Dec 11, 2009Like most people i have a lot of music and need a decent program to catalogue it all. iTunes seems to be the best candidate though i really cannot stand it's organisation heirarchy.
I already have my music organised into genre folders of my own but some of it has the wrong ID3 data attached to it. I'd love to use iTunes as a tool to sort these tags out but i don't want iTunes to move or copy any of my music (around 230GB) as i can't afford to lose the space.
A big chunk of my music are wavs and all MP3's are 320 bitrate (i play professionally). Has anyone worked out a way to do this?
I also haven't found out a way to tag Wavs, i know that natively wavs dont support ID3 information and someone mentioned a good thing to do is to convert to FLAC which does... but im not sure of an automated way to do this...
I have a saved library file on my macbook pro (where all my music is catalogued and organised fully with iTunes) which i'd love to migrate over to my PC - (being used as a data backup source) so i dont have to sort all these tags out again. Of course i realise this is probably not possible cue to the differeing locations of data between my MBP and PC, but i wonder if there maybe a shortcut to save me from having to edit everything twice?

Jun 12, 2010we all know that iTunes is a worthless turd, but maybe someone can help me figure something out before I get to the point of chucking my brand new MacBook Pro through the window.
When I go to rename a track or artist in this awful, awful software it almost always kicks me out of the renaming process, and since I'm merrily typing long it takes me to the first song in the library that starts with whatever letter I just happened to press.
Example:
I'm typing in "Bob Sinclar". I get through Bob and the space OK, but then as I'm about to his the S it kicks me out of the renaming process, I hit S, and the iTurd takes me to, say the first State of Shock song in my library.
It does this every! damned! time!

Feb 4, 2009So over the past few months I have noticed this small bug/glitch in iTunes... and it is very annoying.
I cannot drag songs from playlists into different order. iTunes just doesn't let me drag at all.
I have to quit iTunes, then restart it. It will work for one time, but as soon as I got back to "Library" and then try to go back and edit a playlist, I have to exit iTunes.
Any fix for this?

Nov 7, 2010I did a bunch of googling, and couldn't find an answer to this or how to do this except with windows-based mp3tag apps.
I have a collection of .WAV files with no tags or filenames at all, but they are all nested in folders that are named with the album the files are from. All the actual .WAV file names are just Track01, Track02, etc. Obviously if I imported these as-is it would be a disorganized disaster.
I am trying to import them into my iTunes library as ALAC lossless-compressed files.
All I would like to do is have the imported files tagged with the folder as the album name.
I can't seem to find any tag editor that will do this on a Mac. I don't want to sit here for hours in iTunes manually entering the album tag for each imported song, that would take ages. Are there any options, or do I brew a pot of coffee...?

Jan 26, 2009Gonna be moving from my old mac onto a shiny new MacBook and while its easy enough to take over the contents of my iTunes and the iTunes Library file over to the new machine to preserve my play lists & play counts, I want to be able to take over the CD track name and information so if I put in a CD I had personally amended the information to, the information is still there as apposed to just connecting to the great music database in the sky and downloading the information like it does when I put in a fresh music CD for the first time. When I copied over the Library file to my new machine and put in a CD that had already been done it went ahead and connected to the database instead so obviously the CD information is not stored there. Anyone have any idea what file I should be looking at to copy over or is this going to be horribly difficult?

ITunes For Mac :: When Importing CDs Track Names No Longer Are Found
Dec 8, 2014When importing CDs track names no longer are found. This is a problem that has just begun. I use iTunes to download audio books to my computer and then move them to my mp3 player. I can enter the name of the CD and the disk number,myself, but on importing the track names are listed as track 01 etc. That means when put the book on my mp3 player I can only load one disk at a time or the first disk is overwritten by the second, etc.
I've never had this problem. The last time I downloaded a CD was August 2014. When I tried to import two weeks ago, all of a sudden the track names were not there.

I thought perhaps that there had been an update during the 3 months I had not been importing, but I don't know how to check on updates. I've queried this site and found that over the years people have had this problem, but I didn't understand their solutions (all were on earlier versions of iTunes).

Dec 1, 2014I've been having lots of trouble getting itune to work smoothly, having lots of error messages. It frequently says things like" iTunes can’t verify the identity of the server “init.itunes.apple.com”." and other variants with different web addresses. Mostly when I'm trying to use the itunes store. And I've bought a CD recently and when I try to load it at search for the track names it makes the error noise, and a window flashes up saying (ironically ) "no error". This same album is on the itunes store to purchase.

Dec 1, 2014iTunes has been unable to find the track names for a number of CD's I've recently tried to import. Some of them are on the iTunes store too. Each time I try it says "No error". Once it said "this user is not authorised for online use" but that stopped when I quit iTunes and restarted. Should I delete the app then reinstall?

Feb 22, 2012I have two Macs, and on one I went through the arduous task of labelling a bunch of CD-R's I made ages ago in Itunes, and now I want to import those discs via different encoding into another computer, but don't want to have to re-enter all that info. When I put the discs into the original machine, the info is still assigned to the disc. I want to migrate that info to the other machine so I won't have to re-enter this stuff. I feel like I found this data at one point ages ago, but now I can't.

Jun 17, 2014I have iTunes 11.2.2, and I've recently made use of iTunes' "disc x of y" feature, instead of entering the disc number in the album title like I used to. I made this change because putting disc numbers in the album-title field makes the two discs appear as two separate albums, with the artwork appearing twice, which I didn't want. The downside of using the "disc x of y" feature, however, is that for double albums where the two discs have unique titles, rather than the default "disc one" and "disc two" -- say, for example, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' album Stadium Arcadium, where the discs are called "Jupiter" and "Mars" -- there is no way to label the disks with their unique titles and still keep them within one album entry. I don't want to put these titles in as a comment or anything like that either. What I'm really wondering is whether it is possible to write a script that would allow me to change where it reads "disc 1" to a unique title, at least within the album section of iTunes.

I am wondering if there is a way to apply the info in itunes to change the original file names. So that I don't have to change them all manually on my hard drive if I want them in some sort of order. Jun 28, 2010I've been trying to submit track names of a compilation CD with multiple artists (all different) to the CDDB database via itunes. However, when I choose "submit CD track names" under Advanced, it asks for a single artists name for the whole compilation. I've tried leaving this field blank but it comes up with the message: "This CD needs an artist name in order to submit this information". I don't want to add an artist name as the tracks are all by different artists. I've tried ticking and un-ticking the Part of a Compilation box (in the window that pops up to send cd track names and in the Get Info window for each track) but the same message appears each time. Is there any solution to this frustrating problem?
Its a commercial CD our company has had made (world music) and one that we will be selling copies of. I'm worried that if I put Various Artists it will change the original artist fields (which we want to keep) to "Various Artists" which isn't what we want.

Apr 9, 2008Trying to sync my master MP3 collection (on a G4 running OSX 10.4.9) with iTunes on my new laptop (running Vista with iTunes 7.6.2.9 on an NTFS formatted HDD).
Copied the music files onto an external HDD, no problems. File names and folder structure preserved as expected.
However, when importing the music files into iTunes on the laptop, every file name longer than 35 characters is truncated to 35 characters. For instance, Rihanna - Umbrella (Jody den Broeder Destruction radio edit) becomes, in the file name, 08 Umbrella (Jody den Broeder Destru.mp3.
iTunes has only started doing this this morning. Exactly the same installation yesterday gave me no problems at all.
