to transfer all of my music files to the new Mac?
Can the new iMacs read MyBook external hard drives? Do I have to burn all of my music files onto dvds? Must I get bootcamp and purchase Windows for the Mac?
I am going to get an MBP 17" in 1 month time (first Mac) and I would like to get an external hard drive for backup & media storage.
My media files are on a desktop PC and, as I am also about to move to a different country, it would be ideal for me to do the following:
1) get the external drive and transfer files from PC to the drive now
2) take it with me and connect it to MBP when I get the Mac
As mentioned, I have never owned a Mac and all the stuff I find on the internet relates to transferring files from PC to Mac. Is it possible to transfer those files to the Mac drive "in absence" of the MBP?
I am having hard time copying photos from iMac to external hard drive to create more disc space. Is there another way to create disk space.

All my music is on an external hard drive created some while ago through a Sony Vaio PC. I now want to use that same hard drive to manage my music on my Mac, but it won't let me.
Secondly, I cannot get my bought music - while using my Mac - to be recognised and synched onto my iPod, although it plays fine on the computer itself.

I have plugged in my External drive to my MacBook Pro, and it's all fine when I open the files in it. But as I try to transfer files to my hard drive, it won't transfer. Instead it keeps denied and the same goes when I try to transfer some files to another persons hard drive.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a quick question that maybe you guys can help me with. I used to store all my music on an external drive, but now that I got a Mac I decided to just save them on the internal drive. When I select the External drive and Copy the files to transfer somewhere along the lines it gives me an error and pretty much the transfer Stalls(the transfer window stays open but nothing is being moved) and it wont close or nothing unless I restart. I really don't know what file is corrupt or anything, Is there a software I can get to make this process easier? I am trying to transfer over 100gb of music Via USB.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy new iMac is arriving tomorrow and I need to transfer everything over to it. I know about Migration Assistant, but I want to know if there will be any complications due to the data I have on an external hard drive.
Specifically, I currently have an older (white) iMac hooked up to two 2TB external hard drives. One if for backup but the other one has all my iPhoto and iTunes content on it, including about 1.5 TB of movies and TV shows that I have ripped. None of this material is on the computer's internal hard drive - it is all on the external hard drive.
Because my new iMac has a 2 TB internal hard drive, I want to transfer all the iPhoto and iTunes content currently on the external hard drives onto the internal hard drive of the new iMac. Will Migration Assistant handle this and will it be clear what I need to do?
