Mar 19, 2012Since upgrading to os x v 10.7.3 and moving from mobileme to iCloud as instructed, I am unable to send emails from an Imac connected to an older imac operating on osx 10.4 via wi-fi. Emails form this older box are succesful.
On my newer imac with osxv10.7.3, The email stays in outbox and sent folders with the spinner spinning next to the sent folder.It displays mail activity and outgoing messages...but does not change its staus.I am unable still here 1 hour later waiting for it to go.I have tried instructions from websiteConnection doctor - all green lights

Sometimes test messages sent by me to me go into the Important mailbox but not into the Inbox.Messages that have failed send end up copied several times in a folder called Bin.

Jul 2, 2012I cannot send mail. This has been an occasional problem. I'd send and a pop-up would offer me choice: Cancel, ~Trash, or Save as Draft. I'd save and successfully send as a draft. The last few days I've had to the saved draft and send in Eudora. Today I spent some time on this. At first it looked all right in Mail/Preferences/Accounts, smtp.west.cox.net.user name--then it persistently included (Offline), but Mail menu bar/ Window showed Take All Accounts Online dimmed and Take All Accounts Offline as the active option. At this time I could receive but not send mail. I have edited the smtp server list a number of times. No show of offline there. When I'm done (Offline) again pops up on theOutgoing Mail Server (SMTP). I deleted the account and recreated it and could not send. The (Offline) did not appear after the smtp.cox.net.user name. Early 2006 iMac, OS 10.6.8 The settings are OK, the same as in Eudora.

I have called my email provider who says everything is fine on there end and I have gone and checked to make sure all is ok under my account but still not working. Aug 22, 2014I can receive emails fine when home but as soon as I leave the house and (like right now) try and use friends wifi, I can't send anything. I get emails fine but sending just throws up an error message. The weirdest thing is, my wife also has a MacBook Pro, is also using the same version of Mozilla Thunderbird, and her settings are the same - and hers sends emails fine!
This is making me think it's not a Mozilla problem, or an ISP problem but some other setting that is particular to my MacBook but might be different in hers..
The error message I get is "An error occurred sending mail: SMTP server error. The server responded: EHLO requires valid address Contact your mail administrator for assistance."
And I've checked all the server settings, changed the ports, etc etc. And like I said, my wife's are the same and it works fine so...

Dec 14, 2008I can receive email, but when I try to send one I get an error. When I run the connection doctor, the CONNECTION STATUS is "mail was able to connect to the Internet". In the lower box, it says Cablevision "connection and login to server succeeded".
Underneath the Cablevision message, it says mail.optonline.net. It then shows that it's continuously trying to connect to the server.
