I was told there I a option/file in OS X that is responsible for synchronizing OS X with Domain settings.I have OS X machine that is working on Domain. And it should import printer setups, finder setup etc.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed Lion 10.7.4 named my computer "fx6800". Then I joined my Windows 2003 Server domain with no problems. After that I could not log on to domain with one of my windows 7 machines because it had the same computer ID. Ok no problem I re joined the domain and re binded with the Win 7 machine and then un binded my Mac Lion machine then re-binded with a different computer ID. No problem both machines can log on to AD with separate computer accounts. Then I notice when I opened terminal it was showing the old computer ID. No problem I fixed it With sudo scutil --set HostName "new host name".
Then when I go to select file sharing in the description to the right under File Sharing On: it shows the path to tha machine is fx6800.domainname.local which is the original computer ID. Also when I select remote login and I believe it shows username@fx6800.domainname.local. I have searched for 2 days and have not come up with anything. I am sure if I reinstall everything it should fix it but I would like to save the time.

I have an Transmit brand enclosure, in which I have installed a 30GB HD. When transferring files, mostly big files (200MB) the system (Mac OSX 10.4.11) hangs. I have to restart it, to use it properly! After putting the drive to other macs, I realized that there is no problem with other computers. Therefore this must be a Mac OSX system issue. Is there a way to check this, make a system examination though some utility or? Where do I start?

When the iPad with 3G launched on Friday in the U.S., many users realized that the ABC Player application, which allows users to view episodes of the network's most popular shows, does not work over the AT&T 3G network. While there were initially rumors that this restriction was due to AT&T -- which in the past has prevented services like streaming, MMS and tethering -- the wireless carrier played no part in the missing feature. While AT&T eventually alloed VoIP calls and MMS over its 3G network, it has not yet allowed tethering.
As noted by Engadget, the restriction in the ABC player was self-imposed, as the developers chose to skip the option of providing a 64 Kbps stream for 3G playback. That decision is why the ABC application does not allow streaming over 3G, while Netflix and YouTube do, albeit with lower bitrates.
"You must include a low quality stream of no more than 64 Kbps for your app to resort to when network conditions demand it, along with the higher quality streams you want to deliver to your customers when the network can support it," Apple's rules in the iPhone OS Reference Library state.
But the restriction may not last for long. Silicon Alley Insider reported Monday that ABC is working on a 3G-compatible version of its popular streaming video application for the iPad. An ABC representative told the publication that the lack of 3G support was "based on a variety of business and technical considerations."
Both the ABC and Netflix applications were released for the iPad when the Wi-Fi model first launched in early April. While both are free to download, the Netflix software requires a subscription to the movie rental service.
I've transfered thousands of CD's into my itunes library on my desktop G5. Sadly as this is a pre OS X 10.5 i cant easily transfer this library to my other mobile devices ie macbook, iphone ,ipod etc all of which are much newer. This has created a situation where my collection is fragmented.best way to get it all sync'd up and available on all devices.

When I take a screen shot, it automatically makes it save as a .PNG file with is too big to post on the web in most cases. I was wondering if there's a setting I can adjust to make it default save as a .JPEG image. View 3 Replies View Relatedmy 3 years old mbp is beginning to show its age, so I decided to purchase a new Macbook pro 15inch i7.The problem i'm facing now is how to move all my files, applicant, and settings to the yet to be my mbp.Currently, I have an 500g hard drive on my 2007 mbp, and will be buying a seagate momentus xt 500g for the new mbp.
When I upgraded the hard drive for my old mbp, I used super duper, which worked flawless. But would it also work flawless if I were to backup my current hard drive on to the seagate momentus xt 500g and put back in to the new mbp?And would that affect anything?Also, would time machine be a better option?
Did a search about synchronizing and the existing threads are a bit old, so I'd like to reopen the discussion. Here's the situation: I would like to have a setup where my Macbook Pro is completely in sync with my Mac Mini. Emails, files, settings, favorites, etc. Ideally, I want complete transparency in that I can work on stuff on my laptop, shut it down, come home and sit down at my Mini and be completely ready to continue working.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make some DVDs using iDVD. I want to play The Dark Knight and Benders Big Game at other locations. Anyways, I'm trying to make separate discs, not one disc for both movies. When I try to drag the file to iDVD, it says that the file is too big and to play with encoder settings. The encoder settings are already at best performance. In Finder, the file is 808MB, yet iDVD claims it is 8.08GB. I know for a fact that the file is 808mb, not 8.08GB. The file was .avi, so I converted it to .divx, and this still didn't fix it. I also tried the other movie which is .mp4, and I had the same problem.

