View 4 RepliesiMac and PC in home, both on the same network, will not "home share."
Both computers are authorized.
Both are logged into iTunes using the same login account.
Both have preferences set to share and detect libraries.
Yet neither computer shows ANY recognition of a shared library from the other. Apparently, this is not a rare problem, but I haven't found any solutions for it.
I am not sure if I understand home share correct but I will tell you my problem. I have a iMac with two log ons, me And my wife.Â
I have my iTunes library on home share. When I am logged in, everything shares fine. My iPad, wife's iPhone, my iPhone and apple tv.Â
But when I log off? The library is not visible? Do I need to be permanently logged on for home share to share my library?Â
Also what is the best way for me and my wife to share a music library? Do we synch to a shared folder?Â

iMac, iOS 5.0.1
The home share is still on I want it turned off help

I want to setup a public share to my public folder to window's xp users. When I do this, it seems to share the public folder AND the entire home directory for read/write. It doesn't seem to matter that I haven't shared that folder. This seems like a HUGE security hole to me. What am I doing wrong?

We have iCloud but do not want to put some of our docs on there for concern over security (any informed pushback on that welcome by the way). We also use an iPad and iPhone so if possible good to be able t acces through those platform while relising that Office docs will need to be converted with limitations.

Basically my question is exactly that. I am a new to mac user, and have got a new mac air. Whilst in the store setting up our new mac the people in the shop told us that we could only have 1 icloud account per user, and therefore my wife and i should set up separte user accounts. Great. However, we both want to be able to access all of our photos and our music library. I have been into the sharing folders, but i must be doing somthing wrong, because as my wife turns on iphoto in her user account, she cannot access any of our photos.Â

I just bought a new 15" MBP 3 days ago and got an Airport Extreme to replace my Linksys router. I have 3 Hard drives connected to it and I have no problems accessing the files when I am at home on my personal network but what if I am at school or work and I need those files. Is there some way for me to get to them remotely?

My girlfriend just got a new Macbook and we're trying to share files using AFP. In system preferences, I have (temporarily) allowed "everyone" privileges to read and write to my system, and she still can't access anything. It just says "connection failed" at the top of the window, and it doesn't give any other explanation other than that. If I type in my login credentials, it logs in just fine and I am able to read and write without any problems. In another thread, someone suggested repairing my disk permissions, and I get the following error:
Code:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad" has been modified and will not be repaired. In yet another thread, I was told not to worry about SUID Warnings, but... the warnings to ignore listed in the Apple KB i was directed to did not include this specific warning. I suspect this permissions error has something to do with why she is unable to connect as a "guest" and it's driving me nuts.
My friend wants to send me a very large zip file. 447k mb large. The thing is we are both on the other side of the country (US). What would be the best way to do it? We tried rapidshare but things didn't work out (maybe because it was too big? idk

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn system preferences, I have checked the "smb/windows" sharing option. I have selected all conceivable folders that I'd like to share ” documents, desktop, music, videos, documents. The iMac is visible in the network panel of Windows Explorer in my Win 7 laptop. Still, when I try to access the iMac from the Network panel I am only offered the option of entering the iMac's Public folders, which are empty.
How can I gain access to the files I want to share?

I am running a MAC pro with OSX 5.8 and I'm trying to read/write files that are on a NTFS windows share point. Th eshare point is on an IBM AS400 machine. My problem is this, I can connect to the share point via the "connect to server" apple-K command and I can see the files and folders on the share point.
Recently another windows user has created a folder on the share point with some excel files in it. From my Mac I can't see this folder, it doesn't appear in the finder. I have Parallels 3 (windows XP) installed on the mac as well and when I connect to the same share point I can see and use the new folder.
I'm trying to share a hardrive from my Macpro to my Imac. I have the sharing preferences turned on and have added the volume I want to share to the "shared folder" list. When I try to access it form my Imac I can see my mac pro but when I connect I can't see any folders.
I tried to share a folder from my Mac Pro boot drive and that worked !!!? I don't know why I can't share files from my other hardrives.
By the way I'm using OS 10.5.8 on both computers.
How can I share files between my iBook G4 and my MacPro, wirelessly? I've been searching online for instructions, and haven't found anything yet ... Also did a search using the Help files, but still no luck.
View 17 Replies View RelatedThis proves much harder than I had anticipated. I spent the entire weekend and monday trying to get it to work on my own but now I have to surrender. I have about 20GB of music on my windows 7 box, which I would like to have shared to my new Mac Mini without having them being copied. I turned on File Sharing on my Windows Machine, and use SMB on the Mac to get to the mp3 files, then I can drag the files into Itunes on Mac.
This works okay but I don't know what the limitation is, Itunes freezes when either the library gets too big, or when a single mp3 file exceeds a certain size; I am suspecting it is the stability of the samba protocol. I also tried the Home Sharing feature within Itunes between the PC and Mac, but then I can't seem to be able to sync to Iphone/Ipod from the mac. It has been an extremely frustrating first time experience with a Mac. Please give me some tips on how I can share my music between a PC and a Mac.
i know theres emailing files, and i know theres aim.But is there another way i can share files with a friend?...with privacy of course I have drop box for work and i tried to create another folder and invite my friend to it, but would people from work still be able to view what is in the folder that i only sent a share invite to my friend?
Also is it possible to connect to her macbook maybe using an FTP program like Filezilla? and i can just upload files to her comp and she do the same to mine?
