I had a couple hundred albums loaded on my 1Tb external drive, but when I upgraded to Lion 10.7 it became possible to use the drive as a Time Machine drive, which wiped out all of my music.I've been slowly reloading the music -- it was all from CDs I own so I really didn't lose anything but a lot of time. However, iTunes index shows the old files still there, until you go to try to play the file, when it says "unable to locate file." Once I have an album reloaded, unfortunately both versions are show -- one phantom, and one playable. I haven't been able to figure out how to remove all of the dead pointers to files that no longer exist. It would be slick if there was a way to have iTunes requery my backup disc and only show what actually resides there. Anybody know of a utility to do that???
I just noticed that Spotlight does not seem to index the content of .txt files. It will pick up search strings in the names of text files, but not in the contents. Is there any way to get Spotlight to index the content of .txt files?
I searched around on how to do this in 10.6, but the only things I could find were references to mdimport -f, which from what I understand is now obsolete.
My Mac has my home folder on an internal HD (with the startup disk on internal SSD). How do I get the "locate" command to index (and hence be able to find) all files that are in my user folder (~/) and its subfolders? I want to be able to do this without changing permissions on my user files, of course.
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 3.4GHz Corei7, 16GB, SSD + 2T HD
Whenever I start the Mac, there is always a folder named "recovered files" in the recycle bin...even though the bin was empty before previous shutdown. There is a "wkresources" in the folder. What is this? I really want to see a clear bin when start. Can I do something to change that?
I just got my first Mac which has Snow Leopard. I've been trying to backup files to an HFS+ extended formatted hard drive. This usually fails because there are files that give me an error code of -41. It's random files. I also believe this is affecting why Time Machine can't backup my filesAnyway I can't find a solution to the -41 error code issue.
Finder indicates 4,5 GB stored photos in iPhoto library How come that the pictures do nor show in Iphoto(Only one icon photo per event)What must I do to make iPhoto present my pictures
Had to get my HD replaced in my iMac. Have been trying to get individual files off my Time Machine backup. Â
I go the "Browse other time machine disks" route but when it opens all it ever shows me is a single file with the name of my old HD. It won't display any files inside that volume. Â
I can "Show package contents" on the file itself to get to the files inside but it seems like some files are restored in time machine only.
Specifically the itunes library file gets broken into ,last, add , delete files, which my current iTunes install errors on when trying to import.
Just got from Best Buy where they told me that my 17month computer (logicboard) has to be replace. I;m trying to access my files other than the one shares thru my XP computer but with no luck.
i downloaded a few TV shows in .AVI format, and when I try to play them in quicktime on my iMac it says I need to download the divx codec. these shows play fine in Divx but still wont play in Quicktime. is there any way I can get them to play in quicktime?
I have 2 Ibooks: one has OSX and the other is on the highest version of the old OS9. Something odd happened the other day with a new USB flash drive I started using. I was transfering files (word docs) onto a flash drive. When I inserted the flash drive in the old iBook, each file (and document) showed the date Dec 9, even though the docs were from Dec. 16. When I inserted the flash drive in the newer iBook, it showed the correct dates for each doc. I tried this back and forth, and found the same thing. Yet, all the dates are correct on everything on my hard drive on the old iBook. It only is a problem with this new flash drive I'm using. It never happened before.
I have a MacBook. I changed nothing that I know of. Suddenly when I download files they say they're going to the Download folder but when I open the folder to retrieve (or clean out) old files, there's nothing visible. It appears the file is empty. I have no other option to choose from while downloading. They just automatically go to the folder. Yet the folder's empty.Â
What am I doing wrong? Where are the files? I do NOT have a Download folder in my deck. (Never have.)Â
How do I fix this? (I need to download files from work and many of them don't allow me to "Save" as.Â
I am wanting to organize my movies since I just bought a new Apple TV. I have a lot of movies in iTunes. They are in the Movies section of the iTunes Library. How do I move them to the TV Shows area of the iTunes Library. I am wanting to "clump" them into TV show playlists (i.e. all my Star Treks into "Star Trek")
In the Get info I set all data for TV Shows the same but one I downloaded from iTunes and others were ones I converted. How to I get them to group together.Â
I have been trying to redownload some past TV shows that I purchased over the years but I cannot seem to do it. When I look at my purchases only shows from this year show up. How do I access my whole collection?
