MacBook Pro :: How To Configure Dual SSD Optibay Setups?
Apr 28, 2010What are you guys using them for? I'm thinking strongly about going this route and using one for streaming my multi-sample library and audio files into Logic Pro and as an interim quick-bounce-while-composing drive before I dump the project file to an external drive.
Anybody using the Intel X-25M G2 (160GB, currently using for apps, OS,m and a most-used samples) with an OCZ Vertex 120GB? That would be more than enough internal storage for me as I make use of my external HDD via ExpressCard->eSATA all the time.

OS X :: Configure Router To Give Each Imac Separate IP?
Oct 13, 2010My business uses a payment processor, and we have two iMacs hooked up to a router. Since both computers use the same gateway (same external IP address that the internet sees), the payment processor can only process payments from one iMac at a time. Both iMacs cannot run an order at the same time. My question is this: Is there a way to configure the router to give each iMac a separate IP address that the internet sees, so that they can both process orders with the payment processor at the same time? If this is a bit confusing, I will try to clarify more.

Nov 24, 2006So I bought this 600mhz iMac G3 for a friend. It has a CD-RW, but not a DVD drive, so I installed Tiger by putting the iMac into Firewire Target Disk Mode and installing Tiger via my PowerBook G4.
It works and boots, but somehow I get the feeling that there is something wrong with video acceleration. I mean, even though its an iMac G3, it has a 16mb Rage 128 Ultra AGP... it should be able to play 320 x 240 Sorenson movies full screen just fine. It also should do iTunes visualizers with "faster but rougher display" enabled just fine (remember those iTunes visualizer commercials from when the iMac G3 was still current?).

Jun 16, 2007I can't seem to find the option under System Preferences/Sharing/Internet that allows me to set my Aiport Extreme in my iMac for WPA/WPA2 security for internet sharing. Am I missing an update? Software update check shows all software current. Is there a download I'm missing?

I don't have the Missing Manual for Mavericks yet. So I often look up topics in the MM for Lion. He mentions something on page 510 about "closing the backdoor" so hackers can't 'Ping" an idle or sleeping computer. The Security Preferences in Mavericks don't seem to address this. Has the new OS got built-in security for this. Wiping an HD clean, installing fresh OS and then restoring preferences from a TImeMachine backup.

Office (MB screen + 22" TFT)
Living Room (MB screen + TV)
So the thing is, is there a way I can make OSX know what configuration i'm using automatically? Let's say, based on the number and resolution of the screens?

PowerPC :: Finding Multi Monitor Setups G5
Sep 5, 2010've been a PC person since forever but more and more I've come in need of a mac, mainly for editing and the use of Final Cut Pro and After Effects. My PC has served me well but was slowing and so when I saw a cheap G5 for sale I snapped it up. Now I'm aware it's the older PowerPC style and it doesn't support the latest and greatest apps but FCP 6 will do me fine. However I have some hardware setup questions I can't seem to find a simple answer to anywhere so I turn to you for.
My G5 came with a rather nice 23' HD Cinema display that I'm currently using, however in my old PC setup I used 3 monitors, 2 identical ones and a TV via DVI-HDMI so I could edit over the two windows and monitor my work on the telly.

Aug 30, 2010I've been Promac based for years and now run a Macbook Pro for mobility around the office and house.I'm getting flustered running 2 systems in tandem along with 1 wife and 3 kids! Currently before I leave the desktop I put a copy of my current work on my TimeCapsule then pull it down to the laptop, work then visa versa. I would like my work folders, photos, and music to be on both machines. I see programs like Drop Box and Chronosyc, the language on the Chrnosync website make is appear fairly complicated, can I ask if anyone might spare a moment to cover their expieriences of them or any other setups?

Feb 27, 2009I'm running Mac OS 10.5.6. When I plug in the external monitor to my MacBook Pro, I setup Firefox and Entourage on my notebook monitor and Photoshop on the external. I also move the Apple menu bar to the external (since PS is my main app I like having the menu bar close by). Photoshop doesn't present a problem because I'm able to switch the layout for different workspaces (laptop alone or laptop and external), but I find that Firefox and Entourage don't remember their positions.
For example, my current setup is dual monitors as mentioned above. When I get home and power up the notebook, I'll launch all the same apps. Firefox is just barely within view hanging off the left side of the screen so I'll grab the window and drag it over so I can access the green button (not sure what this is called). Entourage displays just fine. When I get back to work the next day and plug in the external, Firefox displays on the external with the window sized to fit the notebook monitor) and I'll just drag it over. Entourage loads into the external as maximized and I'll drag it over and click the green button.

