My parents iMac is getting the beachball after about 5 minutes online on any browser (AOL, Safari, and Firefox) but every other Mac in the house is loading fine. The iMac is on Snow Leopard and was bought in July of 2008.
View 2 RepliesLately (last few weeks) Safari has been really sluggish loading pages. Any pages. I've used 5.1.7, downgraded to 5.1.5 which helped for a few days only. Pages do eventually load. Other apps seem fine. I've repaired permissions with Disk Utility, which didn't help. Chrome works fine, other apps work fine.

I recently had to initialize the HD and restore from Time Machine, so I'm thinking I screwed something up then. what piece of Safari-related software could be missing or misplaced that would make pages load VERY slowly in Safari, but eventually load?

Whenever I open Safari, it takes over a minute to open the first web page. Once the page is open, it surfs very fast. so it's not a problem with my internet speed. Just a problem waiting for Safari to open the first page.

when I open Safari, the page hangs up for a bit, I usually have to click on "Empty Cache"...then it continues loading. What is causing the delay? this also happens when I start up my Macbook Pro, so I know my cache is not full.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a programmer of bussines applications and my company has a program that lets our clients view/alter/attest invoices. It is a part of a larger bussines application suite with an html gui working against a Progress database and it is all running on the clients server. This application suite has been running for a number of years for other clients all of which have been using IE to run it, but we have recently gotten a few clients that want to run it through Safari on their Macbooks and for some reason the program that handles invoices seems to "stall". The program usually opens up the base-gui and then runs a calculation frame (works sort of like a ajax call, only a bit older/simpler inhouse version) that collects the data from the database and then inserts data in the various iframes, displaying tables, enabeling buttons, that sort of thing. As far as I can tell from the screenshots that our client has sent us the basic layout opens up, but then nothing else happens. No tables get displayed and no buttons gets enabled, so it seems that the calculation frame is not running for some reason or other.
This problem however only occurs on this and one other users computers that I am aware of. I have confirmed that the program in itself is written according to standard and it runs just fine through Firefox and Safari on both PC and Mac when I have tested it on a couple of different locations. We have ofc tested it in our own environments and also by logging in to our problem-experiencing-clients own account and installation through both Safari (3.2.1) and Firefox (3.0.4) on both PC's and Macs opening up the exact same programs with exactly the same invoices and we never encounter any problems whatsoever. All the tests that we have done leads me to conclude that the actual programming of the application is solid and that the trouble must be with the clients own setup seeing as how it only ever seems to occur there. The problem is ofc that I don't know my hand from my elbow when it comes to Mac and Safari and as such I don't have any idea *how* to troubleshoot it or where the problem might occur. It could be anything from her internet connection/firewall/browser setup/internet options or whatever as far as I know. Unfortunately the Client is quite a far away, so it is quite difficult for me to check her setup first hand and she is not very computer literate so it is also difficult to get much useful information out of her.
What I know about about her setup so far is this:
- She is using a Macbook Air that she bought last spring (2008) and it is her own personal computer.
- She updated the Safari installation at her local apple store a week ago.
- She has tried installing Firefox and got the same problem there.
- She was unable to find a version of IE that works with her OSX so she has been unable to test it with that browser.
- She says that her internet connection is "wireless broadband" and she hasn't really said anything more about it than that (I doubt she knows or cares about the specifics about such things unfortunately).
- As far as firewalls go I have no idea what she is using, but I doubt very much that she would use anything that wasn't pre-installed on the box when she got it.
Is there a way to stop loading contents of a page such as a flash video?Â

I noticed that Safari wouldn't load a web page. So I went to my back up browser, Firefox. Well it loaded just fine. So at this point, I figured that it may be my schools crappy WiFi/lame firewalls or something of the sort. Well now I've been on my home WiFi for a few hours and it still won't connect. I've restarted my computer a few times and even reset Safari. Safari Version 5.0.1 (6533.17.8).

