View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently (2 months ago) got a 17" MBP, and I used Target Disk/Firewire to "clone" the contents of my 2 year old iMac onto it. It all worked great, and went fine, however last night I attempted to use Boot Camp to create a 64GB partition to install Windows 7, and got the dreaded "The disk cannot be partitioned" error, "please format your HD and reinstall OS X" message.
I ran various tools (Disk Utility from OS X Install DVD, Disk Warrior, MainMenu, Onyx, etc) to try repair and perform maintenance, then I bought iDefrag and ran a full defrag overnight, but this morning I noticed it had failed half way through, and it too suggested reformatting the HD.
I have a full Time Machine backup on my 1TB USB drive (connected to my Mac Mini, it backs up to the MBP over the network) so my question is how easy is to it completely format my MBP hard disk and restore a complete Time Machine backup? I'm completely panicking even about the though of it, I've never done a reinstall/format since I switched to Macs in July 2008!!

I get this message: "You can't open the application App Store.app because it may be damaged or incomplete." I can't get it back through my Apple icon in upper left. It's not there. I can't find it through Finder. My software is up to date.Â
My operating system is Mac OS X Version 10.6.8. I don't know if that means I have Snow Leopard or not. I do not want to upgrade to Lion because it will cause previously purchased third-party digital scrapbooking software to quit working. How do I get the App Store Icon back? Everything I can find about getting it seems to be driving me to Lion. I can't even FIND the App Store anymore.

I just had to install a new hard drive to my mid 2010 imac. I restored with time machine. I cannot find the original OS disc. Upon restoring it appears there is a problem with the webkit framework as Safari, App store, and Skype all freeze upon clicking on them and after bouncing, they never open. Chrome is working. What do I do?

I'm running Snow Leopard on my new Macbook Pro. I've got a 1.5TB External hard drive that I'm trying to figure out how to format in HFS+ with Apple Partition Map. I can figure out how to format in HFS using Disk Utility, however it still does it in GUID format and I do not know how to do it in Apple Partition Map.
Googleing this for hours has lead with all kinds of information on how to go to GUID FROM Apple Partition Map but not the other way around. I know GUID is the new hottness.. but this drive will be used exclusively to connect to my XBOX 360 and it supposedly only reads HFS+ when its formatted with Apple Partition Map. (I have tried it with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with GUID, and the XBOX does NOT recognize it) I do not want to use Fat 32, (I know that that is the other major option) beacuse it limits file size.
I'm using Macbook Pro(2010, 10.6.6) and a PC with Windows 7. I need to transfer image files from both laptops to an external drive. I formatted the external drive in exFAT and wanted to know if there are any problems that might occur in the future. I already know there is an issue with such programs as Carbon Copy Cloner. I primarily need the drive for backup of the images and not system backups. Do you have any file corruption or other problems formatting in exFAT?

What video format is best when using the "dvd video from video-TS" option in Toast 7.0.2? My goal is to burn a video onto a dvd and then watch it on any tv. So far, I've tried the .mpg and mpeg4 video formats. I find that the video quality with .mpg is poor with a jittery picture when watching it on tv via a dvd disk. The video itself plays fine on the computer, and the dvd-r disks that I use are of high quality. Comparatively, Toast did not accept the mpeg4 format when dragging this video into the "dvd video from video-TS" window.

Is there away to format a mac but retain some applications (it would be under a new account profile)? Also is there away to like import an old mac's admin account to a separate account on a new mac? In iTunes 9 you could just drag the bar besides the artwork and it would increase as much as you liked. Now if you click on Album by artist you can choose artwork small - medium - large, but it's not big enough!

Originally I had it formatted as Mac OS extended Journalled, until I ran into a problem of transferring files to a windows pc at home. So I reformatted it to NTFS-3G with a driver I installed on the mac. However I noticed it transfers files like 4 times slower. Does NTFS suck that bad? (rhetorical)
I am thinking or reformatting back to Mac Journalled and installing MacDrive (which I stumbled upon today on the net) on my windows machine. Would that be faster than my current way or all the same?

I'm an old-school Visual Hub user when it comes to converting video formats. Unfortunately, that app is no longer being made and it doesn't solve my current problem so looking for some advice. My nephew won an MP3/video player as part of a contest at school. Its not an iDevice but its a prize and he's enamored with it. The problem is, although it supports video, it only seems to support files formatted in the "MTV" format which I understand to be really limited technology.
Can anyone recommend a decent media conversion program that will let me convert MP4's, AVI's and such to the MTV format? Its likely time I upgrade from Visual Hub anyways so I don't mind spending some money on a useful app. The problem is most of those I see mentioned in the forums here don't specifically mention the MTV format.
My old MB got attacked by some tea and died. So now I have a new unibody although the main thing that I have lost from my old MB is my IWeb pages. I have mobile me and have the site published to that. How can I download the site to my MB in IWeb format? I've tried downloading them as HTML but IWeb can't open them.
