View 2 RepliesI know a lot of us have the Elgato Eyetv Hybrid and would love to use it on our Macs in conjunction with Bootcamp & Windows. Well I finally figured out how to do it! All I had to do is slightly modify some Windows drivers.
The hardware being used is very similar to the Hauppauge USB Sticks.
Elgato made 2 versions of the hybrid; the older version without QAM and the newer version with QAM. (It has been brought to my attention they also have a new version out with radio capabilities).
I have only been able to test this on the hybrid WITH QAM.
I was able to slightly modify the Hauppauge drivers which allowed the Elgato Eyetv Hybrid to work under windows using both the Windows Media Center and the standalone player by Hauppauge.
So here is what you need to do:
Go to Device Manager
Vista users: Right click on Computer > Click Properties > Click Device Manager
Now you should see some devices under "Other devices" with a yellow question mark next to them. Both should be called "EyeTV Hybrid" There are two because the USB stick has both a digital and analog tuner.
Right click on either device > Click Properties > Click Details tab > Where it says Property, scroll down to Hardware IDs
If the bold numbers match, these drivers will work for you. (If they don't match please provide me with your numbers so I can try and make drivers that will work for you.)
USBVID_0FD9&PID_0008&REV_0005&MI_03
Now we can close the EyeTV Hybrid Properties windows which brings us back to Device Manager.
Download both the modified drivers (an attachment below) and the manufacturer software here:
[URL]
Unzip and open the manufacturer software, navigate to the Drivers folder, and replace: HCWemBda.inf and HCWemBda64.inf with the modified drives you downloaded from me. (You also have to unzip and open the folder you downloaded from me).
Now go back to your Device Manager window, Right click on one of the EyeTV Hybrid devices with the yellow question mark next to it and click Update Driver Software...
Click Browse my computer for driver software > Click browse and navigate to the drivers folder from the manufacturer's software > Click Ok.
Do the same for the other device in Device Manager.
Now go to the manufacturer's software you downloaded earlier and double click Setup.
Finish the install and you should be Done
So I've owned Elgato's EyeTV Hybrid product for about 2 years (previously had the 250 model) and really enjoy recording sports games with it (plenty of Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox memories on my Mac now!).
But, all of a sudden, almost no channels are available. After a lengthy back and forth with Elgato's awful online email support, it turns out Comcast now requires a digital cable box for almost every basic cable channel except PBS and CSPAN. Who wants to record CSPAN? That essentially makes the EyeTV Hybrid a useless product for two reasons:1.) It forces you to get another digital cable box from Comcast for about $8/month2.) Prevents you from using the software or the EyeTV iPhone App to watch live TV, control recordings via guide, etc.
The only solution is to buy their new EyeTV HD product for $200 but you'll still need to pay Comcast for a dedicated box. I've asked Elgato's customer service repeatedly for a discount on the new product, since it's really my only option and because the product I purchased less than two years ago has been stripped to nothing. It's been 20 days and no response from them. I guess I'll just buy a Slingbox instead...recording ability or not.
So I bought the newest EyeTV Hybrid under the assumption it would (with little tweaking) operate in windows as well.
Which it doesn't.
The device is recogniezd as EyeTV Hybrid in windows, VID=0FD9 PID=0018.
I'm trying to install the Hauppauge software (4.6b) to use it.
So, I edited on of the .inf's so that my gf's comp now thinks the device is a HVR-980. And am installing as I write this. The hardware search/driver install bounced befor I edited the infs, but now says it got the 980 installed, requiring reboot... -> So, off to reboot.
I will report back to you.
Which one is better...? I have latest generation Macbook Pro and Mac Mini so do I really need the hardware encoding boost? Other than that, is there any advantage to the 250 Plus? It seems that the Hybrid does everything other than the hardware encoding and the Hybrid even has a FM Radio Tuner (not that I need it...)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was thinking about picking up an EyeTV 250 (not plus) or EyeTV Hybrid on eBay. I wanted to use it not for TV on my computer, but to digitize VHS tapes. Would the EyeTV Hybrid be capable of this or would the EyeTV 250 be higher quality?