View 1 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to Snow Leopard (SL). I have noticed a painfully slow access to sites when using Firefox and Safari. Pages used to load almost instantaneous with Leopard. Now when using either Firefox or Safari on SL, It's taking an average of 8-10 seconds to load a page in my web browser. Feels like I'm on dialup. I have the fastest internet service you can get (Roadrunner Turbo Plus), but for some unknown reason my internet page access is painfully slow. I'm really thinking of using Time Machine to set my Mac back to Leopard, but I really don't want too. I figured I'd wait a few days to see if this problem surfaces, and perhaps a solution can be found.

Like the title says since Snow Leopard when I go to websites with a flash video player built in it beachballs my internet browser endlessly until I force quit. It is very frustrating. I have reinstalled flash player many times. Youtube works fine, but Hulu is impossible to watch. This makes a good portion of websites I visit not even functional.

I am Having some issues with Safari (I am using 4.0.5), if I open up a website the screen stays white like it normally does for a sec to load a web page but the loading icon keeps spinning and spinning and spinning....... until I click the "X" stop icon and reload the web page. As soon as I click the reload icon the webpage loads up instantly, it is getting really annoying and would be great if anyone has a fix. This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen frequently and then be fine for a few web pages and then start up again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedQuite a while back, I switched from Firefox back to Safari, because Firefox was driving me crazy with it's intermittent freezes and whatnot. Safari was so much faster and allowed tabbing to menu form fields (which I think Firefox still does not do). But lately, it seems like Safari just slogs through everything it tries to do. Google maps is painful. Loading up the CBS website earlier took over a minute, and not because of a slow connection.
The spinning beachball now appears on every click it seems. This is was Safari 3, so I updated to Safari 4 beta, and it doesn't seem much better. It's odd because it didn't used to be like this...It just sort of started out of nowhere. One thing I do notice is that my hard drive is just churning away with activity at these times. Any ideas what could cause such random slowdowns? Restarting does not help. It's just as slow afterward.

I don't know what my wife did to her 13" white MacBook, but Firefox is slow as molasses. Safari is working perfectly, but all of her bookmarks are in Firefox. I made sure she was on the correct network, than added opendns settings to DNS. I downloaded and installed the most recent Firefox and repaired permissions on the drive. I rebooted - same problem. Random beachballs causing the app to be useless. Safari works perfectly, so it's not an Internet issue. I haven't tried other apps to be sure but right now it seems confined to Firefox.

Have any idea why I can't get my computer back up to speed?
I've recently brought a mac book never had one before. In the month I've had it page loading is really slow i have done the required updates, and nothing has been downloaded. I have tried some of the things people have suggested, cache delete, history delete, etc but nothing has worked.

I seem to be having a hell of a time with all google related things. About 50% of the time I can't get to the google search page and get the error message Safari can't open the page [URL] because Safari can't connect to the server. When I am able to get into gmail, I am constantly being disconnected from gchat, like every 5 minutes. When it disconnects, it will try to reconnect, most of the time unsuccessfully. I then get the error message, unable to reach gmail please check your internet connection. This happens no matter what browser I use. However, when I try to connect from my husband's PC (same network), everything is fine. I've tried emptying my safari cache, tried uninstalling and re-installing both safari and firefox, and I am out of ideas. Any ideas about what is going on, and how I might fix this issue. I searched through the google help, and there were similar problems posted (none recently), but no answers on how to solve the issue. This has been going on for about a week now, and it's driving me up a wall.

I changed my Mac to log in with my iCloud password, which I also recently changed. This is when things went... crazy.Â
• Upon reboot, my Keychain password will not work. No password I give Keychain will work.Â
• Safari just sits there with the beachball. Force-quit shows Safari as "Not Responding."Â
• Launchpad will not accept keyboard inputÂ
I've repaired the drive and preferences. No change.
For what it's worth, another account on the same machine does NOT exhibit these issues.Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I start or wake up my imac g5 (Tiger) and open safari the system seems to hang for about a minute or so (beachball when curson is on desktop, but app names show when cursor is over the dock). Does not happen when I start other applications first, but even these stop when I start safari immediately after. System runs normally once safari is running. Permissions repair and other usual maintenance task performed (I use onyx), but problem persists.

I also hear it when I load a new web page (using either Safari or Firefox). The images seem to click faintly when they load. I'm on Mac OS X version 10.5.8, on a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 with 8GB DDR SDRAM.
