I use BBEdit which has me placing an application support file (CSS) about four or five sub files into the "User" file,. where I never go, partially because it is so far to scroll down to.
Thus I keep a handy copy in the file I'm working with so it is just a mouse click away.
How do I sync the unaccessible file to the one I can get to more readily. One is for uploading to a website and the other is to support BBEdit so I can preview locally before uploading to the site.
I'm using TimeMachine on Firewire HD for backup but also like to use my network shared PC windows vista HD to sync files.
I can see all files either way and also copy manually with explorer or finder. But when I use sync software all shared network HDs do not show up. Apps for Mac or Windows either way. Why?
I know there are ways to sync files across computers, but I wonder if you can do it on the same computer. I have a file in one directory (Direcotry A) named users.yml, and a file in another directory (Directory B) called users.yml.Those directory A and directory B are in the same super directory. Is there any way I could have both of the users.yml sync with eachother so if I changed one, the other file would be the same?
I am trying to connect a toshiba tablet to the mac to sync files into it, but the mac is unable to detect the device. How can I transfer the files into the device?
I've been told it's possible to sync. an application on my iMac to my iPad. I use the calendar specifically for the event reminders that I set up on the desktop Mac when I'm at home, but it would be good if I could access this information on my iPad when I'm away from home.
I want to sync the iCal on all the accounts on my iMac so the kids can see the calendar in their accounts. I am sure this is probably very easy but I can't seem to manage it.
I setup my new iMac (purchased 14 May 2014) with a whole bunch of FaceTime contacts. These are there in my FaceTime pane. I bought an iPadAir last week and also have an iPhone. On both these Apple devices I also entered some FaceTime contact data, tried both out and they worked just fine; that is they talked to each other and other people. As this information was slightly different on all three devices, I wanted them to automatically follow what I have on my iMac, so I plugged them both in to the iMac. I then (separately) did a Sync of both devices from iTunes, and all the data for FaceTime in both cases instead of being updated and streamlined/synchronized with my iMac has been wiped. automatically rather than have to enter and re-enter all the data again and again each time I do a Sync.
Note: when I did the Sync the music I added today went where it should, so there's no problem with connections, etc. On the Info page I've clicked on "Sync Contacts" which would seem to be what was necessary. Now when I try to Sync either of these devices, the Sync process goes on and on and never stops. I can't see any way of stopping it other than doing a Force Quit of iTunes - which is pretty useless as I will obviously want to Sync these and my other Apple devices again in the future. As a result of this neither of these devices will now Sync with my iMac, other than locking themselves into a cintinuous loop. As I've just bought both the iMac and the iPadAir I could contact Apple direct, but I thought I'd try here first.
When I first started using my iMac, I started with an e-mail address that I could easily gain access to. Shortly after that, I learned what Facetime was an created an account using a different e-mail address. Is it possible to sync these two accounts? I would like to use one of these accounts for my Macbook.
I am new to iPad, barely have a clue how to use it. I find apps on the iTunes on the computer and download, but it won't sync to my iPad. It keeps saying 'you need to authorize this computer', which I do, only to be told 'it is already authorized', and it goes on like this. The apps can't be found on the iPad Itunes (I looked for even popular apps like Whisper and it isn't coming up) so it seems that the only option is to get the computer to sync with the Ipad--but how? I thought Ipad were intuitive to use but I am not find this at all right now.
Can you do a target disc mode through a usb male to male cable? I want to Sync exactly my work files from my iMac to the MBP for when I go away. The best way I've found to do that is to use a free app called SyncTwoFolders.
It means you can copy your work between two computers go away with one and work for a few months come back and sync it with the other and vice versa. To do this you need to connect two computers. My iMac has Firewire and USB. The MBP has USB and Thunderbolt. USB to USB doesn't seem to work.
What cable should I buy to do this? Firewire to Thunderbolt? Firewire to USB? USB to Thunderbolt?
Info: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
My old G4 iMac 20 is being given to an relative and I need to transfer files, addresses, bookmarks, etc. to my iMac 24 intel. Both Macs have OSX 10.4.11. What is best method to transfer data?
Also, how difficult to change the name who owns the iMac as well as the password?
My iMac (Intel) is having serious problems playing saved video files, especially from the Elgato EyeTV hybrid (file extension .eyetv). Everything played fine for about 1.5 years, then suddenly the iMac just started pinwheeling intermittently and stopping the video every few seconds. It was like watching Youtube on dial-up. I tried closing programs, stopping Time Machine, restarting, reinstalling EyeTV... but nothing fixed it, it only got worse and actually started freezing the whole machine and causing incredibly slow and scary restarts with lots of blue screens. At this point I actually re-formatted the whole darn computer and the files played OK for maybe a day or two, then just started pinwheeling the .eyetv files again, although movies on my hard drive play ok now as far as I know. Youtube and other streaming has always been fine. Watching live-feed TV on the EyeTV has never been a problem either. Why can't I watch my recorded files?
