IMac :: Very Slow Logout Times Of My System?

Apr 2, 2010

Everything is fine and great with my iMac 27 except for the fact that logging out and rebooting takes ages. I've already disconnected all 3rd party USB devices and logout/reboot times are still close to ~3 minutes.

Mac Pro :: Ridiculously Slow Boot Times On New System?

Jun 13, 2010

grey Apple screen on my Mac Pro. If I unplug my external hard drive (MyBook 1TB, formatted HSF, USB) it takes 15 seconds. From the Apple logo it takes another 20-30 seconds to fully load OS X. I really don't want to unplug my external drive every time I restart.

IMac :: Slow Internet Load Times?

Sep 23, 2010

I just upgrades my iMac to snow leopard. I did not see this problem right away but about a few weeks later. My computer is really, really slow when I surf the internet. But it is not slow consistently. Sometimes pages will load immediately and other times it will tell me I can't open the page due to the server not being found? I really don't know where to start looking for a problem.

Could I have a virus?

Could the Airport just be getting old and starting to fail?

Do I have too much info on the computer already and that is effecting something?

Could it be the Snow Leopard?

Could someone hacked into the modem and is jogging the bandwidth? ( I don't have the wifi locked but live in a pretty rural area)

IMac :: System Completely Freezes At Random Times

Feb 4, 2009

The last 2 days my iMac has completely frozen on me at random times. Frozen meaning, no mouse movement, no keyboard activity (caps lock not responding) and no OSX activity whatsoever. Temp at the time 41C, CPU Usage at 21% or smth, Fan speed at around 1200rpm. However, I don't get the infamous kernel panic error. I haven't changed anything hardware wise. I did have a couple of months ago the graphics glitch problem. Last software update was the iWork one. iMac is Aluminum 20' with C2D 2.4 and ATi 2600 Pro.

OS X :: Managed Account - IMac's Won't Logout

Jan 7, 2010

I am getting is that when a student logs into the machine (with a managed account), they come to log out and the apple menu disappears but the dock remains and log out does not happen. I either have to switch off using the button/pulling the plug, or by putting the computer into standby, then switching user to log in as someone else (either standard account or admin) and I am then able to log out/restart/shutdown. The problem never happens when logged in as a standard user or admin...

IMac :: No Shut Down / Restart Or Logout Users

Nov 12, 2010

I often have an issue where my iMac won't shut down, restart or logout users. Basically, when I click Shut Down or Restart, the desktop icons disappear as if the computer's getting ready to shut down (the desktop wallpaper remains) and it just sits there and won't shut down. I have to hold down the power button on the back of the computer in order to get the computer to shut off. This often happens when I try to logout a user. I'd say this happens about 2/3 to 3/4 of my attempts to shut down or logout a user.

IMac :: System Slow After Screensaver Or Sleep

Dec 19, 2009

My new i5 iMac has been really slow after I get out of its screensaver or take it out of sleep. Even if its on the screensaver for a minute, moving the mouse causes it to freeze and try to load the desktop. This takes about a minute before my computer is fully functional again. Also, I don't know if this is just me thinking this or if its actually a problem, but the computer seems a lot slower than my previous, a 24" 3.06Ghz iMac.

Another thing, the fans seem to spin a lot more with this computer. Watching a YouTube or Hulu video makes the fans spin a ton. I've never had that happen with a Mac before. The computer also gets literally too hot to touch. Anybody else have this?

Also, on a (kind of) unrelated note, Windows performance with this is horrible. I've tried Windows 7 and Vista, and both run... adequately. The fans also spin a ton in Vista (what I currently have installed due to there being no 27" drivers for 7 yet).

OS X :: Loads Webpages Slow Or Times Out?

Sep 27, 2010

I have a MacBook Pro with bootcamp and Windows 7 as well as OS X (unsure of version number at this moment, but think its 10.5). On the Windows 7 side, webpages load quickly in both Firefox 3.6.10 and Internet Explorer 8.0 and I rarely have trouble. On the MAC side, webpages are often unbearably slow to load and often do not load at all or time out or stop halfway through loading. This is both occurring in Firefox (latest version) and Safari (latest version).

IMac :: System Running Slow Because Of Blown Capacitors

Aug 20, 2009

I was talking to a friend last night and he was saying him mom had a 4 year old iMac that she had barely used. Her windows computer died and the local computer shop moved everything to the iMac and when the mom complained the iMac was slow the computer shop told her it had blown caps. To me blown caps wouldn't cause it to run slow, lock up and be unreliable I would believe but not slow. Has anyone had a Mac just run slow because of blown capacitors?

IMac :: System Running Incredibly Slow - Reinstalled 10.6

Aug 4, 2010

Recently I started suffering pretty bad from color wheel load time where safari was getting glitchy and taking forever to move. I tried to cold start it to see if a refresh would help. Well it white screened, and wouldnt exit the loading screen. I reset the ram memory with alt ctrl p and r; this did nothing. Eventually I kissed all my music projects and logic pro 9 good bye, and reformatted from the boot disc. When I went to use it, I got out of the white screen, but was ridiculously slow.

