MacBook Pro :: Disc Ejected When Waking?
Aug 5, 2009
If I have a disc in the dvd drive when I either turn on my computer or wake it from sleep, the disc will almost always be ejected.
If I then put it back in, it will usually self-eject another 3 or 4 times before it will actually spin up and be recognized by the MBP.

I want to completely reinstall my SL onto my MBP just to have a fresh start and 0 out my hard drive. I've already backed up all my important files and everything I need, but when I put in my SL disc it tries to read it and then just kicks it out of the drive without ever showing up on my laptop. It is not the disc I used when I upgraded my MBP from 10.5 to 10.6 though because I misplaced and cannot find that copy, but I am using a friends copy (I don't think this is the problem). I know my drive should read it because it reads every other CD I put into it and it shows up on my friends MacBook as well.

I am running OS 10.6 on a MacPro 2,6 MHz (build late 2009). Besides the 650Gig factory HD there is also a 1000Gig Samsung Spinpoint F3 with an HFS and NTFS partition and a 320 Gig Samsung HD with 2 NTFS partitions in bay 3. The later gets ejected from the system quiet often. I get the error message, that a disc was not ejected properly. After this incident, some programs crash or the whole system freezes.

I tried burning a dvd and it said that it couldn't be verified and ejected the disc. Now the computer won't recognize any disc that I try to insert - it just ejects it.Â

Trying to install OS in my macbook pro. DVD/CD drive is not letting or accepting the cd.I could put it in 1/3, but the macbook does not take it in. It seems something is stuck.I checked to see if any cd is in there and even tried rebooting and holding down the trackpad to see if something ejects.

I have this ridiculous problem with my MacBook (unibody). I've inserted a DVD that the drive cannot read. Because it cannot read it, it tries to eject it. Now my MacBook has always been a bit dodgy at ejecting disks - sometimes I have to slant it slightly so the disc comes out. However, this DVD just won't come out regardless of what I do. It's stuck in this loop of trying to read it, failing, trying to eject it, failing, trying to read, failing, etc.

so i found someone to buy my 2007 SR MBP. IT is currently running SL, so I am trying to wipe and reformat the HD. I inserted the original software discs (10.5), and it gets ejected, than I tried inserting the SL upgrade disc, and that gets ejected.
The drive accepts and recognizes other discs, but not the OS discs.

I have a iBook G4. The cd player all of a sudden is not reading a dvd or a cd when inserted. Never have had a problem with it at all. It tries to read it and then just ejects it. Tried to reinstall a new dvd software for the dvd player but didn't help. Just tried to insert a blank cd to burn jpgs to it and did the same thing, just ejected it.

MBP 15" (early '09) mbp 13" (mid '09). My 15" always auto ejects dvd rom (even though there is no disc inside) whenever I open the screen from sleep while the mbp 13" doesn't have this problem at all. Is this normal?

I burned photos to a CD-R and the CD-R automatically ejected. The photos are now on the CD-R. Now I keep getting an error message that says to complete the burn before I can quit iPhoto. I can not shut down the computer until iphoto shuts down.

My external hard drive has been repeatedly ejected improperly and now it is not displaying on my computer, not even in disk utility. How do I re-mount this external hard drive? In the past when this has happened, all I had to do was go to Disk Utility or use DiskWarrior to fix the issue but now it won't even show up in either of these apps. Â

Well, my question is very simple: I have a MBA and this other laptop from work, a crappy HP which is old as hell. I'm planning to use Remote Disc to reinstall my Leopard, since the upgrade to 10.5.3 really screwed things here, and I can't figure out why. Point is: instead of running all Leopard installation thru Remote Disc, I would prefer to share Leopard disc 1 over Remote Disc and restore it to a partition on my external HD, making a clone of it, which would install *much* faster. Has anyone tried anything like this? There's any Windows program which allows me to rip a Mac DVD to a Mac partition?

