Jun 29, 2010My goal is to export HD quality files to upload to my website that accepts flv, f4v, and mp4 formats. When I try exporting using Compressor to the mp4 format, the sound quality is there, but the video plays at half speed and has vertical lines in it. I've tried it several times, and have even first exported a .mov file from FCP, then used Compressor only to have the same results.

Aug 21, 2014Someone at work recorded a screen capture video. Within the frame, there's good material but a lot of garbage around the edges that I don't want (what Sally Hogshead would call "screen crapture"). The good stuff lasts the entire duration of the clip, is not perfectly centered, and does not move at all in its placement or change size throughout the clip.
If I crop or trim, I can eliminate the garbage, either making it transparent or black (there's no other clip beneath it to show through) easily enough. Is there a way to then export just the desired portion of the video frame (the non-cropped good stuff) as its own video at a smaller frame size?

OS X :: Trying To Upload Video For The First Time?
Jul 20, 2009I have only been a Mac owner for a couple of months, and I'm trying to figure out how to do basic video editing. I just bought a Canon Vixia HF s100 to replace a miniDVD type camcorder that was arbitrarily corrupting entire disks of video. Just now I tried to upload the first few clips that I've taken with the camcorder, and I think I somehow lost all the info that was on the card.
I have a card reader that I use for my photos, so I used that with the SDHC card based off of info someone had posted on this forum. Then I watched the imovie tutorial and decided I should've just plugged in the camcorder with the card in it and uploaded that way. When I put the card back in the camcorder it shows zero clips where there had been several.
I hope this makes some sense. . . does anyone know what I did wrong and if my video is lost forever??

May 30, 2010Got a cheap, no-name USB sound card here. Connected to my new MBP, it's detected as a USB sound device, but no sound comes out when I try to play through. Didn't really expect it to work but it would be nice if I could get it going. I've got the Logitech Z-5500 speaker set, and I want to use the 3 plug analogue connection. At the moment I'm using the optical connection, which gets me surround sound fine, but only if I force it to use a Dolby Pro Logic mix, which is useless for games (great for movies and music though.)

Feb 16, 2010Whenever i upload a video to youtube, it stops about halfway through or part way through and literally STOPS. the progress bar just wont move or change. it is very frustrating. i use a wireless connection, and even when i literally sit right next to the wireless box, the problem occurs, the videos have ranged from 5 mins to 10 mins. it has occured on both safari and firefox.

May 23, 2012I have a box full of handwritten notes that I would like to convert to a digital format (jpeg or pdf), but I know nothing about these formats and so don't know the best method to do so: scanning is feasible, but terribly, painfully slow. I would prefer to snap photos of each page and then convert to pdf but I've had previous experiences with large pdfs generated from jpegs that were unbearably slow to open and navigate because of the size of the file.
I'm not looking for OCR or to buy a new scanner / camera, I was just hoping someone could point me in the direction of learning more about the formats themselves and perhaps recommend an effective workflow or another community that specializes in this sort of thing (all my searches for analogue to digital conversion lead to dead ends). Most of the material is just reference notes that I would like to have, so the quality just needs to be readable. It is written in pencil or pen, some of it is printed.

Feb 18, 2012I have installed a free trial of Avid Media Composer 6. I had it on my computer and it was working fine, but I thought there was an issue so I unistalled it, and then reinstalled it. Now I am getting an error message whenever I attempt to open a project. It reads..."Segmentation fault" in thread "MainThread", at address 0x0 ... and then the Avid Media Composer shuts down. I have read that it is necessary to unistall any existing software first which is exactly what I did. Im using lion on a 2 ghz i7 macbook pro.

Then I did the upgrade to OSX 10.9.2, for sofar was everything ok. Later I did the upgrade to OSX 10.9.3 and then the problems started.
A portion of AVID no longer worked properly. So the problem was clearly the upgrade. Now my question is how can I go back to OSX 10.9.2 ...

QuickTime :: Pro 7 Refuses To Launch Independently After Installation Of AVID MC7 / Sorenson Squeeze
Apr 17, 2012After installation MC7 and Squeeze, i can no longer launch QT / QT Pro. The only way i can play .mov files is via iTunes, which for me is less than desireable. So the codec is obviously there.
Please note that QT 7 (non pro) was working fine prior to installing Avid & Sorenson.
I've tried 'repairing' QT by downloading the file, but even after the repair it still refuses to launch.
Also, QT is non longer listed in the 'open with' options..

Jun 23, 2014I currently have a Mac Mini, ssd drive, 2.6ghz quad core i7 with 16gb of ram. Graphics is intel hd4000. Despite it's not having dedicated graphics, would I be able to do some fairly heavy video editing, in Final Cut Pro, with it? I'm still learning, but the computer was an investment and I hope it grows with me. Right now I'm learning with iMovie, but I plan on purchasing FcP in the near future. I am hoping I don't have to worry about purchasing another Mac for at least a couple of years, just because I don't have discrete graphics or iris in this one.
Basically I'm not looking to edit a feature-length presentation, but I'd like to do some music videos, with some cool effects, maybe get into short films or documentaries of 10 to 15 min in length. Nothing too intense, but I'd like to play around with some effects.

When i import from my camera into fcp the video quality looks fine and it is hd and when i play it frame by frame the video quality looks fine, it's just when i play it, the video suddenly drops in quality and goes slightly pixelated.