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust bought an eyetv hybrid. I ran it through my dual G5 and sent it back to my tv and wasn't impressed with the video quality. It ran a little better on my new mac mini (I love the mini!!!) but was wondering what kind of performance I would get from the 250 when viewing HD Channels. Can I expect better performance from the 250 on HD channels or are the two models comparable? I noticed that the Hybrid seemed to lag somewhat when there was movement onscreen. Also, will I be able to get Comcast HD channels? I plan on upgrading to HD service soon.[My apologies if this has been addressed: I've searched through some of the threads and I didn't see anything make mention of the HD capability that is now available to 250.]
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to buy one of these, but I can't seem to figure out what the actual differences are?Is the 250+ basically just a 'Hybrid', but with more features?
And if so, what features?
Does anyone know if the picture quality would be higher on the EyeTV Hybrid vs. the Hardware Encoding limitations of the EyeTV 250? Like... I have a really fast computer, can I encode at top notch quality on the Hybrid, that way I get the maximum picture clarity? Basically what I'm asking is is the computer encoding superior to the hardware encoding in some way?
View 24 Replies View RelatedFor those unaware of what Hybrid SLI is, it allows you to use the integrated and discrete video cards that the higher-end MacBook Pro's come with together simultaneously to get you better performance in graphic-intensive programs and games. I saw an option under the "High Performance" power plan settings that enables Hybrid SLI, but that disappeared after installing the Boot Camp drivers. I found out through a quick Google search that it would be easy to bring the option back, but does the MacBook Pro really support Hybrid SLI now and do you think it would be safe to use it on the MacBook Pro? Hybrid SLI could definitely add a few frames per second when playing games, so it would be a nice addition considering how every MacBook Pro has a mid-range video card.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm looking at buying a Mac Mini to replace my current Media Center, and will probably go for an EyeTV Diversity tuner - just wondering if I install Vista with Bootcamp will the tuner also work with Media Center?
It looks identical to Hauppauge's WinTV-NOVA-TD which works with Media Center and EyeTV, so I assume it probably does if you install the Hauppauge drivers -
I have the latest build of Parallels 3.0 (build 5636). I use Windows Vista Basic through the Boot Camp partition. Parallels launches Windows with no problems. However, when I try to boot Windows Vista Basic through Boot Camp, the black screen with the green bar and the Microsoft Corporation copyright appears, and then before it switches to the next screen, I get a split second blue screen of death and then the computer reboots itself. I video taped the incident, but since the blue screen of death scrolls the message onto the screen, the computer rebooted before it could tell me what specific file may be corrupted.
I've already tried the following:
1. Booted the computer with the Windows installation DVD to do a "start up" repair attempt.
2. Created a new virtual machine.
3. Done a system restore to before the new version of Parallels was installed.
There was a time when Parallels froze and I had to "force quit" it. That could have corrupted something with the Boot Camp partition. Could that be the case?
I heard that ATI has enabled hybrid cross fire on Windows Vista.
Does that mean you can use 2 cards that are NOT identical?
Like my 2600 XT and my 3870?
Or does hybrid just refer to graphics card and integrated graphics hybrid?
This will single handedly help me decide whether I should get a mac or not. I'm a Windows addict but would like to buy a mac just to experience it for the heck of it. The most important thing is I want to have Windows 7 to work on it just incase I'm not happy with OSX.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed a gtx285 video card on my Mac Pro and all is fine, but I want to also run my windows xp installation on my Mac Pro (used Bootcamp) and I am not sure how to go about it. The card is already in the machine but if I boot up in windows it will expect to see the old video card and may hang.
