MacBook :: Installed Snow Leopard Now Cannot Import Pics From Camera
Mar 16, 2012
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on my Macbook and iMac. My camera will not Import any pictures since the upgrade onto the macbook only, the camera is recognised on the iMac in iphoto and the easyshare software. I had no issues with the camera using Leopard. The error message reads, "camera not detected, please retry" this is in the kodak easyshare software and the pictures will not Import into iPhoto either.
I have a Kodak M532 easyshare camera with a Sandisc SDHC memory card. The camera uses a usb lead. The memory card works on the iMac and it is also recognised in the Kodak printer memory card reader, so I don't think it is the memory card at fault. I took out the memory card then took some pictures, iPhoto and easyshare software recognised the camera and Imported them on the macbook.

After installing Snow Leopard on both of my computers, I have found that while the computers recognize my digital camera it will not allow me to import photos into i-photo and eventually you have to just force quit i-photo to get out of it.

I'm just about to take delivery of a new iMac 24" that will be running Snow Leopard. It will also have Aperture 2 on it.
My question probably is a stupid one. What is the best way to import all my pics from my old MacBook that has Aperture 1.5 on it? This old MacBook is backed up always to an external firwire drive which I can in turn hook up to the new iMac. I'm assuming (= hoping) that Aperture 2 will just have some kind of import option that will do all the work for me. Or is this too much to expect?

How do I download pictures to mac os x with sd card? I've been using a usb port but I have a video on my camera that is too long and it shuts off before it downloads. My friend uses windows and he just takes the sd card out of the camera and plugs it into a slot and downloads the pics. I can't do that on my mac os x.

I am trying to import 403 pics from my iPhone 4s/iOS 7.1.2 into Aperture 3.5.1 on iMac running OSX 10.9.4. Â
All of the pics are showing up in Aperture and have been removed from the iPhone, but the pics are not going into the new project folder I created to hold these. The library lists the folder, but the Projects Viewer shows it nowhere. Â
There is a spinning gear at the bottom of my Aperture screen labeled "Importing..." and the clock indicates nearly completed import. Aperture seems hung up and has been importing for more than a day now.Â

I have just installed Snow Leopard on my MacBook, and now all my applications have disappeared from my desktop plus I can't access to my User folder which contains everything including CS4 package. It tells me that I don't have permission to access these folders, which there is only 1 account user on this Mac. Â
Help!!! What do I do to get a permission to use my old folders from Leopard (10.5)?  And yes, I have backed up everything on my external hard drive before I installed this Snow Leopard! I was assured that I won't lose everything when I have loaded this on, only difference is the software is updated and newer apps but now I can't look into anything I had on my Mac! Â

I've never had problems with this digital camera under Leopard, but now under Snow Leopard, when plugged in, iPhoto is opened but nothing happens at all. Nothing in finder. Is it possible that this camera is no more supported? I tried to look for new drivers, but drivers are available only up to MacOSX 10.5. Is there anything I can do? (camera is HP Photosmart R818)

With Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard entering the final stretch of development, overzealous Apple advocates are turning to discussion boards and file sharing websites to show off image and video captures taken from the next generation OS, most recently highlighting features such as simplified security preferences, enhanced searching, QuickTime X's screen recording function and a new version of Image Capture.
On Monday, attention was drawn to a YouTube user's webpage brandishing over a half dozen Snow Leopard demonstration videos, five of which were subsequently removed by the user while another was yanked from the video sharing website after Apple waged a copyright claim. Since then, readers have pointed to a long-running thread over at the French-language MacGeneration website that's serving as yet another forum offering Snow Leopard-related discussion illustrated by numerous screenshots and videos.
QuickTime X Screen Recording
Readers are free to navigate the thread on their own, though AppleInsider has extracted a handful images showing off some features that have received limited coverage in the past or haven't been represented fully in imagery, such as the recently-reported screen recording options due to arrive as part of QuickTime X Player 1.0. Portions of the native recording interface can be seen in the alert below, which initiates a screen capture session and directs the user to a menu bar option to end a session.
Once a user has concluded a Screen Recording session, the following interface and options provide a means of saving and exporting movies files in different sizes and formats.
QuickTime X also offers options for publishing supported movie files to iTunes in one of three pre-set sizes. From iTunes, they can be synced with an iPhone, iPod, or Apple TV:
New Image Capture App
Also worth noting is that Image Capture has grown as an application to adopt a user interface that is more like iTunes and the Finder, with a sidebar for devices, main window for file info and a thin row of controls lining the bottom of the application.
Universal Keyboard Shortcuts
Preference panes are also showing a convergence of UI as shown in this screenshot of the new Keyboard & Mouse preference pane:
Advanced Security Options
As always, Apple takes Security seriously. At the same time, it doesn't want to intimidate less savvy users from taking advantage of all the Mac has to offer. The below example demonstrates a simplified and easy to manage option that helps keep users safe while on the net.
Chinese Handwriting Recognition
With the private release of the most recent Snow Leopard beta, Apple also informed developers about the addition of Chinese handwriting recognition support for Macs that include a multi-touch trackpad. Similar software was added to iPhone Software 2.0 a year ago, allowing users to draw Chinese symbols on their handset's touchscreen and then select matching symbols suggested by the iPhone Software. This feature can be seen in action for the first time in the below YouTube video:
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is expected to hit the market sometime this summer with a near finalized version now confirmed to make an appearance at Apple's annual developers conference during the second week of June.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]

