ITunes For Mac :: WD MyCloud NAS As Library Location

Jun 4, 2014

I bought a WD 3TB MyCloud NAS and transferred my iTunes Library to it.

I changed the iTunes library location in all 3 Macs to the WD MyCloud and it works fine, but next time I launch iTunes it forgets the library location and starts downloading any available podcasts to the local drive.

Worse, when I enter preferences to change the library again to the NAS drive, iTunes is unusable while it first finds the tracks on the NAS drive and then organizes them. Thus I can't even play music for ten minutes. Once done, everything, including video, loads fine.

All machines are running Mavericks.

OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)

Applications :: ITunes Library Changing Location By Itself?

Oct 30, 2009

I have a strange problem at least to me. Recently I moved my iTunes library to an external drive and all went fine. I used the consolidation tool to achieve the task and all went just fine. Since doing this every time I open iTunes the location of the library has changed back to my local drive.

For example...

I set it to: volumesmediaiTunes Media

and it is automatically changed to: usersmemusiciTunesiTunes Media

ITunes For Mac :: Doesn't Read Storage Location Of Library

Jun 21, 2014

My old iMac had OSX 10.5.xx and iTunes 9.xx installed and the iTunes library was stored on an external HD. I have run iTunes that way for many years and had to upgraded the HD a couple of times to the point I now have a 4TB drive for my iTunes library.

I have now bought a new iMac that has OSX 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2.2 installed on it. I changed the default library location under iTunes preferences but it tunes does not read the files and keeps on wanting me to file my files from the Cloud.

Looks like in syncing my iPad, it tries to place the backup of my device in MobileSyncBackup on my C boot drive, which is an SSD without space, even when my iTunes install and iTunes library folder is in my 2 TB D drive.

Is there any way to permanently make iTunes place its backup elsewhere?

ITunes :: Songs Don't And Won't Appear In Library

Apr 16, 2012

I'm having problems with songs I've loaded into iTunes not appearing in my library, even though they're on the hard drive, and properly filed in the iTunes folder.

I ripped all of my Beatles CDs a couple years ago, and now that I'm looking at them again, certain tracks are missing when I search under album, title, or artist.

Strangely enough, they ARE on the hard-drive, properly organized in the iTunes folder.

Even more strangely, when I try to drag the file into iTunes again, it STILL won't appear, though it WILL play.  However, even when it plays, the library still does not show that the song exists. Do I now have to somehow rebuild the library?  It seems like that's what's called for.

Applications :: ITunes And Remote Music Library - Reselect File Location

Mar 13, 2009

I've got to a point where the HD on my MacBook is just too small to hold my music library, so for a while now, I've been housing it on an external drive hooked up to an Airport Express. My setup certainly isn't without its fair share of problems.
Setup: I keep my own folder structure, with folders for specific categories and playlists. iTunes's music folder structure has never been organized enough for me, so I don't use it. Another reason is I have music in my library that isn't in iTunes (since I don't frequently use it). My music library resides on an AirDisk, while my iTunes database along with some local music folders resides on my Mac.

Problems: Whenever I move songs/albums/playlists from the local storage on my Mac to my remote library, I have to go through and reselect the file location on the AirDisk for every file. I've also noticed that files on my AirDisk typically appear with an exclamation next to them, won't sync to my iPhone, and won't play in things like iTunes DJ unless I manually mount the AirDisk. Even then, iTunes only sees the specific song I clicked. iTunes still thinks other songs on the AirDisk are unavailable (even though the AirDisk is mounted), and thus skips them when playing unless I specifically click a song. Finally, whenever I move my music library around (like putting it on a NAS), I have to go through and manually change the location of each and every song!

All of these problems makes me think there has to be a better way! I've read about using iTunes to relocate the iTunes music library or database to a different disk, using the "Consolidate Library" feature and other built-in features, but it doesn't seem like any of these would work with a custom folder structure. I also know there are various 3rd-party "helper" apps available, but I haven't looked into them. Perhaps a 3rd-party app could simplify the process?

ITunes For Mac :: Move Location Of Library Music Files From Time Machine

Jun 23, 2014

I want to move the location of my iTunes library music files. At present they are all on my time machine . I want to move them all to my imac. Can I do that and keep all my playlists and play counts?

its 1000s of songs . Originally I used the time machine as a networked drive but it can cause the songs to pause so I'm thinking it would be better to have the songs on the internal imac drive

how can I move the songs so I can re-open iTunes and the playlists (with plays in the 100s) find the song in the new place?