my mac os is 10.3 and i would like to install Bootcamp so I can install Microsoft OS for my experiment. My question is, does bootcamp works on 10.3? and if does work where can I download the bootcamp for 10.3?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I started up my iMac the USB ports stopped working. It didn't respond at all. The weird thing is that they work at the startup when you choose between Windows/Mac OS X when holding in ALT. They also work in Windows, but not in OS X. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

ANyone got the new magic mouse working with windows? My old mighty mouse has hit the bin but only now have I realised, on an accidental boot into Windows 7, that I don't have an update to use the new mouse with Windows. Is there one available and how can I install it in the absence of a pointer?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile my eMac is in the shop (another long story I've told elsewhere here), I am using my work PC. I was working on a short story I had not yet saved in Microsoft Works Word Processor when it said it became unresponsive and had to close. I have been searching all over the computer for traces of this unsaved file.
Under C:/Windows/Prefetch there are files from around the time I lost the document and they are "PF" files. There is even one called WKSWP.EXE-25E36596 , which gives me hope it might be related to the file I was working on. When I open it in Notepad I get gobbly goop.
I have an iMac 24" 2.8ghz, 4gb ram, mid 2008. I have a couple of programs that only work under Windows, plus my wife doesn't want to learn Mac (sigh). I've been reading the threads (via mroogle) and looking at the documentation available from both Parallels and VM Ware and I'd like to know if I my understanding of how it works is correct. For Bootcamp, you partition your HD to create a bootcamp partition and OSx puts in drivers that allows you to install/boot windows in that partition and then you simply boot from that partition. This seems to be the closest to a genuine Windows environment. Right?
For Parallels/VM Ware, you install the application and then it runs in an OSx window and you create a virtual machine which installs windows and then it runs under OSx. Then you don't need windows drivers since Parallels/VM supplies the drivers as part of its own code. The virtual machine (64 gb or so) becomes your "hard disk" (I think) and OSx doesn't see the file system from other applications. Parallels/VM emulates the PC bios more or less? So I would need an OEM copy of Windows XP plus the service pack and also VM Ware or Parallels if I choose that route.
Has anyone had this issue? Install windows xp on boot camp SP2 everything installs smoothly but I cannot connect wirelessley to the internet. The internet works via OSX but not the other way around. I always get the following error when trying to connect:
"Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again."
I've tried repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, reinstalling windows, restarting, nothing works. I'm not real good at figuring out IP and such so I have no other idea what to do.
They are offering Windows 7 home premium for $29.99 to students, but I use Snow Leopard. I wanted to add the Windows 7 in my computer to use for bootcamp. So my question is.. is this an upgrade (do I need a pre-existing Windows XP or Vista software) or can I have nothing previously and it allows me to install from scratch?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI recently got myself a hard drive but because my father took it with him he used it for a while. When i got it back it was al f*cked up he offcourse needed to mess with it and made it partitioned...
So well no big deal, i plugged it in on windows, works fine. Tried on iMac, doesn't work... i said probably because it's partitioned. So i installed partition manager. Deleted the partitions. And made it back too 1. Made it NTFS and everything worked fine. But again when i plugged it in on my iMac it wouldn't work. It makes some crazy ticking sounds but it doesn't mount i cant even see it in disk management.
So well, i reformated in FAT32, same result.
I did everything what i could, bought disk warior or something but still it won't find it.
It works fine on windows, it doesn't on mac, i want too use it interchangeable between mac and windows
I'm running a new Macbook pro 15 in - 2.8 Duo with 9600 gt. Bootcamp with Windows 7 build 7100. My internal mic works in other applications, but for some reason, when I try to play Steam games, it doesn't pic up any audio coming through it. Tried +voice_forcemicrecord 0 in the Steam startup options. I have only installed drivers from the OSX DVD and one from Nvidia for the graphics card. Any ideas why this is happening? Other folks seem to be able to get their internal mics to work with Steam.

What doesn't make any sense is that when I try to install the same thing in parallels it works perfectly (but can't utilize all my system, hense using Boot Camp) I've been searching for days to find an answer but can't figure this problem out.