I have a 4 yr old macBook Air with solid state disk capacity 120 GB. It has loads of music and about 12000 photos on it and the disk is getting full.I also have an iPhone 4s.I am treating myself to a new iMac with 1 Tb drive.I guess it would be sensible to move most photos and music to the new iMac.(I have a 500Gb hard drive I use to back up the macAir)
Re photostream - does it store photos on the Macbook itself? Can I set up my phone to send photos to the iMac instead of the current macbook air? How?How do I keep duplicates of some of the photos on the macbook?
I want to use an online back up service (in addition to using time machine on an external drive). I am only interested in backing up my pictures, songs, and emails. I am not sure which files and or directories to choose (FWIW I am planning on using Mozy). I am on OSX 10.9.4, iTunes 11.3.1, mail 7.3, and IPhoto 9.5.1. I haven't altered any of the default program setting as far as where they normally save files.
My new mac has pages, numbers & keynote. Do I still need to buy Office, in order to transfer my word & excel files? I would be fine trying out the apple versions, but I don't think iMac will transfer the files unless I install Office. Is there maybe a slick way to change the file extensions prior to transfer? I am trying to transfer, by the way, from my files backed up on Carbonite.
Moving on....today my iMac was acting sluggish, I powered it off and on and the screen initially was pixelated. It then went into recover mode. When I tried the disk repair, the message indicated that it could not be repaired. I called support and they suggest that I hook up my mac mini and go into target disk mode. I did this but it wouldn't mount so I wasn't able to move any files. how to retrieve my files and restore my computer?
I was transferring images from my Transend 32 GB memory card when halfway through something happened and only half the images copied properly. The other half are greyed out, I cannot view the thumbnail and when I try to do anything with it it says "one or more of the items in "IMG_9203.CR2" can't be changed because they are in use. The memory card is empty now and I can't figure out how to get back my images!
Trying to get my MS Outlook Contacts onto my new MAC but for some reason the MAC address book will not recognize the .csv or .txt files that outlook generates in its Export process. I've opened the files in excel and in Numbers and they look fine - the MAC just doesn't like them for some reason.
I own a 2011 iMac OSX 10.9.4 that has a 250GB ssd and a 1TB hard drive built into it. I take a lot of photos, so usually I copy all of them into the 1TB hard drive for storage. A few days ago I wanted to look through some old pictures and found that all my files from after mid 2012 have completely vanished. There is no trace of any updates to this hard drive after mid 2012. I know I did not misplace these photos because I frequently place new folders in the hard drive and view old memories. When I went to place more folders in, I noticed the amount of folders decreased drastically.
I've tried searching for the photos in the search bar and scrolling through "All My Files", and they are just not there. I've also tried revealing any hidden folders through Terminal. There are no folders with a modification date past mid 2012. The thing is, everything in the SSD hard drive appears normal and updated, only the 1TB hard drive has reverted back to a 2012 state. Is there any way to retrieve the files? Months of work and photos are gone. How could this have happened? And how can I prevent this from happening in the future?
I have an early 2008 iMac which I am about to sell and replace with a newer version. I regularly use Time Machine to do back ups. What's the best way to reformat my old machine before I sell and also restore all my files onto the new iMac?
I have some PDF files that I need to download from the internet/Safari. How do I do that? There is a button that I can click on my PC using Firefox but I can't find anything in Safari of my iMac.
I just deleted yahoo messenger from my computer by going to finder then applications and throwing it in the trash. But when i reinstalled it by downloading from the website it remembered some info from before? How can I totally delete yahoo messenger?
10.8 and 10.9 become a headache copying/moving files/folders between disks. After download selected images to my Imac from cards I used to move all of them to a local network backup disk (attached to a linux OS)
I don't do this anymore from a year ago: annoying warnings like "the file ... is in use" (not in use, even had been downloaded) stopped move; repeated procedure with the rest of the files included the 'used' one, over and over again and finally, after 12 times or so all files had moved. 100 files to move, stop, 80 files to move, stop, 60 files.......
Same problem moving files between disks attached to the same iMac.'You have to provide an admin password...." -> Continue Password set and again 'File ... is in use' (not in use, it is just backup file)Reseting the Mac. Worse
.'You have to provide an admin password...." No 'Continue' option, just only 'Ok' that will do.... nothing. My solution: Terminal: sudo mv source target
I guess Finder has been tought to make life easier, isn't it?
i went into recovery mode and tried to repair my hard drive and it says it can't be repaired and I have to restore my computer. is there anyway i can backup my files from recovery mode onto a new disk?
