Been using my imac lately and I've noticed a drop in wi-fi signal. I checked iStat and it said that the airport card's temp was 62?CIs the high temperature linked to the loss in signal?
View 1 RepliesI just recently bought an imac computer and my two friends who know a lot about apple computers thought that the fans and temperature might be a little high. The cpu fan at idle runs at just under 1200 rpm's, the harddrive fan runs at 1100 rpm's and the optical drive fan runs at 1000 rpm's. The temperature itself 40-44C. The other imac that they know of is a year old, so we weren't sure if there were newer upgrades that might be making the difference between our speeds and temperature compared to that one.

If I change input to TV or power off the display, when I power back up or switch back to hdmi input screen displays error, can't read signal check output device. I have read on this forum about a issue similar with ATV but not with MacPro. In my google searches I read some issues with Vista, but no resolution... thought to be a ATI driver problem. Does anyone know of a tweak to fix the ATI 2600 XT to remember the tv signal after you change inputs or power off the display?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a March 2009 Mac Mini that was working fine under Leopard when sending out a signal from mini display port to hdmi and then to a Samsung HDTV. Now when I upgraded I get more options for monitoring HD signals but my TV signal drops out intermittently. I suspect this is a bug with Snow Leopard and HDMI. Anyone have any inklings on how to solve this issue?

It's now too hot to put on my lap and even sitting on a desk it doesnt get any better, and I am only running Chrome and iChat. Here are the Temp Monitor and iStat Pro sceenshots: I feel like it's been getting progressively hotter over the last few weeks, but what do I know. Also, why are the fans at 4500 rpms when Im only running chrome and iChat?

Systematic Endpoint antivius protection installed on my computer. Recently I have been seeing high CPU temps - around 70/75 and fan exhausts around 4500. I have been researching on other forums and I have seen that it could be the virus protection that is causing this. Now I know that I don't really need the virus protection because well, I have a mac. So I was wondering how can I successfully uninstall the protection. And if anybody on here disagrees with it being the virus protection, then what do you think it could be? Right now I am only running Firefox for surfing and Itunes.

I have been running Parallels windows 7 + photoshop CS5 + MS word at the same time by bouncing from one to the other on MTN Lion, My machine was running at about 115-120F and an average speed of 1998 rpm-2200 rpm. I have just upped to Mavericks and running same programs My temperature zoomed up to 215F and my speed to 3800 rpm.

(In this screenshot the Fans speed was about 2600rpm although under 90? they drop to 2000rpm)The laptop itself is not hot though, it's warm. (And I like it <3)

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro is almost always in my room. The problem is that at night my room gets the coldest (around high 50's to 60's). I don't have a case yet, as school has not started. Is this particularly bad form my MBP if I, take my MBP out of my room and move it to family room to use it. (the family room is around 70's in the morning)
I have heard of internal condensation, but would this be a problem in my case. I guess at night the temp is high 50's than by morning (b/c of the sun) the temp rises slowly to about high 60's, than I move it to family room, mid 70's? Its not below freezing at my house (I live in Southern Cal.), but again wondering if this is right.
Those of you with the ATi 4850 card, is there any who have completed a reinstall and then still suffered with the freezing problem afterwards.
If so I am going to get back on to Applecare and demand a replacement.
I have my iMac 21.5" linked up to a projector and for some reason when linked through HDMI the projector resorts to its native aspect ratio of 4:3 and the option to change it to 16:9 is no longer available.
OK, so my projector is a bit basic and bit of a pain, but i thought it wouldn't matter as i could change the aspect ratio in VLC.
Well not really. Firstly it works for series such as The Office, by changing the ratio from 'default' to '16:9' which shows the picture on the 4:3 projector as it was meant to be, with no stretching, but when it comes to most movies (Matrix bluray for example) there is no way to stop the image from looking a little stretched on the vertical axis. I need a player which will let me manually input the ratio i want to watch the movie in, because if the source is 16:9, it looks stretched on the 4:3 projector, so i need to change it to something like 16:8 or 16:7.
Apparently you could do this with Quicktime Pro, you can stretch the image to any ratio you want, but the geniuses at Apple decided that if you bought a new iMac you had to have Quicktime X, which is s*@t, and apparently doesn't have that option.
In the user profile there is a specified "linked" image. In my case it is the image that was created when my user ID was first established. I'd love to change it to a better image because evidently it gets linked with my messages etc. I'm running Yosemite (OS 10.10.1) on a relatively new iMac

I have a 24" iMac that has completely all of a sudden stopped wanting to connect to the internet. However, my Macbook, connected to the same ethernet cord or wireless network, works flawlessly and has no trouble. The iMac will find the wireless network...show full bars...then drop a bar....then another bar, then another, until only the smallest bar is available. It will transfer data but only for a few seconds until it wont work at all. Now the macbook, sitting right next to the imac will show full bars and stay that way. So i tried a ethernet cable to the iMac and it will not even pull up 1 single page, but the same cable connected to my Macbook will work flawlessly.

For example as I am writing this Temperature Monitor is saying My CPU A is 46.8C and CPU B is 46.7C. In iStat it says CPU A is 55C and CPU B is 54C. Which is right!?

Is this too high? Lately the fan has been turning on more recently almost without any apps running so I think that there might be some hardware problem. I ran HardwareTest it found nothing.

