I just recently got DSL in my home and I am experiencing super slow load times on both Safari and Firefox. I know that is not a problem with the internet, modem, or router becasue my parents PCs and my PS3 all run perfectly on the WiFi connection.
I also recently updated to Snow Leopard on my Macbook.
Have any idea why I can't get my computer back up to speed?
I've recently brought a mac book never had one before. In the month I've had it page loading is really slow i have done the required updates, and nothing has been downloaded. I have tried some of the things people have suggested, cache delete, history delete, etc but nothing has worked.

You know the start up page that appears when you press the power button, the blue ish white one with the apple logo on the middle and a circular loading thing? Well mine won't stop loading. I left it on all night and it still hasn't finished loading. Its the circular one that just goes around and around.

Whenever I open Safari, it takes over a minute to open the first web page. Once the page is open, it surfs very fast. so it's not a problem with my internet speed. Just a problem waiting for Safari to open the first page.

when I open Safari, the page hangs up for a bit, I usually have to click on "Empty Cache"...then it continues loading. What is causing the delay? this also happens when I start up my Macbook Pro, so I know my cache is not full.

My PPC G5 computer is currently connected to two monitors via VGA adapters, and lately when I scroll any window on either of the two screens, or resize a window, I hear a faint clicking sound through my earphones. I also hear it when I load a new web page (using either Safari or Firefox). The images seem to click faintly when they load. I'm on Mac OS X version 10.5.8, on a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 with 8GB DDR SDRAM.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a programmer of bussines applications and my company has a program that lets our clients view/alter/attest invoices. It is a part of a larger bussines application suite with an html gui working against a Progress database and it is all running on the clients server. This application suite has been running for a number of years for other clients all of which have been using IE to run it, but we have recently gotten a few clients that want to run it through Safari on their Macbooks and for some reason the program that handles invoices seems to "stall". The program usually opens up the base-gui and then runs a calculation frame (works sort of like a ajax call, only a bit older/simpler inhouse version) that collects the data from the database and then inserts data in the various iframes, displaying tables, enabeling buttons, that sort of thing. As far as I can tell from the screenshots that our client has sent us the basic layout opens up, but then nothing else happens. No tables get displayed and no buttons gets enabled, so it seems that the calculation frame is not running for some reason or other.
This problem however only occurs on this and one other users computers that I am aware of. I have confirmed that the program in itself is written according to standard and it runs just fine through Firefox and Safari on both PC and Mac when I have tested it on a couple of different locations. We have ofc tested it in our own environments and also by logging in to our problem-experiencing-clients own account and installation through both Safari (3.2.1) and Firefox (3.0.4) on both PC's and Macs opening up the exact same programs with exactly the same invoices and we never encounter any problems whatsoever. All the tests that we have done leads me to conclude that the actual programming of the application is solid and that the trouble must be with the clients own setup seeing as how it only ever seems to occur there. The problem is ofc that I don't know my hand from my elbow when it comes to Mac and Safari and as such I don't have any idea *how* to troubleshoot it or where the problem might occur. It could be anything from her internet connection/firewall/browser setup/internet options or whatever as far as I know. Unfortunately the Client is quite a far away, so it is quite difficult for me to check her setup first hand and she is not very computer literate so it is also difficult to get much useful information out of her.
What I know about about her setup so far is this:
- She is using a Macbook Air that she bought last spring (2008) and it is her own personal computer.
- She updated the Safari installation at her local apple store a week ago.
- She has tried installing Firefox and got the same problem there.
- She was unable to find a version of IE that works with her OSX so she has been unable to test it with that browser.
- She says that her internet connection is "wireless broadband" and she hasn't really said anything more about it than that (I doubt she knows or cares about the specifics about such things unfortunately).
- As far as firewalls go I have no idea what she is using, but I doubt very much that she would use anything that wasn't pre-installed on the box when she got it.
Is there a way to stop loading contents of a page such as a flash video?

I noticed that Safari wouldn't load a web page. So I went to my back up browser, Firefox. Well it loaded just fine. So at this point, I figured that it may be my schools crappy WiFi/lame firewalls or something of the sort. Well now I've been on my home WiFi for a few hours and it still won't connect. I've restarted my computer a few times and even reset Safari. Safari Version 5.0.1 (6533.17.8).

