I recently ran into a big problem where I had to completely erase every ID3 tag in my library to restore aobut 5% of my library (confusing, I know). This was no big deal because my iTunes XML file contained all song information.
Everytime I click a song to play it, my custom iTunes song tags for that song are replaced with the "updated" ID3 tags. I am losing all of my song information each and every time I play a different song in iTunes.
I've already tried deleting all songs in my library and re-importing using my backed-up XML file, but to no avail. The songs are imported with their correct custom tags, but they change when I go to play the song.
Does editing tags in itunes edit the tags of the actual file.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI thought that iTunes was supposed to edit id3 tags no? When editing info in the program it does not affect changes to the files themselves, how should I go about fixing this?Another small itunes related matter is that when plugged in it does not register on my desktop (even though I have the option t do so checked off)
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy are tags now showing up as they were before I re-tagged them in Itunes when I open them in other players e.g. VLC ?I'm sure it wasn't like this before? Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a fix or an explanation as to why?I spend ages getting the tags just how I want them which is great for itunes but when I open them in other softare the old tags (how they were before I used itunes to re-tag them) show up instead of the new ones I wanted.

I have a huge music library, and a lot of the song tags include the song name, artist, and album all in the title of the song. Is there a program to fix this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having is with editing the tags on song files in iTunes. I cannot modify the text fields in the info tab of get info. So i can't change the song titles, artist names, or anything, which is really annoying. I have tried changing the file access from read only to read and write but this didn't help. Could the problem somehow be that I had all of these files on my widows machine and i burnt them off and transfered them over...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have my files on a Windows machine in the next room, connected via Gbit (AirPort Extreme). The iTunes library is on my MacBook Air right here. But when I'm trying to add artwork to my files it isn't saved with the file. Normal tags (name, year etc) work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo like many people I have (had) a very unorganized iTunes folder. I decided it was time to basically put all my files in the same format and add a bunch of the missing information to the files, most notably the artist name. I have always saved my files in the following format: Artist name - song name .mp3. then I would just add the files into itunes and of course it would not add any info into the artist field for those songs. Through windows explorer, I added artist names to all of my files and changed some of the file names but how do I go about updating iTunes to reflect these changes?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen importing songs into iTunes, the software by default is set to copy the music files to the iTunes media folder and convert them to .m4a format. This, of course, results in having two copies of each song after the import is done. Before I disable this option I'd like to know what you think are the pros and cons of having this option enabled/disabled.
View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday I made a copy of my itunes folder to store on my HD. I have until now stored all iphoto, music, vids folders on external drives in case something went wrong with my imac. Lesson learnt it happened to me as my external drive crashed and I lost it all. To solve the prob, I want copies on both external and the imac HD.
Now when I open itunes...everythign has gone. Its as if I have a brand new itunes oporating.( I did have the most up to date version before this all happned) I have redirected the path(in preferences) to the new location and checked it both ways with the old and new copies but now none work.
I also went to a randon song in the folder and tried to play it but it would not even play. It as if the path has gone

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know there's plenty of lyrics widgets out there, but they all search databases for lyrics. Most are terrible, plenty incomplete and of course lacking in my foreign language songs. But that aside, I don't want ones from the 'net. I want a widget to just display the lyrics I've embedded in the MP3 tags via iTunes. One would think that'd be easier than having something fetch and format something from the Internet, yet I've never found a widget that does what I want. All it needs to do is display the lyrics of the current playing song in iTunes, from the file itself. No frills, nothing fancy. Wouldn't even care if it showed the album art or not. I'd make it myself, but I'm not exactly a programmer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have often been amazed by the speed and accuracy of Searching for Files on my MacBookPro.
As powerful as this SEARCH facility is, recently I wanted to search for a file that I knew had a RED tag assigned to it.
I couldnt find how to do that, it sounds so simple, but, as far as I can see, it cannot be done !!!
I would have thought that it should be easy to do, it is quite an important and useful thing to do, to be able to add coloured TAGS to files, so why can't I search for them, by colour ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am wanting to index all my 9000+ pictures in spotlight by adding meta tags. IPhoto can add meta tags, but they don't add it into spotlight, which is a problem if I ever move my pictures to a different program besides Iphoto. So what I am looking for is something that updates meta tags that you type in right into the spotlight info box, without having to open up info for each individual photo. Hell, I don't even know if something like this exists.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have worked hard at creating my businesses webpage with iWeb and now and have a hard time getting it recognized by Google and other search engines. I have an immediate problem and a secondary. First. I am working with Google Webmaster Central and they are trying to verify that I am the owner of the site. I have two options--insert a meta tag on my homepage or upload an HTML file.
After working through the Help menu, I was able to figure out how to add HTML snippets from the media bar. However, when I update the website, and go to the link they ask me to go for, it is not recognized as having it on the page. I think the problem is this: I am putting it on the page, but the directions from google have a very specific area that they want it in the code. So, is there any way of seeing the code so that I can literally copy and paste it in there? I can't seem to figure it out. Second: I want to add meta tags to increase organic search results but have no clue how to with iWeb. How do I add a meta tag? Here is my website: www.newfangledeats.com
I'm wondering why some websites when turned to the "Reader" option in Safari, some html characteristics are missing. One that I noticed was the <hr> tag that creates an horizontal line across an html page. Is that a normal thing for Reader to do? Can it be forced to display that somehow?

So, my problem is very simple. I like organizing my things by tagging them. I like photos. I have a lot of photos that I took in 2 different external drivers. I can't combine those two. I can't put all of my pictures in my laptop. I want to organize those pictures. I want to put an driver in my usb and the app/software just organizes the pictures from that driver, than, when I plug in another driver, I want the pictures from the last driver out and the pictures from the connected driver in.

I currently have my Itunes library on an external hard drive. This hard drive (Maxtor) has been giving me problems. I bought another external hard drive and I want to copy my library onto that. My operating system is Vista. When I hook up the new hard drive can I just do the normal procedure that I used to put the library on the first external hard drive? Is it a totally different procedure?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have my iTunes on my MBP but want to be able to copy it to my Mac Pro. I copied the folder on my local directory/Music/iTunes. It contains many folders such as iTunes Library, iTunes Music Library.xml, etc. I copied that entire folder to my Mac Pro in the same location, local directory/Music/iTunes.
I then opened iTunes. All of my music was there but one issue I have is with Podcasts. I subscribe to many of them but have some set up to only keep one at a time, others to keep all podcasts that I have not listened to, etc. The problem is it just simply downloads all podcasts, not deleting any. It seems some of my preferences aren't being copied. Is there another location that I have to copy some type of prefs from?
