Im running the windows 7 beta on my white macbook (early 2008), I have sorted out my audio issues and now Im getting stuck trying to use programs like macdrive to mount a readable (all i need) external usb hfs drive and internal hfs partition. can read the files within hfs explorer, but i can mount the drive.
Does anyone know whether the free virtual machine images Microsoft offers developers to test older versions of Internet Explorer will run in Parallels or Fusion?
This one part has never seemed quite right moving from PC to Mac for me. I'm most used to Windows Explorer - the old XP style, working in a single window. I find that with Finder, to copy/paste or move files, I can't always just select files and paste/copy them to the new location. and some things seem to require having multiple Finder windows open and a drag/drop.
Maybe I'm missing something in the process/workflow and its possible to solely work easily in a single Finder window? It doesn't seem to always allow you to do a copy or cut when you right click on a selection of files in Finder.
I have been trying to install IE7 on OSX10.6.4 using WineSkin and not being very successful. I need IE to access a website for my IACC program here in Australia and do not want to have to use bootcamp to use one website. Does anyone have a tutorial or a guide that will run me through the steps to be successful?
my sisters have macs. i have windows. i can never get their pictures to show up on my computer. i am using a web based email system. usually when i have a problem like that i can click on the html version and i can see what i was missing. but with them i never get that option nor do their pictures come across as being an attachment. what should we be doing differently.
There is a program that I need to run for my work, and it only opens with Internet Explorer. Everything I have found for the Mac says it won't run IE anymore. Is there any way to download and use IE on a MacBook Pro?
I decided earlier today that I wanted my boot camp partition to be bigger so I made a disk image of it with winclone and then proceeded to restore my HD to a single partition and then partition it again with boot camp assistant.
The partitioning went fine and then I had two partitions. I then went to restore my system with the mac clone image and this process went fine and I can now boot up into windows with the partition.
when I am in OSX the bootcamp partition will not mount. When I go into disk utility and try and mount it from there I get an error message that says "the drive cannot be mounted, try running first aid on the disk and try mounting again
Summary: Can't mount Win7 partition in OSX. NTFS-3G installed.
So I finally got around to installing Win 7 on my iMac through boot camp. During the install I deleted the partition BC created and reformatted. (I've now learned this is a bad way to do things and I should have just hit 'format' - as I understand that would have left me with the Boot Camp configuration all OK on the Mac end of things). I did the whole delete-the-ati-drivers nonsense and it's installed & running well on Win7. What I can't do now is mount my windows 7 partition in Disk Util so I can write some files to the partition in Snow Leopard (or mount the disk for VM/Parallels). NTFS-3G is installed. Is there a way to get this fixed so that I can accomplish without reinstalling Win7 (again)?
The partition "Bootcamp" can be seen from OSX, but when I restart and use the option button to select an OS, it just hangs up on a white screen and never loads the choices. Booting without the option button defaults to OSX. I have also tried to repair the disk in disk utility. I can definitely wipe the partition and reload XP, but I'd love an alternative. I've backed up the XP partition on a different HDD, so I'm ready to go. As this is my work rig, I have to get this resolved correctly.
I am trying to get my Macbook Pro (15" 2.53 GHz, 4GB) to play nicely with Windows 7. To get a valid copy of Windows I got in on the Ultimate Steal program last year. For those who don't know what it is, basically if you're a student you could get Win7 Pro Upgrade on the cheap. Before this I didn't have any copy of Windows on my laptop. I had to go through a huge pain in the ass process of installing XP 32-bit > Vista 32-bit > Vista 64-bit > and then upgrade that to Win7. I finally had a 75GB partition of Win7 64-bit installed, when booting up holding down Option I got to select either the Macintosh HD or Windows so everything's rosey.
I wanted to do some virtualization so I didn't have to reboot all the time so I grabbed an eval copy of VMWare Fusion. I kept getting an error about not being able to load the BootCamp partition, getting an error of Resource Busy. When I look at the partition in Disk Utililty the name of it is disk0s2 instead of BootCamp like it used to on my old Macbook. Trying to mount the mount fails and for some reason the partition shows as exFt. Going back into Windows show that it is in fact partitioned as NTFS.
Well not wanting to go through the same install hell that I did before I used Windows built-in functionality to create a system image as well as created a system restore disk. I blew away the bootcamp partition and launched Boot Camp Assistant, recreated the partition and stuck in the System Restore disk. Boot Camp Assistant restarted to install the OS and everything seemed to go well. I can no boot into Win7 and Mac but the partition on the Mac side still shows as disk0s2 and exFat. It *is* now mountable but it shows that the drive is completely empty (107 gb free, 1.8mb used). Another weird issue, the partition isn't 107gb, it's 80gb. And there is definitely more than 1.8mb used. Obviously VMWare still doesn't like this and I'm just stuck.
I can boot into bootcamp with no problems. I have been wanting to be able to open the bootcamp in Parallels. Here is the issue:
1. The partition 'disk0s3' is greyed out in Disk Utility. It is not mounted. Mounting does nothing.
2. For reference, the Windows 7 is formatted as NTFS. It is a Windows 7 64-bit install
3. Verify disk does the following: Verifying volume "disk0s3" ** /dev/disk0s3 Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: efbbbf Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk.
4. repairing does the following: Verify and Repair volume "disk0s3" ** /dev/disk0s3 Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: efbbbf Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.Error: Disk Utility can"t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
I have stuff on the Windows partition that I don't want deleted. I'm really stuck on this -obviously, I can just continue to boot into bootcamp, I just would rather open it from Parallels. I'm not sure what or if I made some mistake in setting up Bootcamp, I thought I followed the directions to that. I do know I formatted the partition as NTFS during the install - as I think Windows 7 requires it. I have tried installing NTFS-3G - it is installed, but didn't do any good when trying to mount the drive.
On my old macbook, I installed vista and everything worked fine. I just did that on my new macbook pro. It runs fine and all, but the Bootcamp HD isn't showing up on my desktop under my Macintosh HD. I went do disk utility and it verifiys the disk, but repair just does this:
I try to mount the image, but it fails and wants me to try repairing, which as you see in the picture doesn't work. Any ideas?
now that windows 7 (64) is working properly another question came up. Does win7 support fire wire because my external MyBook does not mount when I connect it to my iMac with fire wire 800.
Is the older IE 5.xx still available to download someplace?? I can't seem to find the download, but I sure could use it for a certain site I have to access.
This would allow me to get rid of VM Ware and simply have a bootcamp set up.
I have somewhat of a strange question regarding the capabilities of Safari vs. Explorer that I encountered recently on a visit to Continental Airlines website (maybe some of you have noticed the same thing). When trying to search flights for any given destinations, IE users will see an animated graphic that activates while the results are gathered but Safari users (at least those on 3.0.4) do not see this animation.
I need to run Internet Explorer. I have an old Windows box, but I'd prefer to run it from my Mac. I am having trouble understanding what I need to do. I have Fusion and a Windows install disk. What do I do next?
I've tried the Fusion web site, but there is no help there. My question is probably too basic.
Im sure for very few people request this, but I am looking to see if internet explorer might be available for 10.6? Anyone know where I could possibly get it?