I just bought an iMac and a WD My Book Live. The first cause my old laptop when to the great binary cloud in the sky, the second cause I want to be able to consolidate my media. Over the years I have ripped by CDs and DVDs so when the time came I could stream all my media through out my house and devices. Because I will be using the Mac primarily for the forseeable future, I have moved my music and movies into their respective iTunes folders. I have started to move my TV shows. But when you add the folder in iTunes I am still only getting the lovely iStore Advert telling me to start looking. Is it because my store is the Irish iTunes Store? So does anyone have some advice as the best way to store my TV Shows and get them to show in iTunes.
I just purchased a TV show, but when I try to play it, it wont play. It asks me to Authorize my computer, but the thing is, it's already authorized. I tried to de-authorize it and re-authorize it, but it still doesn't work. And it's not just this one episode, I just noticed I cant watch anything I have purchased in the past.
On my iMovie, mov video files doesn't work it shows up as a white screen also on my quicktime. But mpg files works prefectly on my imovie. Can someone help me find a codec or a mov a mpg converter for Mac OS X 10.3.9?
I did do a search on this problem, but i started a new thread b/c I think i may be having a slightly different issue...please hear me out..I have a Macbook, running Mac OS X Tiger (version 10.4.11). I have had a 500 GB external HD (MyBook) hooked up to it (via USB) for the past 4 months or so, never really had any issues, was always able to transfer files, no problem. However, today i suddenly ran into some serious problems. I tried to transfer some pictures to the external drive and after copying 200 or so files it gave me an error, said a specific file could not be transferred (specifically it said "the Finder could not complete the operation because some data in "IMG_3435.JPG" could not be read or written. Error Code - 36 "). At first I thought maybe that specific file was corrupted or something but i checked it out and it looked fine. So I then I tried transferring another folder of pictures, and then I got the same error right away (after transferring 3 files), for a different file. And now i'm at the point where I can't transfer ANY files to my external HD anymore! (T_T). And it's weird, when i transfer folders, it will transfer the folder itself but not the files.
I've downloaded a TV Series to my PC and I want to download it to my iMac but when I go to buy it iTunes says I have bought it and I should check for available downloads but when I do that nothing comes up.
When I rip a TV Series off a DVD then add the episodes to iTunes they go into the Movies section, is there a way I can add them to the TV show section?
Over the weekend, I replaced my 500 gig drive with a new 1 TB drive into my MacBook Pro. I used Time Machine to back everything up and did a restore with it. When I sent to use iTunes after the restore, nothing was listed in there but it did show my custom playlists, but only the names of the lists, no music listed inside. No music also was listed in the Music area. I then readded all my music and now when I go to music, iTunes crashes. But I also notice that it shows at the bottom I have XX,XXX songs taking up XX space. But the music area is still blank. I also notice in Videos, it is blank but shows at the bottom I have 1 video, which is correct and how it was before the restore.
I have a large collection of ripped (TV-on-DVD that i own) mp4s. I want to add these to my iTunes library (space is a non-issue). I import them by adding them to the "automatically add to iTunes" folder. iTunes auto-magically adds them to the "Movies" section. At this point i can group-select, hit cmd-I, and change them to TV Shows. Easy! The only other piece of meta-data I would like to add is the episode number. Is there a quick way to do this? Or do i have to hit cmd-I, add episode #, hit OK button, select next episode, repeat....?
I'am having a difficult time managing TV Show metadata in iTunes. I have over 100 episodes of a single show. I selected all of the episodes and went to "get info" and set the show's name. That was easy enough, but the problem is numbering the episodes in iTunes. I have to go one by one. I guess there is no auto numbering. Is there any easier way?
I'm a first timer so forgive if this has been dicussed already.
Can anyone tell me why some TV shows on iTunes which were previously available in HD, are now only available in SD?
Two examples are Legend of the Seeker and season 5 of Lost (the promo content was previously available in HD). Also when I tried to purchased episode 11 of Fringe in HD and in SD, I recieved a message stating "THE ITEM YOU TRIED TO BUY IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE".
