Mar 23, 2012I'm just now upgrading from 10.6 to 10.7, and I'm having trouble with a script that I wrote that worked fine under 10.6. In part, it executes the following command: osascript -e "tell application "Finder" to set destop picture to POSIX file "<path>"" to change the desktop background image to one of two different files based on other conditions. In 10.7, this command completes with no error code, but it only changes the background of one of my four desktops. Is there a way to programmatically change the background image of all of my desktops simultaneously? Failing that, is there a way to a) find out how many desktops I have and b) loop through them, setting each of their backgrounds in turn? osascript -e "tell application "System Events" to set picture of every desktop to "<path>"" Unfortunately, that also changes only the current desktop's picture. The larger script is in Perl, so I'd prefer a technology that works well with that language, but if I have to change to a different scripting language, that's not the end of the world.

Mar 18, 2010I have a folder with maybe 20 or 30 songs by mobb deep. I want them to be part of an album called "mobb deep", but the majority of these songs are from different albums and mixtapes, and most doesn't even have the album title on them. So on Windows I would simply mark all the files in the folder and right click, hit properties and then I'd be able to type in an album name. First of all when I mark 20 files on Mac and right click it'll open 20 windows instead of one window for all of the files (one of the dumbest things on OSX, I love everything else but this is mad stupid) - second of all I don't even think it's possible to type in the album name when right clicking an mp3 file. So how can I change the album title on all of these files without doing it in iTunes? Reason I aint doing it in iTunes is that it'll be a pain to locate each song in there since they'll be labeled all wrong.

Dec 25, 2010I've a mac mini, with two 24" Cinema Led displays. One display is connected directly to the mac mini (main screen) and one display is connected through a DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort Converter from Athlona (secondary screen). Yesterday I rebooted the machine and since the reboot I cannot change my main screens desktop background. I tried every solution from several fora on the net, but did not succeed to change it. I only have a solid gray colored background. Normally, when you select a wallpaper, it instantly changes the background. Now it doesn't. You can see it change in the "Desktop & Screensaver" menu, but nothing happens in real. Changing the background of the secondary screen is no problem. When I restart the machine, you can see that the solid gray colored background goes away and the original chosen wallpaper appears, but then closes because I restarted the system. On start-up of the system, you can see the original chosen wallpaper again for a few seconds, while the machine starts applications to open at login, and then suddenly changes again into the solid gray colored background.

The only way I can change it is if I select an image from the internet, and right click on it, and select "set as.."

Apr 19, 2012I've enjoyed the gestures on the MacBook Pro with Lion OSX very cool. I've started to swipe left and right with three fingers to switch between desktops, very nice and quick. However, if I forget and "click" to one of the applications that has it's own desktop it changes my desktop order. Can I "fix" or "set" the desktop order? Example: Mail desktop 1, Safari desktop 2, Word Processor desktop 3, Calendar desktop 4, Contacts desktop 5?If I forget to swipe between desktops but instead click in the menu bar the order of the desktops changes. Can I "set" the desktop order so that it does not change?
