Blurry Font On Macbook Pro
Mar 28, 2012
Has anyone experienced a problem with blurry font on the macbook pro? I've installed Trends anti-virus protection and shortly after noticed that my font looks blurry. I checked my settings and nothing seems to have changed.

I just got some internet going again after having moved. I've had my new Octopus for a few weeks tho. So much to my surprise, I open up my gmail account and it's practically unintelligible. Some weird cartoon like font is my default font. As far as I can tell, all the default fonts are activated and all the settings point to the activated fonts, but this is driving me absolutely F__KING bonkers. Has anyone ever had this problem? Now to be fair, I did install some fonts from a semi questionable font disk a week or two ago, so maybe some rogue font has hijacked my web fonts.

I'm new to the entire mac osx scene.. The fonts on this look pretty blur when compared to windows fonts.
Is there any way I can tweak the anti-aliasing or font config to make it look better?
I might just switch to using Ubuntu on macbook if the problem continues.

I notice that the screen on my macbook air is not as sharp as my 4 yr old sony vaio s460. Is this the nature of the screen? I read chinese and there is a huge difference in sharpness with my vaio for small fonts compared to the air

I'm using an external display with my MacBook Pro, using the DVI/VGA adapter.
My problem is that the display is a little bit blurry. It's not awful, but for example the display of the MBP itself is very crisp and clear so that's what I'm judging it against. Looking at text on the external monitor, some of the letters are reasonably clear, some are a little bit out of focus, and occasionally there is a fairly clear line like on the vertical of a t or an l. I'm sure there is a pattern to this but I couldn't tell you what exactly.
I'm using a Samsung Syncmaster 940NW widescreen display (the cheapest one I could find!) I have the MBP closed and I'm using Bluetooth kbd and mouse.
I've noticed that none of the resolutions available on the external display match the resolutions available on the MBP. The default res of the MBP is 1440 x 900 - I can get close (1344 x 1008, 60 Hz) to this but it seems none of the options on the display is the same as the ones available on the MBP's own display. Is this the reason for the blurriness?
I can still do work even with it looking this way, but I wondered if there's anything I can do to improve it.

When I hook up an external monitor to the DVI output, and use both the macbook screen, and the external, the display on the external is blurry, and not very sharp. However, when I close the macbook, and run it in clamshell mode, the external becomes very clear, and crisp (like it should). I never use dual monitors, so this really isn't a problem, but want to know if its normal. 2007 Macbook Pro, 2.4, 4 gig ram. Gforce 8600M GT

I'm trying to increase the font size of my mac, but I can't find it anywhere. I should be really simple to do so I'm probably missing something. On windows you just right click the desktop > appearance and bang. How can I do it on the mac? Oh and I don't want to increase the font of safari or finder, i already know how to do that, what I'm looking for is a way to make all fonts bigger (including menus)... just like you do on windows, make all fonts 1.2 times bigger.

I just recently got a Samsung P2450H 24" monitor and I've connected it into my MBP with a mini Displayport > HDMI adaptor and with a HDMI cable. I've changed the default setting from AV to PC in the Samsung Monitor menu as recommended by others on this forum, and now I'm getting the maximum 1920 x 1080 resolution available on both Windows 7 and Mac OS with no overscanning issues etc. Everything fits on the screen. However, the text and font on websites looks a bit jagged and a bit blurry on Mac OS and I'm not sure why. If you stand far away, it's not that noticeable, but sitting at a reasonable distance (say 2 feet), you can definitely notice it. It just doesn't look that sharp in general.
People have said HDMI connections don't work that well on Samsung Monitors and I'd be better off with a DVI connection, but I can't see why there would be a discrepancy between the two modes. Which leaves the other reason - that this is an inherent issue to do with all Samsung P2450H models being affected with Mac OS, and not the cable itself? Has anyone experienced the same issues I've just alluded to? Perhaps I'm just being pedantic, but I'm pretty sure blurry/jagged text shouldn't be a characteristic of this monitor.

Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but after searching on these forums I couldn't find a topic already talking about it...
I just received my 15" Macbook Pro ( Mid 2009, the most recent update ), and noticed right away at just how blurry the screen is.
Comparing it to other laptops around me, and my desktops monitors... the text on the Macbook's screen looks blurry compared to them all.
Now Im making it sound like it's horrible, and it's really not... I just expected it to be a lot crisper and sharper.

So my problem with my Macbook Pro's pixels is many of them look blurry and are multiple colors almost like a rainbow. They also only show up on white backgrounds, not black. Some of them are in clusters and others are spread out. One of the clusters is very annoying and looks like a big blurry dot on my screen. I am hoping to take it in to the apple store and see what they can do about it because it seems like it is getting worse. I am assuming these are all dead pixels but I am not certain.

I just bought a Samsung XL2370 monitor to hook onto my MBP 15".
Problem: the image is pixelated and blurry green. I can slightly see the background though. Screen works fine on a Windows pc. Before I hooked up a 19" on my MBP and that also worked.
I tried the menu but no luck. And when I choose the auto adjustment a message appears 'not available'.

Recall, but can't locate it now, a freeware utility that converted PC fonts so that they were compatible with the Mac OS. This goes back a few years to earlier operating systems, both PC and Mac. I just downloaded 4 PC fonts I'd like to add to my current collection. Now running OS 10.6.3.

I've noticed that using Apple's Grab, or any other screen capture application I've tried, I always end up with slightly blurred text.
It doesn't matter if the capture is saved as TIFF or PNG or other lossless format, or as 100% JPG. Here's an example from Grab. The text doesn't look the same as it does on the screen originally - I've put an example there using Photoshop to show how the text actually looks to me on screen. You can see that the text in the screenshot is blurred.
Is there any way to get around this? Any screen capture software that can get me sharp text?

I know this is a small problem in the grand scheme of life, but why are the smileys/emoticons I try to save on my iMac blurry in their actions? The only way I know to save them is to drag and drop them to my desktop and then upload them to my Photobucket account.
Is there a better way? Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

I am having issues opening PDF in preview. Sometimes the txt comes through blurry making it unreadable. When I open the PDF file in Adobe Reader its views perfectly, so its just in preview this is happening. Now for myself it is not an issue as I just set my default PDF viewer to Adobe Reader but we have clients that use MACs and we may loose some business if the presentation is up to scratch.
Is there a way that I can make the PDF view properly in Preview. I have the original presentation so if I need to convert it differently then I can.

I just switched from Windows to MAC 2 days ago - a brand new Macbook Pro. Needless to say I love the design of the machine. However I am having a slight problem with the fonts in OS X. I have always loved Windows XP fonts, and to a lesser extent Vista fonts. But my first impressions of OS X fonts have been terrible - They feel blurry, and very very soft, and very unlike crisp and sharp nature of XP fonts. My question is - is there a way of adjusting the fonts in OS X to make it look more like Windows? I almost feel blind looking at the fonts right now in OS X.

I finally went out and bought iLife '09. So far it was great, I love iMovie, but I opened iPhoto because I needed to grab a couple pictures for an iDVD menu. I clicked on an event, and I saw all the photos in that event. All good. But when I go to click on a photo, it gives me a big blurry exclamation mark I looked into it further, and it seems like all of my events from 2007, and only 2007, are corrupted like this. What happened? Can I recover the photos?

Together with my MBP I also purchased a MiniDisplayPort to DVI to hook up my external monitor. The graphics on my laptop are really sharp, especially with the glossy screen. Yet, for some reason, the graphics on my Samsung-monitor are extremly blurry. Compared to the MBP my 22" Samsung 226 BW seems to be very unsharp and lacks colour.

For the last month, random icons have become blurry. Restarting fixes it temporarily, but it returs. PRAM reset does nothing, cleaning caches via Coctail is a temp fix. Disk utility is useless.

This is iMovie HD, I did search but didn't find a solution to it.