When I close my macbook lid after about 15 seconds the logo on the outside flashes like the laptop has woken itself up again. it does this repeatedly and the only way to stop it is to shut down the computer completely. I've been searching the web for answers and there seem to be many people having the same problem. One website suggested typing something in terminal. I'm pretty amateur when it comes to computers. But this comes up:
Usage: pmset [-b | -c | -u | -a] <action> <minutes> [<action> <minutes>...]
pmset -g [disk | cap | live | sched | ups | batt]
-c adjust settings used while connected to a charger
-b adjust settings used when running off a battery
-u adjust settings used while running off a UPS
-a (default) adjust settings for both
<action> is one of: displaysleep, sleep, disksleep (minutes argument)
or: reduce, dps, womp, ring, autorestart, powerbutton, halfdim,
lidwake, acwake, lessbright (with a 1 or 0 argument)
or for UPS only: haltlevel (with a percentage argument)
haltafter, haltremain (with a minutes argument)
or: hibernatefile <path> hibernatemode <integer>
hibernatefreeratio <integer percent>
hibernatefreetime <integer ms>
e.g. pmset -c dim 5 sleep 15 spindown 10 autorestart 1 womp 1
pmset schedule [cancel] <type> <date/time> [owner]
pmset repeat cancel
pmset repeat <type> <days of week> <time>
<type> is one of: sleep, wake, poweron, shutdown, wakeorpoweron
<date/time> is in "MM/dd/yy HH:mm:ss" format
<time> is in "HH:mm:ss" format
<days of week> is a subset of MTWRFSU
[owner] optionally describes the event creator

I've got a few purchased video DVD's that when I insert them in the Mac Pro (Feb 2008 model), it spends a minute spinning the disc and then ejects it. Other discs work fine, and these problem discs work fine in my MacBook Pro. Could this be a faulty DVD drive or some form of copy protection? If it could be a faulty drive, will Apple send me a replacement to fit myself. I don't want the hassle of lugging my Mac Pro to an Apple Retail Shop or to send it away for repair (I'd rather spend 25 to buy a replacement drive than go through that hassle!).

Made my first attempt at bootcamp last night. Whenever it would restart with the Vista DVD in the drive it would eject the disk and and give a non boot disk error. I have a Vista iso image burned onto a DVD+RW with Magic ISO. Is it because it is burned to a DVD+RW and not DVD-R? I know "RW" sometimes means there is a another bit of software on the DVD that's not part of the ISO. I loaded XP just fine and when I am in Windows and insert the Vista disk it recognizes it as a Vista disk. It will even start he installation but stops because the format is FAT32. So I restart from XP and it still ejects the disk.

I have a CD in there, but iTunes thinks there is none, and is asking me to inset a blank CD to burn a playlist. Itried restarting while holding down the mouse button, but had nothing ejected. What are some other ways to eject a CD? The eject key doesn't do anything, nor does command-E.

I just occasionally have noticed my Blackbook, running 10.5.6, when I open it after closing it and moving elsewhere say, may have lost a lot of it's battery power. I think what's happening is it's not going to sleep properly (or it's waking up) when closed. This of course leaves me with not enough power (today 8% when I opened up). What concerns me much more is that the HD arm might not be in the parked position and damage could result with me travelling around. I have in fact had two complete HD failures in 2 1/2 years (though I have no reason to believe this is the cause, in fact I doubt it). I'm aware I can press the power button then select SLEEP and I often do when I'm just charging at home and want to keep the temp down (it's hot here!). Very interested to know what's going on though.....in fact interested in the bigger picture of HD arms when the things spinning as I use my Macbook outside and on my lap a lot, and can't help some movement of course. I emphasise when I shut the lid it normally sleeps as normal, this is just an occasional thing. So is it dangerous, what's causing it, and what about the bigger pic on HD arms when moving the laptop around?

My girlfriends Air has suddenly gotten a weird problem lately. Every now and then when she wakes it from sleep it seems to think that it has a second display connected to it. Even rebooting doesn't always solve the problem.
She has never used an external display with it before. The port looks clean (I thought there might be something there causing a short) and as far as we know there hasn't been any tinkering with any system files on her computer.
Anybody ever heard of this problem before? Or have any idea how to fix it?

I have an i5 13" air. Sometimes after waking up from sleep I notice that nothing is running, all applications are closed, yet the temp according to istat is between 75c-82c. I checked the processes and the cpu is barely being hit. Yet the temp stays at those levels. I restart and everything is under 55c with like 4 apps running.
