I have a 15" mac book pro with 4G of ram and 320G of HD.
Due to the internal HD filling up, I have decide to install a new internal HD myself which will be with me in the next few days. Installing the HD I have no issues with its the loading up of the new HD that I�m a little unsure of.
Until a few days ago my time capsule was a 320G Western Digital fire wire 800, which has worked well but is now full, this coupled with the need to back up my girlfriends Mac book I decided to buy a Time Capsule, which I made the default. However it took 24hrs to back up 200G wirelessly and the girlfriends Mac book via Ethernet is not going much quicker (only 80G).
My question is this, when I have installed my new internal HD would it be better to restore from the external hard drive or from the time capsule bearing in mind it took nearly 24hs in the first instance?
I am thinking of using either superdupper or carbon copy cloner will my external drive be OK to boot up from it is as followsFreecom 1TB fire wire P/N 31252
One day I couldnt wake my macbook from sleep with my firewire WD Mybook 500G connected, so I power off the macbook manually and start it up again. It then triggered kernel panic, and i found that my macbook resume normal if i do not connect the firewire external HD. I performed PRAM reset and even PMU reset but it still couldnt help.

I have a problem with Disk Utility , when trying to format an external fire wire drive.
I cleaned out the drive and proceeded to erase it with zeros. After this Disk utility will not display the subdirectory or verify, repair, partition, erase the disk. The main disk name is still visible, but I cant access any functions.
Error message says input output error.
DiskWarrior will not help, as the original directory is beyond recovery.
I suppose that I have damaged the original directory, and now I would ask the honourable forum if there is any remedy for my actions?
I have a Western Digital MyBook 1 TB external USB drive that has worked fine for years. I used it a day and a half ago under 10.7.3 with absolutely no problems. I then upgraded to 10.7.4, and now the drive won't mount. It spins up for a second or two, then powers off. Do I have a borked installation of 10.7.4? Would a simple re-install fix the problem? It seems highly unlikely to me that the drive just happened to silently die in the interim between its last use and the 10.7.4 install... What's going on?

I installed Windows 7 with my snow leopard bootcamp on my MBP yesterday and all seems to be running fine and dandy except when Im in windows, I plug in my external hard drive which is formatted to a mac and it makes the noise to show its been plugged in but nothing shows up. I have installed MacDrive on there so I can read HFS formatted disks but the drive just doesnt appear anywhere. I have plugged the same drive into my dell laptop with windows 7 and it appears on there so its not the drive (plus it shows up fine on the mac under SL anyway).

I am moving from the PC works (old Dell) and will need something larger than the old one I have for the long term. I have an old external hard drive case and a 250GB ATA hard drive inside I can use for the time being with the new Mac if I reformat it.
That said, I would like to get a drive that is at least equal to what is in the iMac with is 1 TB. I have read a lot of postings and believe I will get a Western Digital MyBook for Time Machine backups (unless someone has a better alternative). Is there any reason to get the Studio 1 or II (FW 800) over the Essential (USB 2.0) for my purposes - backups only? The price difference is $40-80 for equivalent drive space with connections being the difference.
It's not showing up in Device manager neither. Any ideas? Probably need some type of drivers?

It is great and I successfully moved the folder over and saved tons of space on my hard drive.The problem I'm having is that each time I turn on my computer and open iTunes for the first time it asks me to manually locate the iTunes Library Folder.I have gone in and reset and updated the physical location of the folder to the external hard drive but it still makes me go and manually find it before it will open.Once I do that it works fantastic.

When I connect it via Firewire 800 to my MBP in Windows 7 (Bootcamp) it is recognised but when I start copying (read or write) it just hangs after a while or becomes very slow. If I connect it via USB it works. Do I need some drivers ? If yes, where can I found them? I found this on WD but I have the previous generation i.e. without the digital screen. If I go to the software download, it says that the drivers won't work with the previous gen.

I've not Time Machine'd in about 3 weeks. After working fine for several months, out of the blue I get this error. I think it was -61? "Get Info" said it was read only. I couldn't figure out how to make it write & read. Now, out of the blue, I can't even mount it.I'm at a loss. My iMac is on it's last legs and I'm playing with fire. I guess the first order of business is to mount the thing but it just does nothing or IDK how to force it to do this?

2 - After installation of Win7 64 bit and problems with boot camp 3.1 drivers support then tells me my computer will not run windows 7 64 bit and sends me a list of non-compatibles. Sure enough mine is one.
3 - Several respondents help me and it appears that 64 bit will run but still trouble with keyboard/mouse.4 - uninstall 64 bit and install 32 bit and related boot camp drivers5 - numeric keypad on apple keyboard still does not work with office 20106 - just tried to update drivers for win 32 but it says more current ones are installed??? I recently Installed Windowns on my MBP via boot camp and I also installed a MacDrive 5 day trial version so I could move some files from the external (1Tb WD My book pro) to the windows side. Everything went smoothly and then after my file transfers on the windows side, then in a hurry I just unplugged the firewire cable and shut the mac down. Now when I start up in OS X the drive doesn't mount. I starts up ok and then the only thing I see is a task called "fsck_hfs" eating up my CPU and memory. The drive works fine in windows with Macdrive so it's not a HD failure because all of my files are still there and usable, It's jut that Leopard can't see the darn thing. So how could I get Leopard to see the HD again without re-formating and losing all my files on it?

I currently have a MacBook Pro and I am trying to put Windows OS on it using the Boot Camp option. I can download Windows 7 using my university's website, but all instructions for installing Windows using Boot Camp require using a CD. Is it possible to do it with it downloaded on the desktop, or do I need to put it on a CD/DVD somehow and then use that? I'm not sure if I can put it on a CD (with the stipulations of the University share program).

Now, I haven't actually used it, but the new taskbar just seems like its a blown up version of quick launch. You see pictures of what windows you have open instead of words. Big deal. I have to admit the whole dragging windows to the edge of the screen thing is sort of cool. But just that won't make most people upgrade. Its nice that it's not supposed to throw stupid security messages at your face all day, though. What's the huge difference between Vista and 7?
