Software :: Unable To Know About Fax Preferences Gray?
Feb 24, 2009I was just setting up my mom's fax preferences. Clicked the option to show fax status in finder bar, then clicked "sharing" tag. The "fax" tag went gray, and now I cannot access it.

I am running OS X 10.4.11 on a "pod" iMAC. When I open system preferences and click on network, I get a pop up window that states my network preferences have been changed by another application. When I click on the green "OK" box the pop up goes away and comes right back. This is driving me crazy because when it gets into this cycle it's almost impossible to get out of the preferences panel or even check the settings! It's like it gets into a closed loop and won't let you do anything.

I changed my history items to be removed every day from every week but don't think that would be the issue.Â

My macbook pro won't boot past the grey screen, I've tried reseting PRam, running fsck from single user etc to no avail. All signs would point towards a hard disk failure, but the curious thing is that it sometimes mounts in disk utility when booting from the install CD, so theres a little life left in it yet! I have fairly recent backups of most of my files, but there are a couple I've been working on in the past few days that won't be backed up. So my question is this - is it possible to copy files from my mac HD onto a external drive through the terminal/disk utility while booting from the CD.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I've got a powerbook G4, thats 8 days past its warranty. Conveniently, it now won't turn on. It won't wont boot from CD. If I turn it on, I get a gray screen that usually just turns my computer back off, if thats not the case I get a screen that shows the finder icon and a question mark and then turns off.
All it will do is boot into open firmware mode. Currently the install disc is inside of it and I've tried booting the cd using "cd:, bxi" and "dir hd", and it can't open both. Does anyone know how to wipe the HD, and start the installer using firmware? Otherwise, I think I'll have to take out the harddrive and plug it into an external case and then wipe it.
I recently upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6 from OS X 10.5, but after that I have been unable to unlock the security preferences. Also whenever I try to install any software or update, instead of asking me the administrator password, the system does nothing, no dialog box appears. When I tried to unlock the security preferences in the System Preferences, after the clicking the 'lock' icon, the status bar shows "Authenticating....." for a couple of settings but nothing happens after that!
I am using Intel MacBook with Core 2 Duo 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM
I have had my MacBook for almost two years and the battery had just died on me. So I sent it back to Apple and got a new one. But ever since switching over to this new battery, my computer has had issues starting up. A grey screen fades into white and the Apple logo never appears. The computer will just stay like that for hours. A friend suggested turning the power off and back on, holding apple+ctrl+P+R, which worked. However, the next time I turned my computer on, the screen stayed white again, without an Apple logo. Can you tell me what the deal is? Should I bother reporting this to Apple? Is this permanent damage I'm going to have to go thru everytime I start me laptop? Any way to fix it? Thanks.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running an iMac G5 (just pre Intel) using OS 10.4.11. My internet is via an external modem, ethernet connected. Everything is working fine (as far as I know!) However, for no particular reason I opened "System Preferences" and on clicking on "Network" was confronted with this:- [URL]. On clicking the OK button nothing happens and the only way to get out of System Preferences is to Force Quit it. As I can't get into "networks" in System Preference, I have no idea how the settings have changed. I can't remember when I last installed any new software - it's also ages since I looked at that section of System Preferences.

Unfortunately I bumped the switch on the power strip that my Mac Mini (1.42ghz G4, OS X 10.3) is plugged into while it was running. Now it won't boot up. All I get is the gray screen with the gray apple logo and the spinning wheel but no OSX.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get my applications folder to remember to arrange itself by name. I can change it while in the folder... but when I exit it and go back into it; it's reset to the way it was...
Also, upon completion of setting up my MBP, an error message occurred notifying me that something didn't complete or go through... however I can click somewhere in one of my folders to go back to it. Does anybody know what this is? I can't remember what it said earlier...
Finally... in Mail... is there a way to get rid of the "RSS feeds" thing? Also, I have an AOL account and I can't stand the fact that every time I open mail a new subfolder appears called "Saved IM's"... why? I have never used it and keep deleting it. Also... now there's "mailboxes" with just inbox, sent, and trash.... which is nice but then also my email address has its own menu under it?
After a lot of fruitless time-consuming crap including reinstalling my OS and deleting all my preferences, they created a new useraccount and it didn't have the problem. So they said I should just make a new account and migrate everything over there and use that.
Well, I've spent the last 8 hours trying to put everything to rights after everything they did to my computer. And I got most things taken care of. However, when in iTunes (which I had to reload my entire library into), I find that I can't edit information on any of the songs. I looked into file info and even though I told it to "apply to enclosed items" when I gave the new account read/write permission and transferred ownership.... it didn't do it. The files within the folders are still set as being owned by the old account, which, I assume, is why I can't edit them.
There has to be a way to fix this that doesn't involve going through 14,000 songs and individually changing their permissions settings, but I can't find it.
Right now this in my system preferences. I once installed LaTex but then uninstalled it. Problem is it still shows it in system preferences.

