I notice that the screen on my macbook air is not as sharp as my 4 yr old sony vaio s460. Is this the nature of the screen? I read chinese and there is a huge difference in sharpness with my vaio for small fonts compared to the air
View 24 RepliesI'm currently messing around in iMovie and notice that when I add the titles they seem to get compressed and blurry... it's kind of annoying considering that it doesn't happen in windows movie maker, is there anyway to stop it?
This is iMovie HD, I did search but didn't find a solution to it.
I dont even know how to describe what's going on with my screen so i took some screenshots of me playing WoW since that's where the problem is more apparent and one desktop ss.

I just received my 15" Macbook Pro ( Mid 2009, the most recent update ), and noticed right away at just how blurry the screen is.
Comparing it to other laptops around me, and my desktops monitors... the text on the Macbook's screen looks blurry compared to them all.
Now Im making it sound like it's horrible, and it's really not... I just expected it to be a lot crisper and sharper.
My pops brought his macbook (older one) cross the boarder and on the way back i guess they took it apart and now when hes using it the screen goes from normal to random colors ( like the white noise things on tv, but colors) i will take pictures.
dad bought a mac book pro and i really dont want to keep using this Shi* acer so im trying to fix his old macbook.
It just started this afternoon, every 15-20 minutes the screen goes blank once for less than a second and comes back. I haven't upgraded to snow leopard yet, haven't changed anything recently. It's only a few months old so should I take it to an apple store or is there something simple that might fix it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 13" MBP 2.53GHz, and I absolutely love it. However, I have one issue. I am using an Apple display port to DVI adapter to run the MBP in clamshell mode with my Samsung 221BW monitor. On websites or programs with a dark grey background, the screen flickers. The resolution is set to 1680x1050 (native) and 60Hz.
Does anybody else have this problem? Any ideas as to fixing it?
I have the standard Quick time application that came with my Mac Book Pro. I need to do sreen recordings for help videos on my website. When I use the screen recording feature from Quck time they videos come out blurry.

I purchased a 2.2 GHz Mac Mini today and connected it to my Samsung 720 p LCD TV via mini-DVI to HDMI adapter. I've already adjusted to remove overscan but all text on the screen is blurry. By blurry I mean it has ragged edges and looks "chunky." It's not good. Text looks clean and crisp on high-def TV channels. Photos look decent. Even YouTube videos (HD) look pretty good. But the text is awful. My display settings are 720p so it displays at 1280 x 720 @ 60 hz. If I plug in my Dell laptop, the same TV defaults to a 768 x 1360@60 hz display and looks great. I've tried all the display settings ranging from 480 p up to 1600 x 900.

Am I asking to much of my iMac (2.66 C2D with ATI 2600)? I quit other apps and made sure that I was not paging out to the HDD. How to improve the quality of the recording?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a VGA HP monitor that runs at a native resolution of 1680x1050 at 60Hz. I plugged the Mini in, some weird resolution came up. 1680x1050 didn't show up in "Displays". I downloaded SwitchResX, and set it to 1680x1050 at 60Hz.The resolution is now set, but the monitor is very blurry, and the dock extends beyond the bottom of the screen.I really want to get this working. I'm not quite sure how SwitchResX works so could anybody give me a hand?

I'm new to the entire mac osx scene.. The fonts on this look pretty blur when compared to windows fonts.
Is there any way I can tweak the anti-aliasing or font config to make it look better?
I might just switch to using Ubuntu on macbook if the problem continues.
I'm using an external display with my MacBook Pro, using the DVI/VGA adapter.
My problem is that the display is a little bit blurry. It's not awful, but for example the display of the MBP itself is very crisp and clear so that's what I'm judging it against. Looking at text on the external monitor, some of the letters are reasonably clear, some are a little bit out of focus, and occasionally there is a fairly clear line like on the vertical of a t or an l. I'm sure there is a pattern to this but I couldn't tell you what exactly.
I'm using a Samsung Syncmaster 940NW widescreen display (the cheapest one I could find!) I have the MBP closed and I'm using Bluetooth kbd and mouse.
I've noticed that none of the resolutions available on the external display match the resolutions available on the MBP. The default res of the MBP is 1440 x 900 - I can get close (1344 x 1008, 60 Hz) to this but it seems none of the options on the display is the same as the ones available on the MBP's own display. Is this the reason for the blurriness?
I can still do work even with it looking this way, but I wondered if there's anything I can do to improve it.
When I hook up an external monitor to the DVI output, and use both the macbook screen, and the external, the display on the external is blurry, and not very sharp. However, when I close the macbook, and run it in clamshell mode, the external becomes very clear, and crisp (like it should). View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently got a Samsung P2450H 24" monitor and I've connected it into my MBP with a mini Displayport > HDMI adaptor and with a HDMI cable. I've changed the default setting from AV to PC in the Samsung Monitor menu as recommended by others on this forum, and now I'm getting the maximum 1920 x 1080 resolution available on both Windows 7 and Mac OS with no overscanning issues etc. Everything fits on the screen. However, the text and font on websites looks a bit jagged and a bit blurry on Mac OS and I'm not sure why. If you stand far away, it's not that noticeable, but sitting at a reasonable distance (say 2 feet), you can definitely notice it. It just doesn't look that sharp in general.
People have said HDMI connections don't work that well on Samsung Monitors and I'd be better off with a DVI connection, but I can't see why there would be a discrepancy between the two modes. Which leaves the other reason - that this is an inherent issue to do with all Samsung P2450H models being affected with Mac OS, and not the cable itself? Has anyone experienced the same issues I've just alluded to? Perhaps I'm just being pedantic, but I'm pretty sure blurry/jagged text shouldn't be a characteristic of this monitor.
So my problem with my Macbook Pro's pixels is many of them look blurry and are multiple colors almost like a rainbow. They also only show up on white backgrounds, not black. Some of them are in clusters and others are spread out. One of the clusters is very annoying and looks like a big blurry dot on my screen. I am hoping to take it in to the apple store and see what they can do about it because it seems like it is getting worse. I am assuming these are all dead pixels but I am not certain.