my built-in iSight has failed very often during Skype video calls. More specifically, let's say I'm in a video call and I'm showing my webcam to the other person. It works for many minutes, and then I pause the call. As soon as I pause it, I get a message saying something like "no video camera detected, make sure it's plugged in", and from then on my system acts as if there were no iSight installed even if I un-pause the call.If I then go to any other application that makes use of iSight, like Photo Booth for example, it says that there is no camera installed on the system, with a crossed-out camera icon and a black screen in place of the video.

I have a c2d 2.0 ghz black macbook that runs 10.5.8 right now with 120 GB SSD. I was trying to install Snow Leopard on to it via the dvd that came with the new 27inch iMac I bought, yet after i pop in the DVD, the screen shows that "Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer," did some search, and tried the following
1 verify, repair disc image as well as disc permission under disc utility,
2. repartitioned the drive, I partitioned the drive and then revert it.
3. Boot the computer via Snow Leopard DVD, and under it, the screen still says " Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer" In other words, I can't even do a clean install.
I have never been so frustrated with my macs before, I tried digging around for answers on google and still no hope.

When my girlfriend and I are in different time zones, which is unfortunately quite often, we communicate in part by sending small "movie postcards" to each other. We've been doing this with iMovie and the built-in iSight cameras in our macbooks, up- and downloading the .mov files using Dropbox. Â
This has worked OK, but the files are quite big, about 100 MB per minute. With slow bandwidths this can be a pain, and the image quality isn't that great, so I'm thinking there must be a better way to do this. Can't the video files be made smaller?

why does my digial camera not show up in Finder? (camera is Nikon D7000)Â
there are situtions when you don't want to download photos, sometimes I'm just doing tests, and want to see photos in the camera instead of downloading them first.. ( at any rate this should be my choice to make, not Apple's....;-)
and: I want to see the camera in the FINDER (not iPhoto or any other program where you have to "import" the photos.. I don't like those programs and never use them..)Â
it doesn't even show up in Adobe Bridge, for pete's sake.. this is ABSURD..
but on the pc you see it right away in Windows Explorer... no reason whatsoever why the mac shouldn't do this also...

I've got an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo running Tiger 10.4.11.I've successfully installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3 onto an external drive (or so the screen said). My mac recognizes the external drive as a start-up disk and allows me to select it as such. But upon restart, machine comes up in Tiger. My external drive is brand new, OWC Mercury Elite AL Pro using a fire-wire connection. After installation but two failed attempts at start-up, I ran first aid on the external and no repairs were necessary. Using System Prefs I selected the external as my start-up disk, hit Re-start, but machine still restarts from Tiger
The only other piece of information that may be vital, that I can think of, is that I misunderstood the "Mac readiness" of the drive when I took it out of the box. I first erased it (unnecessarily). Then I discovered this mistake, and made a point to re-format it using the GUID partition setting. Computer claimed that installation was successful upon installing Snow Leopard. But now, machine will not start up in Snow Leopard.

There are a few fonts (OTF/TTF/PSF...) I have installed with Font Explorer X, what won't show up in ANY application.Even Text Edit won't display them. However this isn't a problem linked to Font Explorer because before this I had Suitcafe Fusion 3 and had the same problem. What makes it strange is that there are a few fonts of some families that DO show up although they are JUST THE SAME as the fonts that won't show up and are from the SAME family.
I cleaned my cache numerous times with applications like Font Finagler and checked everywhere for font corruptions or duplicates with applications like Font Doctor but nothing seemed wrong or corrupted. If I go and check the fonts in System Profiler it clearly says they are valid and enambled.Â
Now what makes it even more unexplainable is that when I install the fonts trough Font Book and shut down the font manager, they DO show up...Howevery I'm not really happy abouth that because Font Book is a crappy font manager and I paid money for a good one...

I just converted to a 2007 Macbook (wife's old comp) and was using Sony's PMB software with my PC (Windows XP SP2). I know that I can use iMovie '08 to import the files but they are HUGE. I assume it's because PMB imports in AVHCD format and iMovie uses .MOV? Is there another program I can use to import my files. I don't want to waste all my hard drive space importing a few movies.
