I have an LED cinema display and a MBP unibody, and they have been working fine together for around 3 months.
However, have just noticed that the cinema display magsafe connector no longer charges my macbook, it just says (Not Charging) in the battery zone.
Just a quick question, been searching for an answer the last few days, but been unlucky...I'm just curious, why has my Cinema Display standby light stopped glowing (from dim to bright then back again)? I'm sure it use to do this when i first got it - the display itself is only 6months old
View 1 Replies View RelatedI picked up a Cinema 27" last night. I hooked the power up to my 2010 17" MBP and noticed that parts of the back of the monitor got pretty warm. Almost hot even. I could touch it with my hand, but no question, it was pretty warm on parts of the back. Particularly to the left of the Apple logo if you are looking at the screen.
This was after the charged state was 100% and the laptop was just connected to the power cord from the monitor.
So, this morning, I went ahead and plugged the laptop up to it's normal power supply, not using the power from the monitor and, sure enough, the monitor is quite cool all over the back.
Has anyone else noticed this, and does anyone think that it gets a little bit too warm when the laptop is hooked up to the monitor power supply?
Another reason for concern is that there is no ventilation anywhere on this monitor, save the grill on the bottom where the speakers are and heat rises, and it really has nowhere to go.
I have a macbook bought early 08 that just stopped charging. I've tried two chargers and neither work. This happened once before but reseting the smc worked, now neither reseting the smc or reseting the pram worked.

My friend has a late uMB and his magsafe port is very very lose. Coincidentally, his battery stopped charging around 10 days after. His computer always runs on AC power and it says the battery isnt charging but it gains around 4% every hour. He thinks its because the lose port, but I think something else is wrong. just moments ago i plugged in my mbp and literally 1 minute or so later i hear a static fuzz sound (hard to describe) but if i had to give a similar sound it was exactly like the sound your radio alarm clock makes sometimes when your cell phone is nearby receiving an incoming call or text w/e, your alarm clock sometimes makes that sudden static fuzz sound.
well my mbp made that sound, wasn't as distorted as an radio alarm clock would make, but it sounded more precise. the sound came out of the left speaker for a second or so (no music or movie or any program with sound effects were active at this moment) i believe right where the magsafe is hooked into. and i was like "what the heck was that?? and was it from my mbp??" so i looked at the magsafe and sure enough the orange charging light was out as if it was unplugged (but it was still plugged IN) so i unhooked it then rehooked it and now it charged like normal again, still hasn't done it again while i started this thread.
any thoughts?? additional info i have to add is, i was swapping out the extension pieces from the smaller cord adapter, to the full 8 foot or so cord one. but when i switched out the small single piece i tugged in the opposite direction, i pulled up against the metal circle joint, instead of sliding left to unhooked the metal circle thing (w/e u call it). i felt the piece and its in full contact, i didn't loosen it or anything. could this be the random cause?
lastly, that static noise i heard that ended up causing the magsafe to stop charging. could that static noise damage my speakers?
additional info i also had my cell phone like 8 inches away from the magsafe. could the cell phone have the same static frequency or w/e that can interfere with the magnet/charging cycle?? i didn't receive any calls or texts when it happened. so i dunno if cell phones have frequencies constantly that could possibly cause my issue without having the receive incoming calls or texts etc.
i m a macbook pro(!3 inch) wid i5 pro user...suddenly one day my mac switched off n when i put it on charging the charger started blinking wid orange-green lights.noe der is no battry in it so i cant evn operate mac for settings.n its clearly not a charger problem cause i tried using othrs bt it was showing d same problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am actually trying to decide if to get the old 30" cinema display or not.I'm a graphic designer and my fear is that apple will never make a matte display...Here in Italy it's still sold in the apple store. I have the unibody macbook pro, and so I've been reading through reviews now for a week ... my biggest concern is the dual-link dvi adapter... I still see posts (August or September 2010) with people experiencing issues, even with the firmware 1.3!I wanted to ask you people if I should go for it or dig the 27 inch even though it's glossy... I have a few people in the office (also graphic designers) working on iMacs and got used to the glossy.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have two ac charger cords for my PB - the one it came with and a backup. My battery is about three months old and seems to be very healthy. The problem is that the cord arbitrarily stops charging (thought it was the cord, used the backup - same thing happens). The light on the cord where it plugs in to the computer goes off and I must unplug it from the power source and replug for it to start charging again, which it always does. I thought it was the outlet on the surge protector, so I switched outlets. No improvement. I thought then that it might be the surge protector itself, so I plugged it directly into another outlet, to no avail.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a white macbook a1181 and it stopped charging the battery, it runs fine off of the magsafe adapter and the orange light comes on the adapter when the battery is installed and when it's first turned on it shows the battery but says 0% then after a few moments it brings up the x over the battery like it's not even there. I have changed out the battery connector, got a new battery, cleaned the contacts on the magsafe adapter and the magsafe internal connector with alchohol and cotton swab.

