Windows On Mac :: I5 Display Driver Stopped Responding?
Dec 4, 2009
I installed bootbcamp today and windows 7 and after a period of time the following message would pop up after the screen froze and various artifacts would appear or the screen would be divided in half horizontally with artifacts in the middle.
"Display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
I don't think this is a bootcamp driver issue. This is an issue between ATI and Microsoft and has been going on at least since 2007. Not much to say about it at this point, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue with the new iMac's and windows?
The setup: MacPro 2.8GHz (Early 2008 model with 8 cores, 10 GB RAM, nVidia GeForce 8800GT, four internal hard drives of a total of 5.25 TB).
The symptoms: On Friday night I was booted into Windows Vista (64-bit) via Bootcamp as I had to do a bit of gaming not possible under OS X. Specifically I played All Points Bulletin (brand new MMO only for Windows). I found it to be an interesting idea to open another game at the same time (Warhammer Online). So I had both games running at once. After a couple of hours I received an error message ("Display driver has stopped responding and successfully recovered"). I had seen this message on a few occasions under Windows some months ago too. This time however the error message went away only to give me a slightly garbled image on screen. Psychedelic colours, quite funny looking in fact. I restarted Windows, and all looked normal again.
Then I opened browsers, word documents and so on, all normal. But as soon as I opened a game, the display was full of distortion and funny looking colours, dots and stripes, patterns vertically and horizontally. I also received the dreaded blue screen (which I had never had in Windows on my Mac since I installed it two years ago). I booted into OS X. All looked normal. Then I opened a game. Same symptoms as in Windows. I restarted. Opened only a simple YouTube video. Even then the display was making everything on screen impossible to see (and read). I did all the normal procedures (resetting PRAM, checking on logs for hints at what could be wrong and so on). I also ran the Apple hardware test, the extended version, which lasted two hours. It found nothing wrong.
I checked all connections and cables, I double checked the interiors of the Mac, no dust, all looked normal. I restarted the Mac into OS X once again, and this time I could only see the Apple logo during booting. After that it was mostly a black screen with some strange colour patterns. I'm writing this from another computer away from home as the Mac is all I have there at the moment, and I do not have access to any of its contents from here now (no logs to show you, no photos or videos). To me this looks definitely like the 8800GT has died completely, and I will bring it into an Apple retailer tomorrow for some testing, but I thought I'd just mention this here in case you guys should have any ideas. I would like to point out that I run iStat on my Mac and that I regularly check on the components temperatures and fan speeds.
Everything always look normal there (low temps in general, and fan speeds are mostly at their idle default settings, spinning up a little bit when doing graphically intensive tasks for example when video editing or playing a game). I did notice on Friday night that the power supply fan under OS X remained at its low idle setting all the time even when I tried to speed it up by using SMC Fan Control. The program managed to speed up all the other fans, but not the PSU fan. I do not know if that is any indication of something else going on. Sadly SMC Fan Control cannot control the GPU card's fan under OS X, but under Windows I do regularly control the GPU fan and temperature, and the card there has always been running between 60 and 84 degrees C.
When can we expect a windows driver for Nvidia GeForce GT 650M on the new macbook pro retina display? I want to load flight simulator onto it however I will require use of the macbook pro's (awesome) video card, roughly how long will it be until there is a windows driver released for it? Also, when will apple update bootcamp for the retina display (will it be released at the same time as the driver)?
I have had this MacBook 2.2 about three years or so. I have been using Safari Version 4 Public Beta (4528.16) for some time. It has been working OK, however recently I found a problem: Browser comes on as normal, it opens the email page but then, it stops responding to the clicks. I can not write a "new" message or anything else.
To deal with such situations I had some time ago installed the Camino 1.6.6,It works OK, a week or so ago I saw a prompt to upgrade my Camino to 1.6.7.
I did what one normally does, I down loaded it , pressed the button to 'install and run' it, but instead of doing what I thought it should do ,a dialoge box came up to tell me that some error has occurred, I should get in touch with the person who owns the computer. Well it did not say that in those words but it meant that.I am the person who owns it, uses it and I had put in the correct password, when it required.
It has happened a couple of times. I assumed It will resolve itself as glitches do,but no it has not. I have just tried it and the issue persists. Why has the Safari gone sour, and why I can not update the Camino 1.6.7.?
preview has stopped responding, menu items will open with right clicking, cannot access preferences, cannot find plist preferences file to delete it, have done repair disk permissions, now at a loss.
