Can my 27" i7 iMac burn dual layer dvd's?
My Optical Drive is an OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H
I have some images I want to burn to dual layer DVD's on my i7 iMac.
Which type do I user, DVD+R or DVD-R.
I have a G5 20" iMac.
I would like to replace the DVD for one that will do Dual Layer burn.
Of course I can pay for an expensive replacement.
I was wondering if any of these cheaper options available would work:
LG GSA-T20N
LiteOn DS-8A1P-21C
Anyone know if they are 100% compatible with the iMac G5 20"?
Just as the question says..Is It possible?

I have been trying to burn a .cdr file to a dual layer dvd using Disk Utility. I got it to work once, but I tried four times. I think that it must be very sensitive or something, because I can't figure out any other factor that affects it.
Has anybody else run into this problem, and if so, what's your solution? I think it may have to do with vibrations of the disk drive or something, but I would be lying if I said I knew that for sure...
This is a pretty basic question. iDVD
I have dual layer DVDs and want to burn the same small movie on both layers, one would be full screen, the other wide screen so the viewer can choose.
Is this possible? Is it just a matter of burning one movie at a time; will the comp recognize which layer is empty after the first burn?
I am trying in vain to burn a dual layer DVD with my new MacBook Pro 15".
It should work..... I tried both the Finder Burner and Toast Titanium 8......

anyone has a clue?
Alright, I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for by searching so I figured I'd ask. I think it should be fairly simple.
I have a pair of DVD's that were made a few years back. They contain a couple hours of footage from an event. Too much to put on one single layer DVD so it got split over 2.
What I'd like to do is copy both intact DVDs. But I much prefer now at this time to do this on one dual layer DVD for simplicity. All I have is the two DVD's which have simple menus and the footage. Ideally, I would like to be able to keep everything, and maybe put one simple menu on top to select between part 1 and part 2.
So what are my options? I do have FCS1 and the latest iLife setup. Not much more. I just don't know the best way to set up and burn this project.
I have been searching the net for 2 straight hours now. I cant get my g5 to read dual layer dvd +r disks. Not write but read. My ibook g4 can just fine. My drive is a pioneer dvr-107d. I keep reading about updating the firmware but for the life of me i cant firmware anywhere.

Thats basically the problem in a nut shell. I can't seem to burn a DVD+R DL, everytime I attempt to do this the system crashes completely and I get the transparent window telling me to restart the system. To me, this feels a lot like the blue screen of death.
Anyone else having a similar problem? Have there been similar problems reported? Its definitely not the discs either, I've tried using Philips and Memorex DVD+R DLs and neither work, however, burning this stuff on Tiger was fine, however I'm not sure if Leopard is to blame because i dont remember if I had burned any DVD+R DLs successfully using Leopard.
I've got a first gen. Mac Pro with a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D.

It says nothing about dual layer support.
I understand these machines burn images into screens sometimes, but they fade back to normal after a while. My issue is that its taking less and less time to burn images into my screen. It's so bad, I avoid using the left side of the screen because simply leaving anything there for a full minute burns the crap out of it. Oddly, this only effects the left third of the screen.
I remember taking it up to an apple store (not fun, considering none are near me. The address their tech support gave me actually went to a pawn shop.) but they simply told me to leave the itunes visualizer running every now and then.
Back then it was just mildly irritating. Now I cant do anything with that side of the screen! Would replacing the LCD resolve this issue?
Below is a picture taken from my motorola razr. I know it's bad, but that's all I have.
When I try inserting blank (brand-new) CD+ or CD- and DVD+ or DVD- discs, the slot-drive seems to accept the disc just fine. But then. I hear 2 short "whirrs", nothing for about 10 seconds, 2 short "whirrs", nothing for about 10 seconds, 2 short "whirrs", then the disc is ejected.I have experimented w/different discs & get the same results each time: drive accepts the disc for about 30 seconds, never mounts it on desktop, then ejects it.

I've got a handful of dual layer DVDs of which I'd like 1 copy of each.
To save time I wondered if I could plug my machine to my mate's machine via a network cable, with the original DVD in one mac, a blank in the other, and just hit 'Copy' in Toast?
AFAIK the write machine can only do 8 speed - would the data throughput via the network cable be fast enough for this?
If not, any way of doing it via Firewire?
I am trying to copy a DVDR recorded on a friend's DVD recorder. The disc is a single layer 4.7Gb TDK DVD+R and I'm using Toast Titanium. The problem is that my computer thinks the DVD+R is a dual layer disc. I say the computer rather than Toast because if I open the disc and copy the VIDEO_TS folder to the hard drive it takes up more than 10Gb, which is impressive since the disc it is copied from only has a 4Gb capacity! I have googled this but failed to find a solution.

I had a quick search on Google and found out that this happens more in cold environments. My room is very cold at the moment, but I haven't had anything like this happen before.
So, is this something that Apple can fix if I send the iMac in? It's still under AppleCare.
copying DVD's. When I had a PC, I used to use DVD shrink to convert large Dual layer DVDs down to sizes that would fit on a single layer DVD. I downloaded mac the ripper and it works, but it does not downsize DVD's.
