Windows On Mac :: Can't See Icon In System Tray At End Of Boot Camp Installation
Oct 26, 2009Followed this guide [URL] and everything went smoothely, except when I came to step 24 I dont see the icon in the system tray. Also tried to run the program in the boot camp folder, but nothing happens. No big deal I think, but would be nice to have everything work properly.

Jan 16, 2009I have a 2.0ghz unibody macbook, and i installed windows xp on the boot camp partition, installed drivers, up until here everything was working fine.. i decided it would be a good idea to upgrade to bootcamp 2.1 and then suddenly the boot camp icon in my system tray went away,
and so did the nvidia panel and the sound no longer worked.. now im stuck and i have no sound. I tried reinstalling the drivers using the cd and it still doesnt work.. also when i remove my headphones there is a red light coming from the jack.. how do i get my sound back?

Mar 23, 2009Apple thinks there is no need for a button on the tower. Now I can't open or close the CD tray without the mouse. Via right click I can open it at least but to close it, I have to push the drawer, which I'm not a big fan of, as the machine is brand new and cost me 4k.

Dec 27, 2009Hi, I just got a new Macbook for xmas. Turned it on today for first time and downloaded Google Earth. I somehow dragged it into the Macintosh Hard Drive. Now when I click on the Macintosh HD icon, and the window opens up, I see the Google Earth icon to the left of the search box. When the arrow hovers over it, it shows the path to where the app is saved. If I click it, it opens the application. Its also in the Applications subfolder. I want to keep the program but how do I get it off the top of the HD window?

Oct 21, 2010The current behavior of the Finder icon in the dock first brings Finder windows currently open into focus. I often wish I could click the Finder icon, and have a new window open. However if each time it was clicked, it brought current windows to focus, but then also created a new window, this would be annoying. So how about this:
If the Finder isn't in focus, one click will bring it into focus. The next click, assuming now that the Finder is focused, creates a new Finder window. Also, it could even be conceived that a double click of the Finder icon, when out of focus, would both bring current windows to focus, and then create a new window directly.

May 30, 2012Just recently Finder has stopped behaving as it normally would. Clicking the icon doesn't seem to launch the finder window. I have to right click the finder icon and then click New Finder Window. Sometimes there is no response for sometime and then finally it does open a window. If I click finder when a window is open it does not shift focus to finder anymore.

Software :: IDisk Icon Eject Button Missing In Sidebar Finder Window
Mar 2, 2006I am a pretty experienced Mac user but have never ran into this problem. My iDisk icon in the sidebar of the Finder window doesn't have an eject button. Any disk or other removable drive gives me the eject button but not the iDisk. I am running on the latest version of Tiger (10.4.5) and a 12" 1.25GHz iBook G4 with 1.25GB Ram. I know those stats really don't make a difference, except for maybe the OS, but just in case anyone was wondering.

Jan 1, 2011 my first question is: where can I get a quick start to "take control" of my brand new used G5 late '05 2.3 dual core Power Mac? I'm accustomed to going to device manager to check on things, update or disable drivers, partition, reformat, set selective start-up, you know; all that. I bookmarked something like Switch 101 and am left shy of the depths I wish to go.
I've fiddled with an acquaintance's MacBook Pro and found it somewhat intuitive, so navigation in and around the apps won't be too difficult to switch over to but how can I do something like pick and choose what I want to show up in my task bar or whatever the Macquivalent is.
And secondly, F12 opens the Dashboard not the DVD tray. Option F12 doesn't help. Unless I need to literally "hold F12 until the open tray appears..." or something like that. That hasn't worked either.
I'm sure I won't regret the switch. I've been threatening to for the last three or four years; five of which is my level of PC-ing.