I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!
I own 23 and 30" Cinema Displays. I like the 23 because everything is larger and easier to read than in the 30". I mostly work in Logic and love that I see lots of things on the 30" but the 23" is much easier on my eyes.Is there such a thing as a display with 2560x1600 (like the 30" Apple) but that is LARGER than a 30 inch so I can see everything bigger in Logic??? Maybe a 34 or 37"? Did a search but haven't come up with anything other than other 30" displays.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 17" MacBook Pro Early 2011. I have noticed some strange behavior when I am charging the laptop.
For whatever reason, when I close the lid and put the machine to sleep, no matter how long the machine has been asleep when I open the lid again the machine wakes up just fine and the login screen shows, and then the display goes right back to sleep. This is not the entire machine - just the display. To wake the display, I have to unplug the Magsafe adapter. The screen comes back immediately after doing this. Plugging the machine back in does not cause the laptop to go back to sleep.All updates have been performed (Software Update gives me no available updates), and other than this issue there are no other problems with the machine. To my immediate knowledge, I don't know when this started, though I do know that it has been intermittent for some time. I was hoping that the firmware updates that came a few weeks ago would fix the issue, but it seems to recently have gotten worse. I cannot pinpoint anything that would be causing this... and environmentally nothing has changed. The laptop is in near perfect condition from when I bought it, I keep it in a sleeve and a padded backpack when I'm not using it.. and unless I have something open that I am still working on I actually shut my laptop down whenever I'm not using it (living in Texas this is a habit I developed due to old laptops being damaged due to the heat build up in a trunk. I don't actually leave my MBP in the car though especially if it is hot out...)

I am looking for a display to use with my Powerbook G4 12". I am in love with the 30" cinema display, but according to technical support today, my setup is not compatible (supposedly, but the person on the phone didn't sound to sure). I have a mini DVI, but the 30" requires a dual DVI. I think the 23" display requires DVI, which I can attain with an adapter. Does anyone have suggestions for what I can use with my computer? The bigger the better for me. Also what do you think of the older (plastic case) apple displays?
View 1 Replies View RelatedPurchased a brand new 27" i7 imac a few weeks ago, display is awesome!!! I was using my old 28" LCD monitor from my PC and running dual displays on the iMac. The 28" LCD monitor annoyed me a bit because i could not get the same color/crispness/brightness that i got from the iMac. ( also it has a Matt screen and i am more into the glossy screens ) So i found a used 24" cinema display locally. Paid 600.00 and it came with 2 yrs of AppleCare. It is only 7 months old ( still have 5 months under orignal warranty ) Got home, hooked it up and it had a "hint" of yellowness to it, It wasn't a exact image of my iMacs display...I tried to calibrate it also, but it still had just a HINT of yellowness....Nothing at all major, but enough for me to be annoyed with it.

I am considering buying a Wacom Contiq 24 HD screen/tablet and would like to know if the Radeon 2600 will drive both or will I need a second graphics card? I am contemplating an upgrade from my 2.2 / 4G MBP with 128M VRAM, as i find that it often chokes on simpliest HD movie files created with a DSLR (weekish video), regardless whether I use it with or without the 30 inch Cinema display. So, I am curious how the new Air will run an external monitor, and whether it has enough juice to at least display the HD movies shot with a DSLR without dropped frames/jerkiness. (I guess I am asking two questions in one).

I plugged in the DVI cable, but was expecting there would also be a cable from the display into the wall socket? The display has four cables coming out of it, the DVI, USB, firewire and another. I clicked the display's power button, but only get a black screen.

I was first thinking of upgrading to an iMac with a 3.06Ghz processor and 27" display. However, I now think I might be ok staying with my MacBook and upgrading to one of the two displays;- The 30" Cinema display- Or the 24" Cinema LED displayAt nearly half the price I am leaning towards the 24" display. View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a new 24" LED Cinema Display today but once I got it home I found that it doesn't want to charge my MacBook's battery. It said "Not Charging" when I clicked the battery icon in the menu bar but I really thought nothing of it. Then, while I was transferring files from my external HDD to the MacBook everything just turned off completely. I feared the worst and when I tried booting my MacBook it simply would not turn on. It seems like the Cinema Display had bled my MacBook dry - it had no charge in the battery and I had to do an NVRAM reset to get it to charge again over the power adapter. Still when I connect my Cinema Display to the Magsafe it does not charge the computer, yet it does charge fine when I connect it to the MacBook power adapter. Seems like a faulty Cinema Display to me, but it was an 80 mile round trip to the store to buy it, I don't really want to have to go back. Has anyone else had this problem?

My MBP doesn't have MiniDisplay Port with audio and I don't think that the display has any ports to connect something else? how/if I can make audio work?

The cord coming out of the display is one big cord that turns into 4 cords (1. power, 2. firewire, 3. usb, and 4. the monitor plug that has 2 sets of 9 prongs and 1 dash). I just got a refurbished macbook pro 2.3 GHz Intel core i7 built in Feb 2011.Any ideas how to connect..On another note ... with my wireless apple mouse, what was once swipe down meant scroll down on the screen ... now it's swipe down is scroll up ... is there a way to reverse that?

The max resolution I can set the macbook to run at is 1280 X 800 and the Cinema display looks all blocky and not good - I know the macbook is not capable of running the 30" displays native resolution of 2560 X 1600 but I thought DVI could go up to 1600 X 1200? I installed the 30" cinema display software / drivers - Is there anything else I can do in Tiger to increase the maximum external display resolution?
