ITunes :: Automatic Changing Of The Album Artist?

Oct 30, 2010

Every once in a while (I think it's when I play the song or something) iTunes will change the Ablum Artists of some songs to artists I know aren't right. For instance, it keeps placing Photograph by Weezer in my Nickelback folder, and even thought the song's Artist is still under Weezer, the album artists keeps automatically changing to Nickelback, and apparently thats what iTunes organizes folders by.

It also has keeps changing some song by From Autumn To Ashes to some band named Bagman.

Yes, I do have "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" checked because I want it to keep it organized, I just don't want it to change my file information.

ITunes :: Sorting Album By Artist / Year

May 6, 2012

I've been having problems sorting _some_ albums. I'll give you a specific example: I rip Simon and Garfunkel's 'The Concert in Central Park' which has 19 tracks. I want them to play in continuous mode, and in order. I show track number in the columns, make sure all the tracks are of the same album and artist and I don't specify and sort options. Now I click on the column header 'Album by Artist/Year' and I see that track 16 is first followed by 18, 19 then 1,2,3, etc.

I'm not sure why 16,18 and 19 are out of order, but they are and I don't know what other field it is using to apply this sort order since I've turned off the sort fields. I should say that I think the sort fields are turned off since I selected all tracks, hit command-I and made sure that the artist and album are the same, then went over to the sorting tab and selected each checkbox and made sure that the field was blank. Clicked on OK, then went into each track one at a time and verified that the general info and sort info were as I specified.

If I change the sort column to be just 'Album' then it sorts correctly - I think that the year is messed up, so I add the year column to the display and see that it is 1982. I click on the year and the sort is just fine. I set it back to 'Album by Artist/Year' and the same bizzare sort shows up. The same mis-sort shows with 'Album by Artist' so I do a check on the artist name (even looking for leading or trailing spaces - nothing). I could probably delete the album and re-rip it, but I would rather find out why the sort is messed up so I can correct this problem.

Applications :: ITunes 10 Removing Album By Artist Column?

Sep 3, 2010

I just downloaded the new itunes 10, and the first thing I noticed was the "album by artist" column under the music library. I don't like it at all. I want to remove it, but I can't! I'm not talking about the "album artist" column. This is totally new with the iTunes 10. When I try to remove it by, it only gives me the option of sort and artwork.

ITunes :: Unknown Album In Cover Flow For Movies With Extras

Feb 4, 2012

I have purchased a number of HD and SD movies that include iTunes Extras.  All but one of the these movies show as Unknown Album in Cover Flow (under the artwork).  The detailed listing in iTunes reflects the correct names.  The correct names show up on my iPad and Apple TV.  I have worked with Apple Support, to include a senior advisor.  We have tried the following at least once and they now tell me they have exhausted all the possible solutions. Confirmed information in Get Info was correct.Changed the information in Get Info.Re-downloaded the movies after deleting the problem movies.  This was done multiple times.Reinstalled Mac OS.Deleted and reinstalled iTunes.

A few observations. When I delete the Extras from iTunes the title under the artwork for the movie in Cover Flow shows the correct title. The one movie that is correct has one artwork poster for the movie and one artwork poster for Extras.  All others have only one artwork poster and appears to share the same artwork poster. The file size represented in iTunes detail listing for the Extras is significantly lower than the file size on my hard drive.  The same can be said for the movies (all movies, not just those with Extras), but not to the same degree.  For example, one Extras in iTunes is 13mb in the detail listing and on the hard drive it is 772mb.  This example and all Extras work correctly.

Applications :: Need To Rename MP3s (Artist / Album)

Aug 25, 2010

I'm not sure why I'm having such a hard time finding an app to do this, because it seems like a common task. I have a bunch of MP3 recordings that are untitled. They will all have the same artist and album name. Rather than import them into iTunes individually and entering the same information over and over again, I'd like to find a program that will allow me to assign an artist and album name (and maybe other info, like genre, etc.) in a batch prior to importing the files into iTunes.

