Mac Keeps Freezing / Its Slow / Connection To Mouse Keeps Getting Disconnected
Jun 21, 2012
My mac keeps freezing, its slow, and the connection to the mouse keeps getting disconnected. can someone help me. please Also up in the right corner were the it shows the internet connection it never shows bars but the internet works.
I just upgraded from a MBA rev A to a rev B. I experienced this with both machines, so it's not just a rev A issue...
I use a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and everything is fine... until my hourly wireless Time Machine backup starts. Then the mouse cursor becomes very choppy and sluggish. As soon as the hourly backup completes, the mouse's responsiveness returns to normal. Throughout all this, the trackpad is just as responsive as always -- no change there. I don't have another bluetooth mouse to see if its just the Mighty Mouse.
When this happens, the Activity Monitor is not spiked. The fans aren't running loud (so I don't expect its an overheating issue). This doesn't happen during a large wireless download -- just Time Machine. It's not a big deal, but rather an annoyance.
Any ideas why? Or even more to the point, any ideas on how to fix it?
My macbook is suddenly VERY slow. It can take 10 minutes to open finder or anything else for that matter. I have over 300 GB of space on my internal hard drive so it's be a space issues. The problem started during an import of music from my external hard drive into iTunes. I ended up having to force shut down because it wouldn't respond to anything else. Why is my computer so slow now!?!
I have had my Mac Book Pro for a few years and it freezes all the time. I have to force quit out of my internet at least three times a day if not more, I took it into apple last year and they gave me a new hardrive. I have gone back in twice becuase it continues to freeze and they say nothing is wrong wiht it.
I have 15", 1.8 GHz Macbook Pro with 2GHz RAM. The keyboard and mouse pad freezes from time to time. No button on the computer works except the power button. I always have to press and hold the power button to reboot the computer. The computer seems to be running normal. Just the keyboard and mouse pad don't work.I brought the computer to Mac guys @ apple for couple of times and the computer acts normal when he guys is testing.
My mouse pad is acting weird. My mouse keeps freezing and I cannot log in to my computer. Sometimes when I move the mouse it just jumps around the screen but it will not go to the what I'm trying to click on. I tried to reboot the computer.
To preface this, this is my friends macbook and I'm very unfamiliar with how they work. However, she had dropped her laptop off her bed (i'm not sure how bad of fall it was) , suffice it to say her screen broke and she asked me to fix it. This turned out to be a fairly routine job, save for the hinge that is a total pain to get back on.
On starting the macbook up, the screen/camera work fine but it is moving at a terribly slow rate. I timed it and it took 3 minutes to get to the login screen, 30 seconds to log in and another 2 minutes for her desktop to load. Once loaded, the applications take forever to start, lag terribly and some crash automatically (safari, ichat) despite being connected to network. On top of this, I have tried restarting/shutting down the computer but this freezes and will show the "thinking circle" for an infinite amount of time.
I have tried the disk utility, and it fails to verify the disk. I'm not sure what else to try, as I am unfamiliar with macs. I fear though, that she damaged her hard drive when it dropped, although once again I'm not sure.
I have a IMac G4 mod. Power mac4,2 operating system osx version 10.411 processor 800 MHz 768 MB SDRAM. Every now and then my mouse pointer freezers up and I have to unplug the mouse and it starts working again. If it does not unfreeze I have to restart. Then I am back in business. Some times the whole screen goes gray with a black square-telling me to shut down and restart.
my air is rev B with SSD. when i open the lid to wake it up from the sleep, the mouse is freezing for couple of seconds and then back to normal.
it's not tthe whole OS freezing i believe, because ical event suddenly appears on the desktop when the mouse is freezing. so it's not the system i guess.
could it be the lack of voltage because of coolbook? but the system is so stable with these new lower voltages settings i applied a week ago.
Problem: Was surfing on my Mac Mini when the cursor starts acting erratically, when I try to move it, either freezing or it jumps all over the screen. I have tried repairing permissions using disk utility, resetting the 'pram', used clamXav to scan for virus. starting in safe mode to repair permissions. Don't think it is the mouse its self, used it on Macbook and it's fine.