I have my new Imac, and in my lounge I have a cable TV set-top box.How (if) can I take the signal from my set-top box and use my Imac as a 24" TV in my bedroom? I looked at USB TV tuner devices, but they seem geared towards a normal analogue antenna, is there a easier and or cheaper way to simple take the set-top box output and watch it full screen on my IMac? The cabling isn't a problem as I am an electrician, its working out the best device or interfaces I could use?
FYI My set-top box has the following outputs (assume there outputs)on it..
-A yellow Video RCA (composite?)
-Normal stereo audio RCAs
-S-VHS (the round multi-pin plug)
Looking for a recommendation on temperature widget. This new i5 is too hot to the touch on the top. Well I could hold my hand there but it is not fun to do so. So I want a good widget/etc that will give me an idea of how hot it really is. On a side note. I cannot hear the drive or fans in my new i5. For wow players, all options (including full shadows but no full screen bloom), it bottoms out around 27fps in heavy effects environments or fast spin in busy Dalaran.
Peaks are beyond refresh (in fact I may want to cap that). After a three hour session the top portion of the aluminum enclosure was too hot to keep my hand pressed to it so I am looking for something to convince myself I am not going to end up with a cooked iMac in a few weeks. Since my desk is in the center of the room there is no problem with air flow but I don't want to have to run the ceiling fan.
I downloaded and installed Temperature Monitor and iMac Fan Control - mainly for observational purposes and not for toying around with the fan speeds and I've got some questions. Mind you, I haven't tampered at all with the fan speed settings, just installed Fan Control. Here are my readings (while browsing the internet with Safari and doing a chat via iChat):
Fan Speeds:
CPU fan (desired) 1300 RPM / (current) 1530 RPM
HD fan (desired) 2100 RPM / (current) 2099 RPM
DVD fan (desired) 1300 / 1298 RPM
Temperatures:
CPU Heatsink: 92F
Internal HD: 108F
Internal DVD: 95F
GPU Heatsink: 107F
Are these, under the circumstances, normal readings?
I've been using intel iMac core2 duo. There are some temperature sensors to HDD, CD/DVD and CPU, etc., I think. Apple computer is well designed for thermal control and is this big advantage for technical point of view ?

That is, when I run my hand across the outside of the machine, it is warm all over, and the entire upper portion of the back is what I would call "hot" to the touch. That is, I can place my hand there for a while, but it is uncomfortable. Is this normal? I suppose there is a specification for case temps. In a more analytic vein, iStat Nano shows component temps as follows:
HD: 58
CPU A: 57
GPU: 64
GPU Diode: 68
GPU Heatsink: 64
Ambient: 31
Memory Controller: 58
I just wanted to share what's been going on with my i7 which I received last Friday. Immediately I was curious about what sort of temps I was going to be running so I installed Temperature Monitor. At idle my graphics readings hover around 40C. However, when playing Warcraft 3 my Graphics Processor Temperature Diode reaches up to 84C.
I don't really know what temps are acceptable, I was just wondering what other i7 HD4850s out there are running. To deal with this seemingly high temperature I installed smcFanControl and boosted all fan speeds by 50%. Noise doesn't seem to be proportional to fan speed at these levels so no probs there. Now I run at 64C at load and I am at peace with that.
Shouldn't the OS be increasing fan speed on its own?
Would like to know what you guys think and observe in your i7 machines
Is there a very simple way to show just the ambient temperature sensor reading on an iMac? Not for geeky or engineering purposes. Just to know the temp that the machine and the human are in. iStat widget shows it but really tiny, buried in all the other data,and only if you launch Widgets.Ideally, it would just work in the background and the temperature would show up in the menu on the right side. Maybe next to the time. Alternatively, as a little floating window on the desktop.Yep, just want to see the room temperature using the iMac thermometer.

I am having random slowdowns on my connection speed using Airport (nothing to do with the notorious performance issues which I also suffer).
My appleTV and my HP 2140 get 90% (it's right by the router) and 80% (floating around the same floor of the house) signal strength respectively, download speed and throughput seems very stable on both, however on the iMac (that's about 10 feet away from the router) the signal strength is 28% ! this is incredibly low and even though it does not always hurt download speed it does hurt the total throughput when sharing files over the network. Also the SNR (signal to noise ratio) is incredibly low, below 30 all the time.
Does anyone know the maximum operating temperature inside the new 27-inch iMac? I've read that they shouldn't be operated beyond 35 degrees Celsius [95 degrees F]. But that's the ambient temperature, not the computer's internal temperature.
I ask this because I have been running iStat for years. It monitors various things, including internal temperature. I always keep an eye on this during warm days, even when I have the air-conditioning on. So it would be good to know the maximum temperature.
I have a I mac and an airport. I've been having problems lately(one month) every time I try to connect to the net. it says there is no connection. if I refresh, it works. the reception icon was showing full (4 bars). 3 days ago, no reception, o bars, today, I got it back. i am about 50 feet away, around a corner outer house wall. nothing has changed in terms of new or moved electronic equipment. I even turned off my 5.0 ghz phone.
any thought on how to fix this?
My IMac is "scanning" for wifi signal while IPad finds signal @same location. How can I tell if hardware is bad or system set up wrongly?