I used to use Sync Toy on my windows PC to synchronize my selected hard disk directories to a USB flash drive. It meant that I could change, delete files on either and when I ran Sync Toy it would update both ways - was truly great. Is there something similar (or better) for my MacBook Pro running OS 10.7?

Almost 1gb a minute. The video comes in 1920 x 1080, apple prores 422, 29.97 fps. I want to edit the footage and then export the timeline using a setting that will drastically reduce the file size.

I bought a MacBook Pro for my wife yesterday and want to share calendars on my MacMini so that we avoid ":double-booking", which seems to happen all too frequently. Both machines are running OS 10.9.3, are signed into the same Apple ID and are — think — connected iCloud. The address books seem to have been shared. Internet connection is fine. But I cannot get the calendar up on the new computer. I have no problem with iPhone and iPad. So, obviously, I am doing something, and probably something very basic, incorrectly. But what???
View 3 Replies View RelatedWell 10.5.6 has been so much fun and full of surprises - like a box of chocolates Gump would say. For some reason, the sleep function settings won't reset. I had my iMac set to sleep the HD after about an hour. I changed the setting to never, but it still wants to sleep. Never had any trouble like this before the update. My install is almost virgin as I had to reinstall because of the update. I don't have any add-ons running or anything like that. Can I delete the .plist file for these settings to start over?

I've searched this forums, and the internet but it seems like there's no solution. Carbon Copy Cloner, and Super Duper don't allow the flash to be the target disk, and if it does, it can't be the source. [URL]. For whatever reason, I don't know it seems like a simple thing, but I don't know how that works.
I also found the automator script "sync folders", which is what I wanted, but it seems to have flaked out on me. It didn't work at first, not sure what I did, but it finally started working, but then it stopped again and keeps giving me this error. "Finder got an error: The operation could not be completed because there is already is an item with the same name. (-48)" and from what I've searched in Google there is no solution.
I have problems with synchronizing iCal with iCloud calender accounts on my Mac Pro running OS 10.6.8. (Error message "HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden" pa handlingen CalDAVAccount RefreshQueueableOperation.) It works fine on iOS devices.

I have an old iBook G4 laptop and a newer iMac (OS 10.5.8). Since getting the iMac, I've neglected the laptop and so the info on it is old. I would like to synchronize these two computers and bring the laptop up to date with the iMac. Basically, I'd like to erase the laptop and then have it be a copy of the iMac. Given that I'm not very techie, how do I do this please?! And how long would it take? Thanks for any help.
View 13 Replies View RelatedWhen I sync one audio file with one video file the video file is always placed in the primary storyline and the audio file is always placed under it. And the new syncronised clip is named afte the video file.
when I sync multiple audio files to one video file. It seems to be random what file endsup in the primary storyline of the new compound clip, most of the time is seems to be one of the audio files. This is troublesom as the syncing acuracy is then limited to the frame as the smallest incrament of adgustment. Also, it menas I have to manualy change the names of my now syncronised clips as the names are not consistant making sorting dificult. (This all results in a lot of time spent fixing this behavoir and realy dampens the advantages of the sync feature.)
the video should not be the primary track in a new syncrosnised compound clip and I can't find any link between my behavoir and the resulting choise of which tile is the primary sortyline track.

Why are Apple applications are so much larger than similar Microsoft applications. Some examples: Word -12.7 MB and Pages - 273.4 MB: Excel - 11.7 MB and Numbers - 138.6 MB. Both Word and Excel are sophisticated programs and I would have assumed they would be large, and that since Pages and Numbers are relatively new so they would be lean, but the opposite seems to be the case. They all work well except Numbers is slow. Is that a function of size? Is obesity epidemic in programming as well as programmers?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a G5 Duel 2GHz Power PC, Recently I was losing the time, date and wireless settings so I assumed as my machine is now 4 years old the PRAM battery was up for renewal.This has now been replaced but I'm still losing my settings, not all the time but randomly, sometimes I lose my wireless key sometimes I lose time and date sometimes both, this can happen daily.
I have removed the (New) Battery and checked the voltage and it reads 3.6 Volts, I haven't checked this under load though, so presuming that the battery is OK, what else could cause this.. a failing System Board?
I closed the terminal window that I entered the command into but from what I recall I typed: chmod 444 I may have put in ~/Library/Preferences or I may not have, I did push enter before finishing the line though Now when I try to set it back to not showing hidden files I get this: [URL:...] Could not write domain com.apple.finder; exiting Anyone know how I can undo whatever it is I have done?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!

Am i correct in assuming that if I restore it to the origianl factory settings then it will erase his settings. Also will i need anything erlse with the start up like serial numbers, auth codes etc?