Recently a problem with my macbook pro started (2.33 Ghz, 3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM). Every now and then the mouse and keyboard is freezing for between 15-60 seconds before it kicks up again. It often starts with the fan is increasing. If I am on the internet for example and there are some moving content on the website that still moves so the whole computer doesn't seem to freeze. If I am listening to music through for example spotify the music works a maybe 10 seconds more (probably whats buffered on spotify). Summon it up:
Symptoms: - happens often in the same time as the fan is increasing - mouse and keyboard freezing - moving internet content still moves - spotify works 10 seconds more.
What I have tried: - opened up the macbook and cleaned it from dust - lifted up the mac (if it should be a heating problem) so air can pass underneath - used onyx to fix the mac
Other information: - the temperature on the CPU is around 60 but sometimes up to maximum 90 degrees - I installed last summer a memory so increased the ram from 2 to 3 GB. but it worked without any problems until recently.
Every now and again my Mac Mini will freeze except whatever audio is currently playing will continue to play until end of file is reached (ie, the next track comes on iTunes) and the mouse cursor moves but the rest of the GUI is frozen, not allowing anything to be clicked, no keyboard interaction, and nothing else on the screen gets updated (the clock stays at whatever minute mark the computer froze at). I can SSH into the machine with Terminal on a different computer and poke around but I can't figure out where to take it from there. I've tried looking at processes with top and performing 'kill -9 pid' but I'm never able to bring the machine back without a hard reset.
Through the kill command I've tried quitting the Dock, Finder, any "big" programs I'm running (eg Logic Pro), but none has ever recovered my system.
All I'm trying to do as add a few playlists to my iPad 2...When it's connected through either Wi-Fi or USB, while I'm trying to manage any of my iPads settings, iTunes completely freezes after EVERY mouse-click. Example:I click on my iPad in the iTunes sidebar ..."Spinning Beach-ball" for several seconds.I click on the "Music" tab at the top ..."Spinning Beach-ball" for another minute or two.I check one playlist ..."Spinning Beach-ball" for 5 minutes!!! (...not exaggerating.)I finally click "Sync" or "Apply" ...more "Spinning Beach-ball"!It finally starts to sync ..."Spinning Beach-ball" periodically every few minutes. In the end, the sync cancels itself before it's ever even put the new music on the device!!iTunes completely freezes and I have to force quit!!! As usual, I've tried everything I know how to do, short of witchcraft and bashing things with a large hammer!!! I've restarted both the iPad and computer, completely wiped and restored the iPad (at least twice since this issue arose), reinstalled iTunes, screamed at the top of my lungs, and rebuilt my iTunes library from scratch (which I can't do again for another 90 days, as I have iTunes Match activated). Also, this only seems to happen with my devices using my iTunes library. Using the exact same install of iTunes on the same user, I can open an alternate iTunes library (with a different music collection) and sync my sisters iPad and iPod with no problems. It's as if iTunes literally just hates me (or at least my taste in music)!!! Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3iOS 5.1iTunes 10.6.1
I bought my MBP two years ago (late 08 version) and its been really slow to the point where I just got so frustrated I bought an IMac. But now I'm going to be traveling for a couple of weeks and I need my MBP with me. Is there a way to stop this slowness? It like freezes sometimes when I open a file and safari is just unbearable! Should I reinstall OS?
Ive had my macbook for about 2 months and its seemed to working just fine. However today while listening to music it decided to lock up and freeze for a good minute before it would unlock and continue playing the music through itunes. It did this a few times so I finally decided to restart the computer. The first time I booted it it froze on the apple logo and the loading circle. I killed it and rebooted, it takes about four to five minutes to get to the desktop picture, and another five to pull up the main menu bar. I am going to let it sit over night and see if it gives me any error messages, however; I still haven't seen the dock at all, and ive let it start for about twenty minutes now. It will usually show the top menu bar and then the mouse will give me the sbod while it slowly loads up the top menu bar, and usually the clock is a good few minutes behind.
I have tried a pram zap, draining the power off the board, checking the sata connection, unplugging the power, and I ran a hardware check at start up and it said everything was ok. I am currently typing on my tank of a toshiba laptop that still works after being dropped multiple times and has been heavily used for a good 3 years. The mac has been completely useless is most work situations. Its a refurbished 2.53ghz 4gb ram 9600m 512mb 15" mbp. I am thinking of reformatting it and hoping it works, and then selling it and using the money for a new toshiba or a custom built desktop, because I just cant deal with the amount of money and time I have lost trying to deal with this thing while I could have been getting work done.