Problem: the image is pixelated and blurry green. I can slightly see the background though. Screen works fine on a Windows pc. Before I hooked up a 19" on my MBP and that also worked.
I tried the menu but no luck. And when I choose the auto adjustment a message appears 'not available'.
As per title... Loud grinding sound, goes away on restart, seems to be happening more consistently in the past few days (noticed it last week for first time). The MBP is 3 years old I have an appointment at apple store for tomorrow, im pretty sure they'll just say that the right fan needs to be replaced (applecare warranty ended a month ago of course)
View 5 Replies View RelatedOnce anyone gets to test the new MBA out (next month?), if you can please post the results on heat issues. Eg the initial MBA in many cases was only usable at 50% CPU/GPU (for more than a few minutes) due to heat issues. Does the new one fix it? If so, it is effectively more than double the speed.. more like 3-4x faster if that makes sense. If GPU is much faster AND heat issues are fixed, this could be a huge performance boost..

I don't have to use my coolermaster cooling pad at all.

I put in a DVD movie I just bought, and when I insert it it just try's to run but eventually gets ejected.
I have been laboring for weeks to determine which macbook pro to purchase. We are new to apple having only enjoyed the iphone and ipad. We only have used windows desktops and laptops but love the look of the macbook pro's and imacs. We want a desktop replacement laptop. We just want to move it around the home and now and then take it out somewhere so we dont care about the 15 or 17 being too big. Dont want an imac as we do want some limited mobility.
Regarding the resolution issue I am drawn to the 17 because the 1900 x 1200 looks awesome. I am not sure if I like to 1440 x 900. It seems a bit blurry and not as sharp.Dont care for the antiglare as I love the corner to corner glass look and Ill have it indoors mainly. Any thoughts or experiences with the 1900x1200 vs the 15inch options as I have only used both for a bit in the local apple store?
I have heard the i7 2.66 in the 15 and 17 pros run extremely hot, too hot to even use on your lap. Is this true because I wanted to get the i7? I have had too many windows pc laptop fry over the course of two to three years from over heating and fear putting 2k into a good looking machine that will internally melt in a couple years. If it is just a design for the heat to dissipate out from the inside to be absorbed into the unibody that is fine if that is the case. Any body know, or does anyone who has the i7 in the 15 or 17 know?
So if the heat isnt too bad in the i7 I will get it in the i7. If the i5s run much cooler I will get the i5. If it is worth the money to get the 1900x1200 resolution I will get the 17inch, if not Ill stick witht he 1440x900 or the 1650x1050 or whatever that is. Is the higher resolution nicer and is the i7 cool enough?
My power connector strip has broken apart on my iBookG4. In the past, I would put it on, by using a safety pin, to short-circuit it to fire it up. It eventually froze up, I took the battery out and put it back in. Previously, in the past this has worked to get it back on. However, now I cannot get it back on.

My home folder is on my second internal drive. That's where my itunes library is also. I went to install a app from itunes and I got the message in my attachment.

My MacBook Pro 15inch makes a hollow sounding click/ping noise when I move along the track pad. It's NOT the motion sensor, that noise is more defined and pinpointed. This noise is random, sometimes occurs non-stop for an hour or two at a time every time I move the mouse, but usually occurs at random. Sometimes it also occurs when i have my computer on my lap or tilted and move it from side to side. But again, it is not the normal motion sensor noise.
I'm on my third MacBook Pro in less than 30 days. My first one corrupted all my files and my second one pinged like this one. I just need confirmation that this is actually OK and I will get a good MacBook and the money will be well spent. I think most of my issues stem from the fact that I'm new to Mac and just don't know what is normal.