Now when using either Firefox or Safari on SL, It's taking an average of 8-10 seconds to load a page in my web browser. Feels like I'm on dialup. I have the fastest internet service you can get (Roadrunner Turbo Plus), but for some unknown reason my internet page access is painfully slow. I'm really thinking of using Time Machine to set my Mac back to Leopard, but I really don't want too. I figured I'd wait a few days to see if this problem surfaces, and perhaps a solution can be found.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have used Azureus on this computer with this cable modem for over 2 years with no problem. Recently, I bought a new Mac Mini. I bought a router to hook them all up (Belkin G Wireless F5D7234-4 v4, firmware up-to-date). Everything works nicely. Except, now whenever I start up Azureus, web pages either load very slowly or not at all, usually hanging up on contacting the server. Likewise, my email program is unable to fetch or deliver mail reliable. As soon as I shut down Azureus, these problems clear up.
I'm still able to transfer files between the 2 machines while this is going on, it's just that neither one can reliably get through to the Net. (I thought UPnP might be a problem, so I shut that off in Azureus and forwarded the ports manually in the router. No change.) I don't think this is in any way connected, but I've noticed I can't set the admin password on the router. If I do, it appears to accept it, but then I can't log back into the router with either the default or my new password.
My iMac has just gotten all grumpy and weird with me, when attempting to browse anything on the internet (or even trying to access the router via 192.168.1.1) everything is ridiculously slow or just doesn't load. At first the speed went down dramatically - i went on speedtest.net and did a test, the page took a good 5 mins to load and after the test it turned out that i had a speed of 0.2 Mbps (my average speed on a good day is about 2.5 Mbps, shocking i know!) Ive tried turning the computer off and restarting it to no avail. Im doing this on my Macbook Pro which is sat next to the iMac and with a speed test is coming up with speed of about 2.2 Mbps, so its clearly the machine and not the internet/router. Ive tried using Safari, Chrome and Firefox they all provide the same, unusably slow responces.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a person that sent along this video and it concerns me that a hard drive would make such a noise. It's unlike anything I've heard in a drive. He claims the original owner installed a new Seagate 7200rpm in the book, and that it mostly happens when loading a web-page on Safari.
Every time I look up "hard drive click" I get the SMS triggered "tink" but this notebook is not in motion and instead makes a "ca-chink".
I am Having some issues with Safari (I am using 4.0.5), if I open up a website the screen stays white like it normally does for a sec to load a web page but the loading icon keeps spinning and spinning and spinning....... until I click the "X" stop icon and reload the web page. As soon as I click the reload icon the webpage loads up instantly, it is getting really annoying and would be great if anyone has a fix. This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen frequently and then be fine for a few web pages and then start up again.

i have a 2010 15" MBP 2.66 ghz i7, with 4 GB ddr3 1066 ram, 500 GB 7200 rpm HDD, and the nvidia GT 330 M gpu. I tend to get down around 30 MB of ram when i am running Starcraft 2. I do not understand what pages in and pages out means. Before i started SC 2 it was like 50k + pages in and 0 pages out. After running SC 2 for like2 hours i have 150k+ pages in and 100k + pages out.I am pretty sure i just need to add some more ram but i would like to know what these mean so i can better monitor my system.

This is data and not total capacity. This includes all your on-line data: music, images, video, the OS, all of it. It doesn't include back-up data even if it's on-line like Time Machine tho. Just active data.
And of the on-line storage devices used for that DATA totally, what % are they filled to?
For example if you had two 500 GB drives and about 400 GB of data you would answer:
"I have < 500 GB of DATA on-line." and,"My on-line storage is between 25% and 50% full.".
i'm having some issues recording in garage band which should hopefully be easy to clear up. i record an instrumental track into garage band through the line-in jack in the back. the track shows up in garage band just fine and plays, but i'm running into trouble recording while that track is playing. i plug my headphones in so i can try to hear the track while i am recording vocals, but i am unable to hear the track. i checked the inputs/outputs in system preferences and output is set to headphones, microphone is set to line in. so i'm not too sure what it could be.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had this problem since Friday with my Mac Pro (March 2009) and haven't been able to solve it.
On Friday my speakers suddenly stopped working. After first having confirmed that the speakers were working with another source, I tried headphones both in frontal headphone slot and with the analog line out in the back, both without success. There's a red light in the optical audio out, indicating that it's on for some reason, although I have selected different audio out source. The internal speaker works just fine, only the normal audio out doesn't give me anything.
I found a thread in the MBP section similar to this problem, but solutions for MBP didn't work.
My line out port on my late 2007 white macbook recently died and I no longer have AppleCare. I never use the line in port on my computer and use the line out quite alot. I have tried all kinds of fixes to fix the problem but nothing works. I would like to use the line in port as a line out port. I am not sure if this is possible so I thought I would ask here if anyone knew of a way.