Windows On Mac :: Window Xp OEM / Unable To Boot
Oct 1, 2010I am having trouble loading window XP pro OEM sp2 using Bootcamp on my macbook OSX 10.5.8 It gets through copying all the files and reboots successfully through to the install window and the setup program for windows (where it displays various marketing info and has dot buttons down the left hand side). It says it will take 39 mins to setup but the counter never changes and I have left it up to an hour and nothing happens although once I did get a disk error message (something about cleaning the CD - can't remember exactly). I am doing full installs and have tried FAT and NTFS. At first I thought it was because it was an OEM but it is a Microsoft OEM and other people online seem to have no problems installing and if there is a problem it seems to stall well before the setup window. Is this a dud CD or version of windows or am I just doing something wrong?

Dec 25, 2009My CD tray is stuck in my powermac G5, I keep pressing the button to eject it on my keyboard but nothing happens, I've tried restarting it. Unfortunately there isn't a CD in the drive so I can't drag the icon to the trash which is what the apple support site said, but I just want to open the drive to put a CD in? All the keys on my keyboard work fine except that bloody eject button. Its one of the older keyboards, not the flat ones that you get now, its the version before that.

Mar 16, 2012Just today, my TSST DVD writer tray will not stay closed during or after booting my G5. The "Eject" key will operate it normally, but a few seconds after I close it the tray will open again... and stay open. Same thing happens if I manually close it. No disc is in the tray. This problem is 100% repeatable. I reset the PRAM in my G5. I have "Patchburn v 4.0.5" software for the TSST CDDVDW SH-S222L installed, and I re-installed it but with no effect on the problem.

Feb 10, 2010So this is a new thing that started happening, and has got me stumped. When I hit Apple key+N in Safari, a new browser window will open, I will be switched to the Finder, and a new window in the Finder will open up. This new window in the Finder is the Computer window, the one listing the HD, the network icon, and any attached disks. It is not the same window I would get by hitting Apple+N while in the Finder. Only seems to do this while in Safari.

Dec 5, 2010For future reference: what is the best way to get open the CD tray (if installer disc needs to be put in) if your system won't boot? I thought I would ask in case this situation arises. I'm not using a Mac keyboard and there is no eject button on my keyboard. It's a G4 with mirrored doors but I don't see any buttons to eject the tray.

Sep 12, 2008I've been looking and looking and couldn't find anything. The DVD tray is stuck in the open position and won't retract. When I hit the eject button, it moves like it's trying, but only travels about 1/4". I tried gently nudging it in, and that didn't work, so then I tried a bit firmer and combos of that plus tilting it. Nothing's working.
Also, I figured that maybe it just crapped out on me, so I'd get a new one, but I don't think you can get the drive out if the tray is open, because you just pull the housing straight out, right?

Mar 19, 2009 I've searched the forums pretty thoroughly, but no one has listed these exact symptoms.
I've got a PowerPC G5 running 10.4. After four years of dedicated service, my Superdrive gave out, so I bought a Sony drive (SONY DVD RW DRU-842A in profiler) to replace it.
Here's the trouble:
Any time the machine goes to sleep with a disc in the drive, it won't eject when I wake it up. I have to restart, then eject. Other than that, the drive works beautifully. If this question has been answered elsewhere, please redirect me there, sorry for the repost.
Speaking of sleep, when I put the machine to sleep through the menu it goes fully to sleep (no fan/other noise). But when it goes to sleep on its own, I can still hear the machine churning away. My roomate has a newer Mac Pro that doesn't do this.
MacBook :: Three Engravings Near SuperDrive Tray?
Jun 8, 2009I bought this MacBook on eBay a week or so ago, it's showing as ~8 weeks old right now and it was new in box with all the wrappings when I first bought it. I haven't used the SuperDrive at all until today when I installed Microsoft Office and the Garage Band sound pack. I'm positive I didn't cause this damage; one because I have taken care of this MacBook like it was my baby, and two because I don't see how this would have been possible by me. The picture is kinda hard to see, sorry it was difficult to try and get a good steady shot of it. I'm clueless as of what to do about this.
