Aperture :: Remove Images From Library Without Deleting Referenced Files

Jun 19, 2014

I cannot find solution: how do I remove images from Aperture library completely (all versions, etc), but keep the referenced master files? (all my images are kept outside aperture lib, as referenced masters).

If I delete all versions and projects, they go to Trash, and attempting to empty the Trash brings only two options: delete permanently and move to system Trash. But I do not want to touch the referenced masters in any way. Is there a way to keep them safe, while emptying Aperture of all references to those files?

OS X Mavericks :: Silence Badges In Do Not Disturb

Jun 2, 2014

I am using a Macbook Pro (2011 model) and running OS X Mavericks. I am able to turn on Do Not Disturb in the Notification Center, which hides banners and alerts. However, I would like badges to also be hidden when I turn on Do Not Disturb (without having to separately disable badges for the individual applications).

How I would go about doing it?

Aperture :: Will Not Reference Files

Jun 21, 2014

I have thumbnails but when double clicked the picture is black. I have rebuilt Aperture every way possible. This happened, and has happened in the past since upgrading to mavericks. I have had nothing but problems since doing so. I get a message that the application memory is full and I have to force quit Aperture. I used exactly the same editing in Mountain Lion and never once had this problem.

Applications :: Converting RAW Files In Aperture?

Applications :: Managing IPhoto, Aperture, Etc. Files?

Dec 24, 2009

I seem to be accumulating a lot of "duplicate" photo files. Some are in iPhoto & some are in Aperture. I import the files from the camera with Nikon transfer. Then I import them into iPhoto. Then I may import them into Aperture. When I use Finder I see multiple file with the same name & either the same or different file extension. I'm going to stop using Nikon transfer, & directly import from the camera to iPhoto. Is there a way to sync photo files to eliminate duplicates or an easy way to organize files so I can delete duplicates?

Applications :: Unable To Get Aperture 3 To Work With GPS Log Files

Feb 21, 2010

I haven't been able to get Aperture 3 to work with any GPS log file. And I mean anything. Not CSV, KMZ, NMEA or GPX files. Either they are not read at all, or they are read halfway and crash the program. I'm using a Columbus V-900 which produces weird CSV files, but seem to export fine using TimeAlbum to basically any format I want. Maybe a software update soon to make this feature work better?

Aperture :: Import Does Not See Files On Hard Drive

Dec 7, 2014

This happens again and again, and it's EXTREMELY irritating.

I am trying to import some existing JPEGs on my Desktop. When I try Import in Aperture, the file browser simply does not see most files and folders. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. It seems to happen on a whim. This is very bad, I have just about had it with Aperture. And yes, permissions are set correctly.

On what basis Aperture sees or does not see certain files/folders?

Aperture :: Can Copy Certain Library Files From Finder

Jun 4, 2014

I have an older library, that I updated to the current Aperture, and recently froze from bad media.  I think it was a bunch of videos in one of the events.  Anyways, I want to copy some of the photos from a event in the old library to a new working library. I tried exporting and it froze, leaving the photo export in some limbo state...

Aperture :: Elements 12 Can't Open Files From 3.5.1 Version

Sep 8, 2014

I just upgraded to Elements 12 from 10 which was previously able to open anything from Aperture 3.5.1 via External Editor.

The directory appears to be okay, since it launches the the program successfully. But I'm just left with a black screen in Elements. I shoot RAW primarily, but jogs don't open either.

Opening files from the desktop works perfectly fine.

Aperture :: 3.5.1 / OS X 10.10 - RAW Files Suddenly Show Up As (not Supported)

Sep 8, 2014

I’m running the latest Aperture (3.5.1, Digital Camera RAW 6.00) on the Yosemite Beta (10.10).Photos that have been imported some months ago (recent vacation, Nikon D7000 RAW files) suddenly show up as “Unsupported Image Format”, even though they worked fine until I wanted to order a book from this vacation. Once that problem started to manifest, also some RAW photos from my Lumix GM1 show up as unsupported, others work just fine. These images were imported some time ago, edited and exported to flickr, thus used to be accessible just fine with Aperture.I’ve   - run all three options from the special startup of Aperture (Repair Permissions, Repair Database, Rebuild Database),  - ran Disk Utility to repair the permissions and repaired my disk  - reprocessed the Originalsbut still cannot access the files, as the short movie here shows. Accessing the files with Nikons ViewNX 2 works fine (obviously only the Nikon RAW files). But even if I re-save the affected files with the Nikon software and re-import them to Aperture, Aperture shows the dreaded “unsupported file format” image for these files…

Applications :: Aperture Handling Large Amount Of Files

Sep 1, 2010

If in aperture i have a folder/album with say 60GB of pics in (from one event, RAW pics). Then i have say 10 labelled with 5*.