I was installing a new dvd player since my first one died a month out of warranty. I had the top cover/keyboard out, with the cable still connected. All of a sudden the keyboard stopped responding, and now I can't power on the laptop. Is it easy to damage the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard? I was somewhat rough with it, but I am worried that I will order the whole assembly and it still won't work? I cracked the cover while doing the install, so I do need one anyway.
Is there any way to power it on without a keyboard? Are they crazy expensive at the mac store? Can they hook one up and test it or do I have to leave it there? I have too much important data to let someone have access to my hard drive. This is incredibly urgent since I cant get to my work data, and I am self employed. I had to borrow a 10 yr old computer to get internet access.
I'm working with a Mac Pro (2x3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 4 GB RAM) and a dual 23" monitor setup. Quite recently the second monitor stopped responding, after disconnecting everything, moving, and reconnecting. (Everything was boxed lovingly in its original packaging and moved by gentle movers.)
It isn't the monitors both work fine in the first monitor port. The computer recognizes there is a second monitor attached, allowing me to access Arrangement options under System Preferences > Displays.
The power light on the second monitor comes on, blinking in the following manner (if it were Morse Code): dot dash dot....(then it is dark for about four seconds before repeating the same blinking sequence). It appears to have some sort of meaning.
My iphoto stopped working a little while ago, it wouldn't open. I would press the icon and it would jump, but nothing would happen. So I tried copying one from someone elses mac, same thing. it is there, all my photos are there but it will not open. So I found my discs and I reinstalled the programs, all the other ilife programs were and are still fine after the reinstall, but then again iphoto is not working. Just jumps when I click it and does not respond. I found a thread on here about a similar problem, so I followed the instructions and repaired the disc and then went to look for com.apple.iphoto.plist to trash it and its not there. I really am at a loss I don't know what to do short of reinstalling my entire operating system.
My "Caps Lock" key stopped functioning. Will not respond under the Keyboard Viewer either, though all the other keys do. Light will not come on, so I have to use the Shift key for each letter that I want to type in capital letters. I cannot find any on/off switches for that key under Help, or in System Preferences. Did I hit a key combinations somehow, that deactivated the Caps Lock Key? I have the bluetooth keyboard that came with my i7 IMAC.
Info: iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.3), 16GB/1T + SSD /Office 2008
Once in a while when I use my 15' MBP 2010 (GeForce 330M) on my bootcamp I experince screen blinking which then my system would say: "Nividia Driver Stopped". Have you guys been experincing this? Is there a way to stop it?
I know that the general consensus here is that the Mighty Mouse is a piece of shit. That notwithstanding, I'd appreciate posters refraining from engaging in further elaborations on that concept when replying to this topic (i.e., no comments like "Buy a new mouse," please).
At any rate, I purchased a wireless Mighty Mouse about a month ago and was very happy with it until the batteries apparently died. One day the pointer simply stopped responding and the green light on the bottom of the mouse was flashing. I replaced the batteries and the mouse resumed normal operation. Then, a few days later it happened again. I have yet to re-replace the batteries and have reverted to using my now eight-year-old Logitech dual-optical mouse (possibly the finest peripheral I have ever owned). Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Is this mouse having internal hardware or software issues or is it normal for it to devour batteries at this rate? System Preferences says that Bluetooth is maintaining the connection properly, so I am ruling that out as an issue. I would just say to hell with it, and use my Logitech mouse full-time, but my wife hates it and I payed seventy goddamn dollars for the Apple product.
I want to develop a "Virtual Display Driver" on Mac OS X which will create a (virtual)mirror image of original desktop on the same local machine i.e. at a time we can see two desktop on a single machine. When we will open the an application in original desktop same application is also mirrored in virtual desktop vice a versa. We can see two desktop in single monitor on a local machine.
I also want to know that is it require driver implementation or we can implement it just like an application?
I am using a MBP 17" (2010 model). The trackpad functions very well under Mac OS/X.However, under Windows Vista 64-bit, it does not behave as if it were under Mac OS. For example, even I did not click on the trackpad, it did it by itself. Is it a driver problem or setting problem? I know that under bootcamp, we can change the trackpad settings. If it is the latter case, could anybody please let me know the configurations/settings that allow the trackpad to behave exactly the same it does under Mac OS/X?
Got myself a 27" iMac i7 which was delivered today.
Been playing with it all day in OSX and initially installed Win7 but I the display driver keep crashing and I was getting artifacts on screen then the message saying that it had recovered successfully.
Having read that Win7 was not fully supported I assumed that this was the problem so installed Vista, but got the same problem.
Screen stalled, then goes blank for a second and then the error message in the task bar.
I have just ran all the MS updates and also installed the latest GFX driver from ATI to see if that makes a difference.