I use Apple Mail 8.1. I tried installing SpamSieve 2.9.18 [to protect against a deluge of spam not handled by Apples's Junk Mail system] on my early 2011 17" MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.1 At step creating Rule to move all messages to Spam folder, spinning wheel of death appeared. Had to restart Apple Mail, then unable to open Mail Preferences. Have uninstalled SpamSieve by their directions, yet Mail still won't allow opening of Preferences window. Mail also no longer appears when I click on its icon in the dock, unless I hide all other applications. Plus cannot initiate a new mail message (although it still receives new email). "About Mail" also no longer does anything. I am tempted to reinstall Apple Mail 8.1 (not at all clear how to do that)...

I was browsing through my system preferences and saw something unusual. Under my sound menu, there was not only my Internal Speakers - Built in Output, but there is also an "XYAggregateAudio406." I don't know what it is, but i suppose there is a driver somewhere for it that i should remove somehow to get it off? Any ideas? Photo attached.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe computer is a dual G4 1Ghz with 2Gb of Ram and two hard drives. Used to run a custom built microscope in a scientific lab. Resurrecting it is imperative, as the cards and other equipment are now out of date and replacing the computer and cards would be enormously expensive (and worse, would mean switching to PC).
There are several issues:
-No response to selecting "About this mac" from the apple logo in the upper left.
-No response to selecting restart or shutdown
-The computer freezes up (pinwheel) whenever I attempt to access System Preferences (window will appear however once mouse is over it, pinwheel appears).
-does not recognize the USB key needed to run a piece of software.
-together these issues prevent us from installing the software needed to control the scope.
I've tried reinstalling (clean not archive) the OS on the original HD and a new HD. The problem doesn't go away.Have also cleared out the systempreferences.plist and the cache for both safari and preference panes.

Am able to set the year setting in the customize window to two digits with the pop-up menu for the year, which then appears correctly when the customize window is closed. However, after the Preference window is closed and re-opened, the year appears in 4 digits. The is occurring on one of the accounts. Â
The same procedure was used to set the date formats in the Administrator account, where it worked correctly.Â

I have had my MacBook for a while but have virtually filled my iTunes and am now wishing to store it on an external drive - you know, have iTunes appear so I can upload CDs on the go and such, but once the external drive is plugged in everything points to there. My problems are as follows (and, please bear in mind I am something of a dummy when it comes to this stuff - so basic talk please!!)
1. How do I rename the hard drive (when connected it is marked as "untitled")
2. I have tried going through preferences on iTunes and selecting the drive as the new location but when I attempt to consolidate the library it tells me that I have no privileges to do so.
The scroll on my Mighty Mouse will not scroll down, only up.This the second Mighty Mouse I've owned and the last one had this problem too.Is this a common fault? The settings in System Preferences are fine.
I am having weird problems with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and it's functionality with Snow Leopard.
Based on feedback I found online, I am being told to delete the com.apple.FinalCut Preferences and the /User Data folder. Still, I have to do that repeatedly. Whenever I open the Project file externally , FCP jams. Afterwards, it won't start up again.
Also, it is claiming not to recognize an DVCPro HD 1080i60 connection ; although, this is the same camera on my G5 Mac with FCP 5.1.4 and OSX Tiger