If i load the folder only showing 5* pics, will it load immanently, or will it have to scan through all 60GB to find the *ed pictures.

At the moment, using Adobe Bridge on my old PC, it takes ages (hence why i separate them into 2 folders once sorted). I was hoping that aperture would just load the *ed ones if you tell it to and not have to look through all the files each time. (Bridge loads them, then sorts them).

Also, about stacks. i take lots of time lapses (frame by frame) so i end up with lots of similar pictures. If i had a stack with a few thousand pictures in, would aperture handle this well? If i had an album with 3 stacks in, each with 5000 pics in, will the album load quick, and only when i open a stack it take longer to load.

Intel Mac :: Aperture Crashing Whole Computer While Editing RAW Files

Apr 25, 2012

I am a Photographer and so I have many RAW files on my Mac. I use Aperture to edit, but in the last few days when I am editing a picture (zoomed in, skin smoothing or retouching) App will just close, the only warning being the coloured spinning ball. Last night my whole computer just switched off whilst I was in the middle of editing, and this morning the screen went dark and an instruction came up to turn off the computer by holding the power button, and restart.

I've checked my RAM and there seems to be plenty. It was just an issue exclusively to Aperture, but now I seem to be experiencing the spinning coloured ball when trying to use Safari. So there is something missing. I was wondering if it just may be Aperture, in which case I was going to export all the projects to the desktop and then uninstall and reinstall the software.

Aperture :: How To List File Paths For All Files In A Project

Sep 6, 2014

I'm running Aperture 3.4.5 on a MacPro mid 2010.  I import by reference into the appropriate project.  The project's file directory is the same as the name of the project.  I.E., screen shots from the Next Issue application are kept in a project called "Next Issue".  The project keeps it's photos in a directory called "Next Issue".

As needs change files may be moved from one project to another.  This causes a major problem as the files remain in their original location, i.e. are not moved to the directory associated with their new project.  For example, the Next Issue screen shots show up in Photostream.  I move the photos to the "Next Issue" project, but the original file still stays in the photo stream folder on disk.

The reason this matters is the disk with the pictures is duplicated and then connected to an Oppo media center.  I find files I need on the Oppo by going to the directory associated with the files, i.e. "Next Issue".  Since those files originally were in a photo stream directory  they still reside there.  So unless I can remember thousands of file locations it can't be found on the Oppo, which doesn't have a search function for an externally attached drive.

I suppose that I could go to each directory, select everything, and do a relocate master.  But after a long night of organizing if I don't remember which projects where changed then that means relocating up to 100 directories and 70,000 files ….

Applications :: Why IPhoto / Aperture Store Files In Library Package

Aug 15, 2010

Why do they store files in that library package and not in Finder?? This really drives me crazy and I feel like there has to be some sort of benefit that I'm not seeing. It looks like in Aperture I can choose to import photos to folders that are outside of the Library but you still have to manually choose where etc. It seems like in a perfect world, the files would show up exactly as the do in iPhoto, organized in folder by the Events that they reside in. And I can't even ctrl-click a picture in Aperture and say "Show in Finder" or anything! The reason I'm trying to do this is so that I can upload pictures to Facebook, as the Facebook uploader built into both Apps are extremely limited.

Software :: Aperture - Random Duplicate Files Keep Appearing In Library

Mar 5, 2006

I have been using Aperture for a bit now, and sometimes some Images just duplicate themselves and pop up at the top of the library. These duplicates have the same size as the screen of my camera, they are not ery good quality. Yet when you delete them, the actual image cannot find its master file anymore, to do its caculations. I then have to start all over....importing, (if I didn't format the compactflash card yet), editing, tagging etc.

Aperture :: Unable To Import Master Files From Memory Card

Jun 3, 2014

As always I wanted to add a new project with incrementally new RAW files from my SD memory card. I have the photo management system the image master files (RAWS) are stored in Pictures folder on the HDD. The import dialogue enables to select a destination folder to Pictures as usual, but it doesn't show Move or Copy files option anymore. Without this, it just imports images as referenced images to the ones placed on the memory card, which I subsequently can't format, because, I'd lost all the photos. Move or Copy files option shows up when I pick other import source than memory card, eg. my HDD. I tried everything, can't figure this out. I find Aperture unreliable now and will move to Adobe Lightroom, if won't find a solution.