After the last software update, Safari has been acting strange. It slowed down enormously (I keep on getting the colored beach ball) and it freezes many times for lots of seconds.
What is the best use/purpose for the Mac Mini? My wife's G4 (Granite) Tower is ancient and slow and freezes up frequently so it's time to get another computer. I have a 5 year old MacBook Pro sitting unused after I bought a 2.13GHz MacBook Air . I am contemplating buying a Mac Mini or an 11 inch AirBook. The Macbook Air would give some flexibility to the household by being portable. She does only basic stuff, nothing fancy, so anything will be better than what she's using now. (At some point in the future, I may give my son the Airbook for college and get a new one for me, but that's not what I want to do now.)So my question to the community would be what do you recommend?
1) Reformat and use the 5 year old MacBook Pro (free)
2) Mac Mini? ($599) (I have an external monitor, keyboard and an external Mac Disk Drive so no need to buy them.)
3) MacBookAir 11 inch ($1100)
4) iMac ($1200) (I think this is overkill for her.)
My safari browser is slow (MacBook Pro 10.6.8). I often have to shut down my computer because it freezes with the spinning color wheel. Sometimes the browser will not be slow when I switch to the chrome browser, but sometimes it is. I may have a logic board problem so I am wondering if that could have anything to do with my slow browser. When I click on Software Update, it shows no software updates (for safari). What could be causing this?
my mid-2010 w/lion is running quite slow and hanging: sometimes freezing. have reset smc and emptied caches. helped for a bit but now even slower. happens with minimal load on cpu and have plenty of memory available.
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I may be using the incorrect terminology, but videos like u-tube, are very slow, to the point of just sitting there, frozen, while it "loads" for a minute or two, then runs for a couple of seconds, then stops to load again, sometimes for several minutes.
I have the small macbook, with SL, 2.4 GHz, 2 GB, 667 MHz. I know this is a standard problem, but there must be something I can do to make it better. I thought maybe the SL would help, but no.
I am having the problem of my iMac freeszing and becoming unresponsive. I can move my mouse curser around the screen, but nothing is responsive. Tried a force quit using the keyboard but that doesn't work either.
I have to power my iMac on then off to restart.
I think it may have something to do when I launch iTunes, and I am using CPU intensive applications? This problem has occured recently when i have been watching YouTube videos, then launched iTunes. Also on another occasion when using Ableton Live, then launched iTunes.
When my iMac reboots after the freeze, and launch iTunes for the first time the "Checking iTunes Library" dialogue box appears and takes a while to load before iTunes launches. My iTunes Library is quite large, 55GB.
Anybody got any trouble shooting advice? I know the console app shows errors but am not very sure what to look for.
My 27" 2010 iMac has recently began freezing and movement on the display is molasses slow. We have 500 gigabytes available and no applications running and the problems still persist.
I have configured my VPN (PPTP)... everything worksI did not checked "send all traffic over VPN connection".Still, when VPN is active, the speed drop is huge. I get timeouts and when lucky the page loads very slow.
I have a slow broadband connection with iMac, My wireless router is connected at 4Mbs but my imac only gets download speeds on usually around 0.5Mbs. My daughters laptop running Windows 7 will connect at about 2 Mbs at the same location as the iMac. Is there any thing I can do to improve the speed ? My imac is a 27" c2d with Snow Leopard & using Safari & connected wireless.
Since the dreaded Yosemite upgrade my mac has ground to more or less a total halt trying to open the internet in any number of browsers (safari and firefox to name but two).
I have been able to run a speed test and says my wifi has my 60+gb download speed and about 6 upload so no issue there.
I am confused to say the least what has gone wrong as my phone and iPad seem to work ok. simple terms if there are any solutions what the problem is as i am really crippled and my business is suffering.
PS Apple i am really not impressed by this totally botched upgrade and when going into a store to see one of the technicians they will only see you if you pay.. this is your fault i might remind you.
When in an opened safari page my mouse is freezing i can move it freely around page but can not click on any item. I can not even go to the quit option to get out of page???
