I was went onto updates and clicked install to a new Java update. Then apple update froze with a multi colored circle. I use force quit which worked, but some other apps wouldn't open after this and just sat there bouncing on the dock for ages. So next I selected restart from the apple menus and it was going through the shutdown process but didn't complete and just left my desktop sitting there. After 10 minutes, I help in the power button to manually shut it down, now it has restarted its all fine. What do you think could have happened, I have had it on for the past 3 days only sleeping it.

My 2 year old Macbook pro has started to run really slowly, with the multi coloured pinwheel appearing whenever I try to do something. I've taken this to the Apple store, and have been told that it's either the hard drive that has given up and will need to be replaced, or that it's the cable connecting the hard drive to the laptop.

My HP CS5200 all-in-one prints fine under Snow Leopard but OS X doesn't "see" the scanner. I need that scanner. I have been meaning to get a Wifi-enabled printer so this appears to be a good opportunity to do so. A few searches for all-in-one printers and Snow Leopard reveals that there are a lot of issues out there. I'm hoping to go out and buy something that works right out of the box today. What models/brands do you guys have working on 10.6 in scan and print mode now?

Which is annoying since the old scroll bars on windows are gone. I have them all selected to be ON in system prefs.Do these features not work on macs that aren't new with a builtin new magic pad?

And I know how to boot windows and everything from experience with my macbook, but my problem is basically this; When I try to install multi-disc games on the windows OS, whenever I get to the point where I am supposed to "insert disc 2" the eject button on my keyboard will not work, is there any workaround for this, I am running XP... View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my (first edition) Macbook Air to Lion. Unfortunately, I've found that two-fingered scrolling does not work in Mail and Safari (and probably other apps as well). When I try to scroll with two fingers, the cursor won't move at all. Other two-fingered gestures, such as zoom and pinch, work fine. I checked the system preferences under both Trackpad and Keyboard and didn't see anything useful.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I have an event, starting on Friday, going on Saturday and and finishing Sunday, is it not possible to get this to show in the month view? I know it shows up in the weekly view, but it would be more helpful for me to have it up show up like this so I can get an overview of the month's forthcoming events. Or if it, are there any mods/addons etc that can enable this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of making the jump and making my first Apple computer purchase. Time machine will be a welcome native backup solution, especially since I can do it over the network automatically. However, I've read that Time Machine naturally requires HFS+ formatted disks. But I will still have my Win7 laptop for gaming purposes, and of course that requires NTFS or FAT32 for writability. My question: Can I just take a TM compatible external drive, split it into two partitions, and then specify that each computer backup onto its own partition with its own file system?

I thought after upgrade to Snow Leopard, older Macbook Pro can also have the newer multitouch gestures as those newer Macbook Pro?
I didn't see any options in the Trackpad in System Preferences.
I've got a problem with my address book that seems a little more complicated than I know how to solve. I opened my address book today, and it doesn't show any of my contacts. I also can't create contacts (I click on the little plus sign, and nothing happens).
Obviously there's a problem with the registry. What's strange is that I know that the addresses are still all there because they show up in my Skype, and in Facebook import (from Mac Adress Book).
I tried using time machine, but no avail, I also reinstalled Address Book, and nothing happens.
My Ti Power Book finally died after 13 yrs service. I bought a new MacBook Pro 15" last month, running 10.5.8.
I have a full backup of the old computer on an external drive and I connected it to recover some of my data. When I tried to open the old Address Book (V 4.0) it told me this version will not work on the new PB. Is there any way to open this or print it out??

View 1 Replies View RelatedSnow Leopard 10.6. Address Book SELECTIVELY allows deletion of a multiple contact entry. The updating of the contact database, as as function of the installation of Snow Leopard, produces/creates/brings to your attention, multiples of some contacts that did not exist prior to the upgrade. Most duplicates or triplicates you cannot delete. Some will allow you to delete one but not the other. You can delete them using MobileMe or on the iPhone but not by using the Address Book.

Thinking about getting mobileme but it will be useless without address book.
I am experiencing a funny behaviour with Address Book. In First and Last name field if for eg: I have Robert Brown, the system adds either again a Brown or part of his email address. I don't know how to resolve this issue.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone can help? I bought a Macbook pro last weekend, but when I try to use the mac mail,I cannot find any way to input an email address.
1、update my gmail contacts to the macbook addressbook
2、Synchronize the local addressbook to icloud
3、Open the mac mail, and then create a new mail
then comes my problem,no matter what I type , the address has never show. As I know , the correct result should be:1、Just need to type a few main words in the "sent to" column ,os will search the local addressbook and show the corresponding address for user to choose.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOS 10.5 - Cannot find Finder. I was helping a friend today. I installed Leopard for her successfully last week on a Powermac G4. I installed a LaCie d2 Quadra 500GB backup drive and today I partitioned into 3 volumes. Backed everything up with Carbon Copy Cloner. and everything worked well. At the end, I ran Software Update which installed updates for Quicktime and iTunes. That's when the problems started. First, Spotlight started indexing all the backup volumes. I tried to stop that but couldn't. Then Finder was not responding, I tried to relaunch but it did not help. All I get is the coloured beachball. The dock is there, the applications work, but no Finder.
I booted from CDs, ran Verify Disk and all was fine. Tried to run Verify Permissions, and that was taking a long time (This seems to be a Leopard problem in general). I read online that this operation below in Terminal works, but I am not sure exactly how to type it as I have not used Terminal before. I also don't know if this is the right solution. Do I type exactly as it is below or without the quotation marks. I typed it without the quotation marks.

I have some strange colored dots on my screen that will not go away.
The weird part is that they are not stuck in place but seem to be shadows that are not coming through the right color.
I am new to macs so if someone could tell me how do take a screen shot I will put it up so you can see.
What does they mean. How could I get rid of a window?

But when I remove it, whenever the partition get's unmounted (at shutdown or manually trough disk utility), OS X throws a kernel panic. So now I have a permanent label attached to my bootcamp drive.