ITunes For Mac :: Get New MBP To Recognize Old Library?

Jun 21, 2014

My 2008 iMac hard drive (2TB) went belly up for good. I have always added new OSX versions as they came along, right up to and including Mavericks. I had all my iTunes (over 1 TB) on this hard drive. No panic as I also have a daily SuperDuper back up of the entire iMac hard drive on a WD 2TB external HD (SuperDuper Clone OLD). I decide to replace the iMac with a brand new MacBook Pro Retina (256 GB, so obviously no room for iTunes Library), and a new WD 4TB external HD for the iTunes Library.

Wanting to do a fresh install on this new MacBook, unlike the 2008 iMac which had one install going right over the previous OSX. Now, I move the entire iTunes file from my old SuperDuper back up (SuperDuper CLONE OLD) over to the new WD 4TB external hard drive (iTunes NEW), drag and drop, nine hours later it has fully transferred.

I now fire up iTunes on the MBP, in the Advanced Pref I point the iTunes Media folder location to the new external HD:  /Volumes/iTune New/iTunes. I then shut down iTunes and restart it while holding down the ALT/OPTION key, pointing it to  iTunes Library.itl.

Yet this new iTunes Library on my 4TB WD external hard drive (iTunes NEW) does not show up with music. What does show up are a 3535 old PodCasts.

ITunes For Mac :: Transfer Huge Library Of Non-iTunes Songs To PC?

Jun 1, 2014

I have a Macbook with about 5,000 songs on it, all of which are burned from actual hard copies of CDs that I own. Rather than re-burning each CD to my new Windows computer, I would like to see if there's a way to transfer all these songs from Mac to PC using an external hard drive.

The real question is how can I format my external hard drive to be recognized on both a Macbook running Snow Leopard and a PC running Windows 7?

Software :: ITunes Won't Add All Songs To The Library?

Aug 9, 2009

I have an iPhone and 8000 songs in mp3 files. I had the iPhone perfectly syncronized with iTunes in a Windows XP PC but i decided to buy both a new PC and a Macbook, so i saved ALL the 8000 song in several DVDs to backup them.

Unfortunately I had to re-syncronize my iPhone with the new computer (this time i used the mac with Leopard, iTunes 8).

First I copied the music (all the 8000 songs) to the HD on my Macbook. Then I opened iTunes and added the whole directory but ONLY 5000 SONGS WERE ADDED! I tried to manually drag the songs missing...but iTunes doesn't add them either.

I believed this was a problem with the Mac, so I sincronized my iPhone with the PC (Windows Vista, itunes 8.0) and when I tried to add the same songs (previously copied to the HD) ITUNES ADDED JUST 5000 SONGS AGAIN!

Then I tought that the problem were the mp3 files (bad burned) so i tried adding them to Windows Media Player and MusikCube, and all the 8000 songs were added without a problem!!

ITunes :: New Library Created New Music Subfolder And Imported Files Will Not Go Into New Designated Location?

Apr 13, 2012

I'm using iTunes 10.6 and Lion. i have a two problems. i recently moved my iTunes library to my portable hard drive. i have changed the new location under Preference/Advanced to "/portable drive/MUSIC". I have checked 'Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and unchecked 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library. 1) After moving my music and and consolidating, some of my music are in the right  folder, which is in "/portable drive/MUSIC" folder, but a majority of the music are created into a NEW SUBFOLDER music folder. e.g.: /portable drive/MUSIC/music/  ?? Why is that happen and how can I move tell iTunes to just put it in the main and 1st MUSIC folder. Do you know why it creates a subfolder name music? 2) When importing new music, it doesn't automatically go into the designated folder but instead retains in the original folder that was imported from? e.g.: i import music from mac hard drive  into iTunes and when I click on Get Info on the track, the location is still at /my mac hard drive/duran duran instead of /portable drive/MUSIC/.   How do I get it to organized the music into /portable drive/MUSIC/

ITunes :: Moving Library To External Hard Drive & Finding Media Location

Apr 27, 2012

I've followed several tutorials on how to get this done, as it seems so simple but it's not working on my end. I've moved the iTunes folder from the /music/ to an external hard drive. I'm opening iTunes, going to Preferences, Advanced, and replacing the iTunes Media folder location to the correct one /Volumes/Volume E/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media

I'm checking Keep iTunes Media folder organized & Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library, clicking on the "OK" button, and nothing happens.

Funny enough, Spotify finds it in seconds and I can play my music from that player instead.
