I have copied my iTunes folder on a NAS hard disk. Now I want to delete it (as it interferes with my sonos music library). However, I get a message that This cannot be done because I have "no permission to assess some of the items".

I have been using Macs for years, but I haven't got into particulars. Anyways, I wanted to know if I delete the contents of the Downloads folder, will it adversely affect the files that are actually stored in there. Meaning, will it delete them from other areas of my computer. I have random powerpoints, pictures, word documents, music, etc. in the downloads folder. It's reaching almost a 1000 files! I noticed that the music is in my iTunes music folder and some of the documents are stored in the documents folder.

When I plug in my storage device (camera, SD card, USB stick, etc.) Image Capture opens and along with the option to select the download folder, all the names of the folders (grayed out) I have used since I first started using the computer appear. These are folders I no longer use, but to get to the actual area or folder that I want to download to, I have to scroll past a couple hunderd previous, grayed out folder names. Once I get to the actual desired folder, I can download to it. But, those annoying, old folder names still appear on the hard drive.

I purchased a mac book air recently for business purposes. i download a lot of files and i like to organize my folders and files. i noticed when i move the files from download folder and then delete it from download folder the file in another folder also gets deleted. what i am trying to say is when i delete my files from download folder it automatically deletes that file everywhere! how can i fix this ?

I set up a guest acc several days ago and now it's disable, but the small file size folder still remains in hd/users. Is it ok to delete this folder?

I recently tried to delete too much and had to reboot from the disk. It put a folder named "Previous Systems" on the HD and its taking up 7.72 GB. I'm back up again and up to date. Everything seems to be working. I know I screwed up before so I'm asking here before I delete too much again.

I originally used migration assistant from a Tiger MBP to this one & read that I may have corrupted Tiger P-Lists transferred over to my Leopard One. I would like to ask, how can I get rid of/delete my current preferences list to see if that fixes the problem - it did with another person who also transferred from Tiger to Leopard with Migration Assistant!
Will I lose anything by deleting the Preferences Folder/Files? I think I read somewhere that OS X automatically replaces them with current versions if that is correct? Ae Preference Lists taken care of too when deleting the folder/files?

I want to know If I can delete items in my downloads folder. I HAVE DONE NOTHING specific to these files. The majority of them are files I opened as email attachments. NO, I haven't moved them or saved them. NO I haven't imported them to itunes. NO they aren't files ending in .dmg. Almost ALL are pdf. On another post regarding this question the chosen answer was, "you can delete from downloads folder without affecting the applications, so you CAN'T delete them without any problems". Should it not have been worded, "YES you CAN delete without any problems"? And it didn't indicate if it included pdf files. ( i believe they were discussing copies of apps or programs in the downloads folder).
I just want to know what will happen to these pdf files. Do I need to move 229 files IF i want to preserve them somewhere on my Mac, or are they already saved elsewhere as a pdf?

I have a question that was sort of touched on in mac forums but never solved for someone else back in 2007. I have been scouring the net to find a remedy to my problem. I have mac os 10.4.11. I have a zipped file (final cut pro) that i am trying to open and when I try to open it i get a "unable to unarchive (error 1 - operation not permitted)" message. I followed the guidelines from the old thread for the other personIi repaired permissions but when I tried to download onyx it told me the the onyx version needs a higher OS (10.5 I beleive) than I have and other efforts to find the onyx for my mac have failed. I have also downloaded x slimmer and Xserve raid driver for people that use final cut pro.

I have been having this problem reoccur for the past couple days, but I don't know what is causing it. Occasionally, when I press the volume keys on my keyboard, it doesn't make the "click" sound (I don't have it set so that it doesn't make noise). I still have this problem when I use my earphones.
I made sure that the audio output in my system preferences is set to "internal speakers", made sure that my OS is up to date and have even tried resetting my computer. Nothing seems to work. And it really happens out of the blue as well -- I would be watching a video or listening to some music with no issue at all, browse around some other pages and come back to see that I can't hear the audio anymore. This doesn't seem to happen while I'm watching the videos though.
Eventually after repeatedly increasing and decreasing the volume (with no sound coming out of my computer) this pops up and does not allow me to change the volume at all even if I press the volume keys on my keyboard:

It deleted one album so far, and I have no way to retrieve this file. My iTunes folder is in my external HD, and I don't back that up regularly.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUnfortunately there is no option to delete all of your playlists at once in the latest iTunes version. I've bought an iMac and had to fill my library with my cd's. When completed there were aprox 300 playlists made.
In the categories "recently added, 90's, classical, music video's, favorites, and 25 most played". Every category has 100 playslists and they all have the same numbers in it.
Now I have to delete them 1 by 1 and it takes 2 minutes before one list is deleted.

Yesterday I used Migration Assistant to recover the contents of a failed MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) from a Time Machine backup to a new MacBook Air (10.7.4). Using the same external disk for backups, I now have a folder for both the old and new machines in
/Volumes/time_machine/Backups.backupdb/

explain how to reconnect time machine to the old machine's backups. Once I've done this and checked that I can access the old backups, can I simply delete the new machine folder to save space?

Okay I must be missing something, but how do you delete Music Videos in iTunes? The delete key seems to have no purpose and there's no delete option in any menu. If this is a stupid question then I apologize, but man, I feel like it should be easier.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a fair bit of music in iTunes, and it has bugged me somewhat that often when I want to delete many files something it's easier to go into a playlist to find them. But when I delete them from there it only removes them from that playlist, not the computer. I guess this makes sense, and I suppose nowadays space isn't often a problem.
In case this isn't clear, what I want to do is go into a playlist, then select songs, then delete those songs from my hard drive.
Can this ONLY be down via the Library? That's the only time I ever find myself clicking on it, is to delete songs. Is there any way at all for me to delete through the play list through an addon, script, etc?