I have also just ran 3dmark06 and that ran OK but I was expecting the fans to kick in at some point
I was working on some home work in window Xp and I got the BSOD!!!well I lost my work, but there was a back up that god, know this happened while i was scrolling my mouse, and playing music in itunes as the computer stopped itunes stopped and crashed, Strange?I got a Screen shot of the screen and I'll post it, if any one has a suggestion to help stop this then by all means please help me I suck at windows
I have a Macbook Pro 15" , C2D 2.33ghz. I have the 7100 version of Windows 7 and everything worked perfectly except for the sound.
No matter which bootcamp driver I try or even Realtek's own vista one nothing works.
I downloaded the bootcamp 2.1 drivers and everything installed correctly , including the realtek ones. All the hardware looks fine in device manager but I dont hear anything out.
Should the default be speakers? It seems that it keeps the driver as microsofts own and it doesnt say anything about realtek. Could that be the problem?
I did not try the microphone jack yet but will in a few minutes.
Even if there is a hack , Im willing to try it. What is the exact audio chipset on this model of macbook pro?
I have a USB device with a windows driver and application that works fine under bootcamp. No native OSX drivers available for this device. Will I be able to install the drivers and run using Parallels?
I am on my new 27" iMac last night when all of a sudden the display froze and pix-elated for a second and then went black and a few seconds turned back on with an error message at the bottom right screen saying my display adapter had stopped . . . . .
I was in Windows 7 64bit Professional at the time. I also noticed that Apple is wanting download a newer version of Boot Camp which I will download tonight!
I went to the ATI website and found a new driver dated 4-2010 and downloaded it. All seems well but was wondering if anyone has had the same issue?
I'm trying to connect my Mac (OSX 5) to a flat screen TV. To do so I just bought a USB 2.0 to HDMI ® Display Adapter w/ Audio (1920 x 1080). The mini CD containing the DisplayLink software drivers that came with the unit won't fit in my Mac CD drive. I then tried to download the correct driver from the DisplayLink website, "DisplayLink USB Graphics Macintosh Driver" which appears to be appropriate for OSX 5 (at [URL]).
This proceeds through the installation steps, then bombs out with the error message that "The following install step failed: run preinstall script for DisplayLink software. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." In the hopes of finding a compatible driver, I looked for an earlier version of the driver on the DisplayLink site, but couldn't find one.
I have an old macbook (2 years ago). After I installed windows 7, there is no sound in the window system. Did anyone know what I can do to solve this problems?
I just bought a Vga to usb converter to use my dual monitors on my early 2008 mbp and i was wondering either if someone can write a mac driver for it or if i can emulate the windows driver in mac with crossover/wine etc...Using a application it created, so everytime i open the application the driver will start running.
I have an LED cinema display and a MBP unibody, and they have been working fine together for around 3 months. However, have just noticed that the cinema display magsafe connector no longer charges my macbook, it just says (Not Charging) in the battery zone.
I hooked my Macbook mini-display port up to my new Sony 32" TV and it worked fine for a month or so, but then it stopped working. Now when I plug it in the TV says there is "no signal" and the laptop doesn't detect the display. Nothing happens when I plug it in. I have tried two different HDMI chords, but only one mini display chord.
Does anyone know of a Windows Mobile USB Driver that would allow me to tether my HTC Kaiser to my MacBook Pro via USB? I've been tethering via Bluetooth and that works fine, but doing it this way runs the battery down on my HTC quite fast, especially with HSDPA active. Also, it would allow me to keep the Macbook Pro plugged in and have the phone charged/charging via the USB connection, so that I don't kill the battery on the phone. I'm sure I'm not hte only Windows Mobile user here and I'm hoping someone else has found a solution.
Got XP on my MBP which has an 8600M GT, i know the supplied Bootcamp Drivers for the GPU are terrible, so i want on laptopvideo2go, and downloaded the latest driver, but im not sure it installed right, so how do i check?
Also is the latest Driver the best version? I Know sometimes a previous version gives better performance, which is why im asking
When trying to install x64 Boot Camp drivers on my UMB, I get an error saying that my system is not supported. There is a way to force/trick the boot camp installer into installing the drivers anyway.
I have a windows 7 disk here ready to install. But my Snow Leopard disks are at Uni. Can I use Win7 at all without this disk? I can use it on sunday when I get back. Is there anywhere I can download my device specific drivers?
I installed Windows XP SP3 and it installed just fine. I went and bought the Snow Leopard OSX DVD from the Apple Store. The bootcamp installed, etc. now that I tried to install a game, it worked.
Upon start up, it's asking for Direct X, installed that as well. Then it said that it failed because I don't have the driver. I checked and the driver is non-existent for graphics.