Applications :: How To Tag Folder Names As Album In ITunes?

Nov 7, 2010

I did a bunch of googling, and couldn't find an answer to this or how to do this except with windows-based mp3tag apps.

I have a collection of .WAV files with no tags or filenames at all, but they are all nested in folders that are named with the album the files are from. All the actual .WAV file names are just Track01, Track02, etc. Obviously if I imported these as-is it would be a disorganized disaster.

I am trying to import them into my iTunes library as ALAC lossless-compressed files.

All I would like to do is have the imported files tagged with the folder as the album name.

I can't seem to find any tag editor that will do this on a Mac. I don't want to sit here for hours in iTunes manually entering the album tag for each imported song, that would take ages. Are there any options, or do I brew a pot of coffee...?

ITunes For Mac :: Moved Library From PC To NAS - Duplicated Files In Album Folders

Aug 20, 2014

I recently moved my itunes library from PC to a NAS to use with my new Mac. With the exception of a couple hiccups everything was fine. I then asked iTunes to copy all the music to my ipod and convert the tracks to 256mb (I have re-ripped my cd collection as lossless and chosen the option to replace existing copies of the songs which were lossy).

I have 264GB of music in my iTunes library but when I looked at my NAS just now I saw 540GB of music backed up!! I then looked in one folder and saw every song had been duplicated so songs were named things like "Song.m4a" and "Song1.m4a", but this hasn't happened in every album folder - of course I have way too many to go through them individually.

How I can stop it from continuing and most importantly how to clear all the duplicates from the folders on my NAS so it only holds the 264GB of music that the iTunes library displays.

ITunes :: Embedded Album Artwork Not Displaying In Album List Or Cover Flow

Feb 26, 2012

I keep my large music collection on an external drive connected to an Airport Extreme in my home. I've embedded all my album artwork in the music files, and previously all the album artwork was displaying perfectly in iTunes. After upgrading to iTunes 10.5, however, most of my albums are missing the album art in the album list and Cover Flow. I know that the art is still in the file because it shows up in the "Now Playing" box in the lower left corner of the screen. The only way I have found to get the album art to show up again in the album list and Cover Flow is to go through the following steps:  Control-click the first track of an album for which the cover art is not displaying correctly. From the context menu that appears, select Get Info.Click on the Artwork tab, then click Cancel.

Now the artwork shows up in iTunes in all views. I called Apple Support and asked if there's a faster way to fix the issue with the database. Manually fixing each album for hundreds of albums is no fun. Telling iTunes to Get Album Artwork doesn't work because most of my music was not purchased from iTunes but was ripped from CDs I already own. It's very frustrating because I already spent hours finding and embedding the hi-res album art in my files. I paid extra for Apple products because I expect them to at least avoid corrupting my databases.

ITunes :: Importing Into ITunes -- Copy Files To ITunes Media Folder?

When importing songs into iTunes, the software by default is set to copy the music files to the iTunes media folder and convert them to .m4a format. This, of course, results in having two copies of each song after the import is done. Before I disable this option I'd like to know what you think are the pros and cons of having this option enabled/disabled.

ITunes :: Save My Music After Albumartist And Not Artist

May 23, 2012

I have lots of lossless music, always had it nicely organized. But after looking at my classical music, I dont find my albums always after the composer as I name as the artist as well, so its kind of same organized as pop/rock.. I want the composer to be in focus. If I want to listen to 39 symphony, mozart, I wont search for the conductor, but Mozart.. With classical music, theres lots of artists, conductor, orchestra and I put it under "album artist", but now I found out that my itunes folders are saved under "albumartist" and not "artist". But shouldnt albumartist be the artists playing on the records, and artist be for lets say the band name?? Have I done it all wrong? Shouldnt I save The Cure as artist, and maybe under "albumartist" I can write Robert Smith, Tolhurst and rest of the bandmembers.. But as I found out now, then the folder will be named "Robert Smith, Tolhurst...."

Should I start name all my albums the opposite way, or is there a way to make folders save from artist and not albumartist?