OS X :: How Do I Configure IP Addresses?
Dec 12, 2010I'm running Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista using Parallels on my MacBook. I'm supposed to assign IP addresses to both (this is a static IP address, if I'm not mistaken), as well as preferred DNS server and alternate DNS server. I know how to get to the IPv4 and IPv6 configuration areas in Local Area Connection Properties, but I have no idea what the difference is between the two. Furthermore, when I go to IPv4 or IPv6 Properties, I click on, "Use the following IP address, " but I have no idea what IP address to use. Is it the IP address of the MacBook, or do I simply choose a brand new IP address for both machines? Plus, how do I figure out the preferred DNS and alternate DNS servers? I know how to do ipconfig /all and all that, but in therm of assigning a brand new address/DNS server, I don't know what to do.
Another thing, whenever I try to configure a new IP address, it tells me it's an Unidentified Network. Should I be worried about this?
Finally, I'm definitely concerned about messing with the IP address of my MacBook. Although I won't give out my IP address verbatim, the IP address for the MacBook is similar to 24.158.240.88, and I tried altering it manually and couldn't connect to the internet anymore. Should I do anything with that IP address? Or should I only concern myself with the IP address of my Server 2008 and Vista machines? I've heard that the IP can be in the range of my router, what does that mean? How do I find out my router's IP? Is it the same as the IP for my MacBook? Am I way off here?
Mac Pro :: How To Configure Backup?
Sep 21, 2010I have previously sort of asked about this within someone else's thread, so apologies to anyone who may have already seen a convoluted version of the below.
Basically, I am about to buy a 2010 Mac Pro 6 core. Due to many of the MacRumors posters, I have been advised to buy my drives and RAM from OWC, which I shall do. I am now trying to figure out just what I should buy, and how I would then set up for backup.
So first, I will tell you what I already have on hand... I'm running a G5 with the internal 230gb drive (holds system, apps, photos, iTunes), an external 512gb LaCie (holds all my work) and and external 2TB LaCie that used only to back up the other two, using Retrospect. (it is partitioned in half and one half is just about full. Truth be told, I don't really understand the backup process and it was set up by someone else.)
I am a graphic designer and keep needing more space to store and back up work.
So I am planning for sure to buy an SSD - 200gb OWC Mercury Pro RE
Then the MP will come with the 1TB drive.
Should I get another internal 1TB or 2TB drive from OWC, even if I have the external now?
Once I know what I should get, I then am confused about how it all gets backed up. I've always heard the backup drive needs to be MUCH larger than the sum of the drives it is backing up. Is that true? If so, do I need 1 drive that is bigger than 2TB for everything to go on, or can it be split up?

Feb 18, 2008After 2 days of playing around with the new apple keyboard and mighty mouse, I thought, that's enough, and connected my logitech keyboard + mouse.
The keyboard is a big improvement, it has both windows and apple keys on it, and has a lot of extra features, like for example being able to press the 'print screen'. Even the mouse seems to work better, could ajust to the right clicking of the mighty mouse, sometimes it works, sometimes it didn't.
One think I'm still looking for is how to disable the display of widgets when you press the mouse wheel. I tried steermouse, it lets me configure the mouse wheel click as third button, but that doesn't change anything, I tried to run LCC (Logitech Control Center?) but it only showed me my keyboard.
I know how to change the keyboard shortcuts, but can't find the mouse shortcuts?...

The two PCs I also installed the Remote Disc software on are...
Dell Dimension PC running Windows XP Home SP3, connects via Ethernet.
HP Pavilion dv7 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, connects via wireless.
The eMac is on the same connection as both PCs are. I can access files from the Dell, but have issues accessing the HP.
Now anyways, I did the whole kit and caboodle install for the Mac and PCs. I checked off the "Allow DVD or CD sharing" on all three computers. I even tried the Terminal commands. can fix it?

I have a valid externally trusted cert, changed the host name to the external name etc. The router is forwarding fine but for my life I cannot find the UI piece where I can tell all the web pages to accept SSL requests.I created a Website in the Web Pane and pointed it at 443 and that works fine so I know the router talks to the right box
