IMac :: Overclock Quad Core - Making Geekbench Think?

Dec 8, 2009

I was looking on GeekBench and noticed there are quite a few quad core iMac that are running faster than the 2.66GHz of the i5 and the 2.8GHz of the i7. I can't make sense if people really are trying to overclock or just somehow are making Geekbench think they have a faster CPU/are editing their scores somehow. How in the world could one overclock the iMac when cooling is a serious concern?

Mac Pro :: How To Bookmark Using Geekbench

Mar 11, 2009

When using geekbench, will you get an accurate score from the 32-bit system, or would you need to use a 64-bit system in order to see what your true score is? I only ask because I don't mind spending $20... but I'd rather spend that one something that I will use more than one time.

Currently my 2008 2.8 oct core mac pro with 16 gb's of ram is getting me an average of about 9250.

OS X :: Geekbench SL Versus Windows 7

Oct 7, 2009

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM via BootCamp on my Unibody Macbook.

Specs:

2.0 Core 2
4GB DDR3

The 64-bit kernel was used for both the 32 and the 64-bit SL tests.

The 64-bit version of Geekbench for Mac is a slightly older version (2.1.2 vs 2.1.4) not sure if that makes a difference.

The Difference between Win7 x64 and SL x64 was very small. What I found interesting was the large difference between the 32-bit tests.

OS X :: Difference Between Restoring And Migration For New IMac

Dec 21, 2009

I ask this question as a new Apple user with a pretty rocky start. I'm on my second defective iMac (yellow tint, stuck pixel, smell, etc). Because of 2 defective iMacs in a row and another replacement in the near future, I now need to learn about how to transfer settings/data from one Apple to another most efficiently--if at all. I previously understood it would be best to simply not use Migration Assistant on a new iMac, even though as a new Apple user I really have little data history to transfer over. So with my next replacement, and hopefully the last, I would start from scratch with new application installs, OS settings, documents, etc. The logic as explained to me is that migrating would transfer over files I would not want on the new iMac. However, when I spoke to Applecare over the phone tonight, I was told that while I could Migrate, I should instead Restore all my settings/data from a Time Machine backup from this defective iMac to the new one. As I understand it from how he explained it: with Migration you will simply transfer your old data/settings on top of what exists on the new iMac, but with a Restore the new iMac will wipe out whatever is on it (is there anything to wipe out on a new iMac?) and then transfer your old data/settings. Is my understanding of those 2 terms, Migration and Restore, correct? And is Restoring the preferable thing to do in that it doesn't (or shouldn't?) bring over any unnecessary files into the new iMac and saves a great deal of time or should I still start completely from scratch?

OS X :: Difference Between Mac And PC?

Aug 17, 2006

I am one of the many folks who use a PC and have been considering a Mac. I have read many posts on the subject of Macs vs PCs, that the Mac OS is more stable, doesn't get infected with viruses or spyware (I would assume virus/spyware writers go for the biggest target, Windows), and is ''easier'' to use.

Can someone please explain in plain english how a Mac is easier to use? I assume there are similarities like the use of file architecture and ''windows'', but why is Mac's way of running say Photoshop Elements better? Why, specifically, is the Mac OS better than Windows if you take out the virus/spyware issue? BTW, maybe I'm lucky, but in the 3 months I've been running XP, I haven't had a single crash, blue screen, or virus. Of course I'm knocking on wood!

OS X :: Mac HD Vs PC HD (Any Difference)

Feb 9, 2009

I have a 12.1" ibook G4 [A1054] with a broken 2.5" IDE hard drive. I have an old IDE hard drive that was in a Gateway laptop. Is there any reason that I would not be able to install this drive in the ibook? Is there anything fundamentally different between hard drives in macs and hard drives in windows based machines?

The hard drive that was in the ibook is a 30GB and the Gateway one is a 60GB. I'm not sure if that would matter either.

If compatibility is not an issue, am I going to have any problems formatting the old Gateway HD or installing software on it?

Also, can anyone recommend a site that would be a good place to buy a 2.5" IDE hard drive in case I want to use a different one?
