I have all my music on my home computer. I now have a new MacBook Air, and I want to be able to share my music library, just like I do with my calendars, contacts, email, etc. I'm using iCloud for all those things, but can't figiure out the iTunes part.Â

Okay so here's my setup:

I would like to set up one ITunes Library so both of my computers can access it. Furthermore I would like to be able connect my IPhone to any of the computers in the house and sync my music, podcasts and applications as normal. Here's what I've tried so far (which worked with my music, but didn't work with podcasts and IPhone application, etc).
1. Copied all the music to my Mac mini.
2. Opened iTunes Preferences and pointed my library to the 'Music' my NAS drive.
3. Went to File > Library > Organise > Consolidate Library.
Now my NAS iTunes library has all my music, but has no library file or XML file in it. Plus if I add ratings to any of my music, the information is not transferred over to my other computer.
why does music skip around & not play in order in library? since latest update is there a shuffle feature & if so how do i turn it off?

Just got an email from Apple saying they cannot help me with this, even if i pay their service charge! Great customer service apple. My library crashed during the fix so i am attempting to rebuild my library from my hard drive and transfer it to itunes all on the one same computer, but its not working.I followed the instructions on Apples website:[URL]But when i got to:

I open the file and it says "some of the songs in the file "itunes Music library.xml were not imported because they could not be found".So, THEN I tried copying all my music files into a folder on the desktop,and then going:
File>Library>Import Playlist>itunes folder (desktop) > Artists
folder>Artist album> individual song>Open
THEN it WILL transfer to itunes library but only ONE SONG AT A TIME and is not letting me "select all" and am having to import my songs one at a time! Seeing as though I have 4,000 songs, this will take me forever!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a very particular issue that I am trying to find the best way to manage through. I have two computers. An iMac connected wirelessly and a Hackintosh connected wired. The Hackintosh is my hometheater PC connected to my TV. My iMac is in the bedroom and is home to all my pictures and music and other stuff we share as a family. After getting my AppleTV2, I converted all my movies and tvshows to Mv4, which are all stored on a separate media server in the closet. The iTunes on the hackintosh "houses" all the video media where I have imported all the video media on the media server but the links are all pointing to the media server - iTunes is not set to copy the media when imported. It allows me to access all of the video media on the appleTV2.
In the ATV2, to access the music and photos, the family has to switch from using the Hackintosh and choose the iMac computer. This is not ideal. The preferable option would be to have one iTunes library to manage all the media so you do not have to back out of one computer into the other. However, I have not found a good way to share just the music portion of my iTunes library from the iMac to the Hackintosh. I do not want the bedroom imac to manage all the media since its not always on and its wireless which creates hiccups on the high def video files. I first tried mounting the iMac iTunes music folder on the network, importing the music into the Hackintosh (creating links back to imac iTunes music folder).
This works but the problem is keeping it up to date after the initial import. I use Hazel and creating a script to basically watch the music folder for newly added or modified files and import those into iTunes. The problem is if I imoprt an updated file that already exists in the Library it creates a duplicate. Same problem if the music is stored on a NAS. I have tried the trick of moving everything to the server and sharing the iTunes ITL files but this does not allow you to have both iTunes libraries open at the same time. I haven't seen anyone who has this particular issue where they want to keep a "portion" of their iTunes libraries in sync.
I currently have a external hard drive on my wireless network and when I point two computers to the itunes library on that hard drive at the same time the second computer says the library is locked or I don't have permission to access the file. If I close the library on the first computer I can access the library just fine on the second.

With Itunes 9, every song I play gets added to the Itunes library, even if I don't want it there. I have Itunes as my default music player on a Windows 7 (64-bit) computer. For example, if in windows explorer, I click on an MP3 file that is not in the Itunes library, Itunes starts up and plays the song (which is fine), but also it adds the song to the itunes library (which I don't want). I don't see any options to change this behavior.

I recently upgraded to iTunes 11.2.2(3) and all of the content has disappeared from my iTunes library aside from what I've purchased from the iTunes store (this seems to be syned to the online store, which would explain it). I can still see all of the song files when I go to username/music/iTunes/Library on my hard drive and it's frustrating because I've tried to link it back to these files several times under iTunes/Preferences and it still won't update the songs in the iTunes application.Â

My computer had barely any space on it, so I was deleting as many things as possible. By accident, I deleted my ITunes library (1898 songs)I didn't delete it from ITunes. I deleted it from applications, then ITunes drop down menu, then all these artists. After that, I emptied my trash. So I have nothing. Now I only have one song on my ITunes, which is the one I was listening to when my songs got deleted. The goal: To have all computers in the house use the same itunes library. Now the new ReadyNAS by NetGear has the option to put all the itunes music on there, and it shows up on the network as a shared library. Is there a way for multiple computers to share the same library on a external hard drive, or in this case, time capsule. I can see where a networked itunes library (like a shared computer) would work just fine for playing music, but you run into problems when say, you want to transfer songs to a ipod, iphone, etc.
One option would be for one of the computers be the main music server, and have that computer be the one to do the music transfers, but what if that computer is off. Multiple computers on same network, sharing same itunes library, but still able to manipulate the files?

I want to use the same Itunes library on two computers. I currently have the "Itunes Music" folder on the external hard drive. This works for one machine, but the library files are still on the internal drive. So, if I go into preferences on a different machine, I can point it to the same folder, but it doesn't have the library files.
I found a cheat method I've used before, I use tweakUI to move the My Music folder to the external drive, for both machines, and Itunes puts everything there.
Is there a way I can do this without cheating?

The concept was that the Air doesn't really have the capability to hold all my music, but I want to use it as a "remote" to select songs through iTunes and play them on my stereo. I want to set up my old Mac Mini as a home server for our Apple Tv2 and my Macbook pro, but I am having difficulty setting up iTunes. All of our music is stored on an external hard drive, attached to the Mini and i have set up an iTunes library on the Mini too. So far so good, and I can access this library on the MacBook as a shared library, and the Apple TV through home sharing.
But, I want to go further and add to and edit the shared library (i.e. the one on the Mini) using iTunes on my MacBook. Am I able to also access the library file stored on the Mini from iTunes on the MacBook pro, so I am using the same library file on two instances of iTunes on two different computers?
Currently when I try (by opening iTunes on the MacBook while holding down option, and 'choosing' the library on the Mini, i get the following error message: The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file

I have song compilation albums in itunes. I prefer to seach by Artist, not album. Compilation albums often assign a different artist for each song. I don't like this, as I end up with thousands of artists, each with only one song! Here's an example:

I can see her library on my mac but she cant see my library on her pc. Did I not do something right here? We're using home sharing. I know you can use iTunes dj to "play song next" or whatever but I don't like iTunes DJ for the fact that you don't have 100% control over what songs are playing if you want to pinpoint certain songs, etc..