Thinking maybe I didn't do the partition right, I reformatted again, erased the entire drive, set the partition, and loaded 10.6. Any time I open safari, it gets glitchy, and incredibly slow to the point I cant even restart. I cleared the memory again and this still did nothing. I purchased and installed new ram; still nothing. Coming from windows a reformat usually takes care of things. I have no idea what I can do at this point. Its a 2007 24" 2.4 ghz 2gb RAM.

My iMac has been running very very slowly for about 2 weeks. I am talking very very slowly. It seems to be processing time. Sometimes I have to wait a minute after I click on something for the cursor to catch up, and (hate to say it) even 2 minutes. That's like a millennium in Mac time.

IMac :: System Freezes And Running Very Slow With Snow Leopard

Mar 25, 2010

I have a 20" iMac mid 2007 2.4Ghz, 320GB, 2Gb machine running Snow Leopard. Today I turned it on and it was running fine. But around three hours of using it suddenly froze. I had to force the turn off using the power button. When i turned it back on it took about 4 mins to get to the login screen. Once I logged in the spinning wheel came up and the only think that loaded was the Spotlight sign. This kept happening until about the third time of turning it off and on. When it finally completed login. But it is now extremely slow and it just about freezes when I open more than one application.

OS X :: System Crashing Several Times A Day / Mouse And Keyboard Have No Effect

Sep 4, 2009

Installed 10.6.5 a few days after it came out. I have an IMAC white version 4 years old. It now crashes several times a day. Symptoms are screen is locked and mouse and keyboard have no effect. Dont have any obscure software. In fact the problem has occurred when all I have open are a couple of Safari windows. It requires a restart which is pretty annoying as it tends to happen in the middle of doing something important like online bookings.

Earlier versions of this OS had many similar USB problems that were fixed in 10.6.4 (tho Apple never
mentioned them). Seems like the same problems have crept back in.

IMac :: Hardware - Beeping Nine Times ?

Nov 28, 2010

The mac in question is a late 2009 27" iMac 2.8Ghz i7, with the stock HD, and graphics options. With 2x 2GB sticks of Apple RAM, and a further 2x 2GB sticks of Kingston RAM. The machine was purchased in March, and has worked flawlessly until 10.6.5

The machine is still in Warrenty, I can take it in if I need to.. but here in Holland that usually means it has to stay in shop for over a week. The closest place to our residence is a long distance and.. yeah, it's just not easy, it really is a last resort.

When we updated it to 10.6.5, it required a restart. Upon restarting it beeped for a number of minutes before it started restarting itself and beeping numerous times before it loaded the operating system. This was two weeks ago.

Since then, when she has tried to boot it it has either:
A) Beeped 9 times, 3 short - 3 long - 3 short;
B) Booted normally without issue.

When "A" happened, she's been turning it off and waiting for a few minutes before trying again. If it did not load first time - after a few attempts, it always booted.

Yesterday I finally had some time to take a look at the problem, and discovered that 9 beeps means there is a hardware issue. Most likely a RAM issue.

I checked the "About this mac" and "more info.." area's of her computer and saw nothing unusual. The machine recognised every part including all 8GBs of RAM.

I looked into information regarding faulty firmware and found nothing solid - so I left it alone.

Today we found that the machine does not boot up at all. Waiting any length of time and trying to boot the machine up again does not result in a successful boot.

I then took the following steps - and got the following results:

-I removed all 3rd party RAM, and booted - received the same 9 beeps.
-Moved the stock Apple RAM into the upper slots - received a single long beep repeatedly. (No RAM detected?)
-Replaced the Apple RAM in the lower slots (where it has always been) - received the same 9 beeps..

IMac :: Backing Up External HDD - Crashed Three Times

Nov 12, 2010

I had a HDD fail. I backed up as much as I could save onto an older 500 gig drive, 365 gig in total. I then bought a bunch of 2 TB drives to make proper backups so I don't loose stuff in future. Anyway I have tried to copy the 365 gig from the older 500 gig drive over to the new 2TB drive. On my Mac pro it crashed three times after getting through about 50 gig. I have just tried connecting both drives to my imac and instead of copying all 365 gig in one go I tried one folder, it is 50 gig.

I have just come home and it says "copying 35.5 gig of 50 gig, about 30 minutes to go, it has crashed. It seems I can't easily back up my drives? They are both formatted as Mac Extended Journaled. I have googled and can't find any reference to this problem. I have checked to make sure my drives don;t go to sleep after 10 minutes and they don't. The files aren't corrupt btw. I have had issues in the past backing up mac drives for some strange reason.

I have a 20inch early 2009 iMac running OS X 10.9.4.

I have been having crippling WiFi problems were I am forced to reload webpages 20-30 times before the page loads fully. I have tried many things and even upgraded the RAM to 8gb, and I still have the same problem. I have also tried resseting the WiFi, router, and iMac and it seems my problem is more complicated than that. I have run a test too and I had no lost packets. The strange thing is after a webpage not loading, if I refresh the page 20-30 times it finally loads!
