I'm working in Photoshop on my macbook pro and I am getting this message that scratch discs are full. I dumped some files to clear up space and that did not work. I googled and tried to follow some advice of looking for temp files but I could not find where they are located.

What is Best setup for iMac with SSD and HDD? Best location of scratch & home folders?
Computer: iMac 2.93 GHz Quad core i7, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 256 GB SSD
There is not much info from Apple about the best way to set up an iMac with a Hard Drive and Solid state drive. I've looked at a few of the forum posts across the web and came up with a plan and lots of questions. (I do use photoshop frequently, but not on a professional level):
1.I will keep OS and Applications on SSD
2.Would you do it differently or not at all about moving the home folder? I saw some posts about moving the entire home folder, but it makes more sense to me to only move selected folders withing the home folder to take advantage of speed of SSD. So will keep the home folder on SSD, but move certain folders (document, music, iphoto, download, etc.) to 1 TB HDD via instructions I found on the macintoshperformanceguide website (**is this the same as creating an alias?):

3.I will attach an external hard drive for most of my documents and backup storage
4.My main question and here is where I'm not sure what's best?
I want to speed up photoshop as much as possible? Should I make a partition on the internal HDD for a scartch disk? If so, how big? Is there a benefit to partitioning for scratch disc use? Should I not partition HDD and use for data and scratch? Any other way? I wish apple had a how to maximize use of the imac with HDD and SSD page!
I have a G4 desktop top that only sees 127GB of my scratch disk. Is there a solution for this? It does not have the Intel processor.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNot exactly sure what happened, but I think it has something to do with the new iPhoto? I booted it for the 1st time off my external drive to create a X-Mas Card and imported 4 photos into it. Don't know if after opening it, it attempted to import all the photos from my external drive to my internal drive? Don't know why it would do that but there is no sign of it in the Pictures folder. Any ideas? Only other thing I did was sync my iPad, so I went into my backups and deleted all those files and it freed up 16gb. I started last night with 44 gb and don't know where in the f the rest of my space went? I've used DriveSlim to attempt to find any wasted space, but nothing turned up Is there a way to see specifically what happened last night?? I have Time Machine running I've restarted my comp, and still stuck around 16gbs......clueless as to where this Hard-drive space is being used. I've gone thru all my main folders (pictures, music, movies, etc...) and its not being wasted their....has to be hiding somewhere in my Library or what?
View 14 Replies View RelatedTonight i was working on a report in MS Office 08, and it was all fine and what not until one point i got some error message saying that the disk was full and i couldnt save it and to change the saving location. Anything this is on the main drive where i have ~40gb's left. So i put my USB Drive in to save it on that and it gave me the same error it wouldnt save on anything it just keep saying Disk Full.. Does anyone know what that is? Clearly its some sort of error/bug as i restarted the macbook and downloaded a picture and saved it on my desktop with no problems after the reboot. Im running mac osx 10.5.6

I came home for vacation and decided to reformat my imac g5 to get a fresh start. I backed up all my files, took out my leopard retail box, and was ready to go when I opened up the box, and noticed no disc. I have no idea where it went.I have the install discs from the computer when i got it, but it only has 10.4, so id rather not use them. I have the install discs from my macbook pro with 10.5, but I am pretty sure it will not work.So does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just go ahead and install 10.4 until and then just install 10.5 when i find it? (i really hate doing this, I hate having more than one version of an os installed)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI moved my iTunes media folder to an external hard drive to free up space on my iMac's hard drive. The new one is located on a hard drive attached to my Airport Express. Since then, I keep getting messages stating that certain items weren't copied to my iPhone because the originals couldn't be found. When I check, the iTunes media folder has reverted to the location on my iMac's main hard drive.
How can I prevent this? At best this is annoying, but it also is using up hard drive space unnecessarily. Is this behavior avoidable, or is it something that goes with the territory when you move your media folder to an external hard drive?

Equipment: Mac Mini (Early 2009), Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Lion. I started noticing my Mac Mini was having trouble reconnecting my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, slow processing (spinning pinwheel of death), and programs freezing. I did a recovery within Lion from the recovery drive and it seemed to work for a week or so. It started acting up again. So, I decided to erase the HD and reinstall Lion. I basically use the Mac Mini as a server for all my iTunes content.
My iTunes default save location is to my Drobo storage unit. Now that I have reinstalled Lion, I am looking for the easiest, most convenient, and safest way to change the default save location in iTunes and then importing the media. It would be nice if it was possible to just simply change the default save location to the folder I previously had all my media saved in and it would just magically appear in iTunes. Everything was organized perfectly, which took hours of time and attention to details.

I was just wondering if a full system restore can be harmful or if it's good to do every once in a while to get that "fresh" computer feeling. I just re-installed OSX and everything feels like new but was just wondering if this is bad for the hard drive or something.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I have my brightness at a certain setting and then start playing a game, the brightness jumps to full. When I then press the button for less brightness, it jumps immediately to the setting it was originally.
This also happens whenever I do alt+tab to return to the desktop. So it appears it happens when I do something that requires to switch to full screen mode cause it also happens with other programs.
At normal use, surfing, office,... this problem does not occur. And also it doesn't happen under OS X
I have a mac book pro...one of the older models...around 5 or 6 years old..the silver one with the silver around the screen part. Running Mac OS X 10.6.8,
2.33 GHz, 2GB ram.
Lately my computer has been rediculously slow with everything, but aside from that my issue is with my start up disc. I would have over 1.5 GB of space left, open up a photoshop file...make some alterations and save...and all of a sudden I have NO SPACE left. These alterations created the photoshop file to be like 50mb more. Its a 200mb file. So how can I go from 1.5 gigs to saving a 200mb .psd file and all of a sudden 0 hd space?
Sometimes I couldnt even save the .psd because when I opened it all of a sudden I have half a gig now. And even if I had half a gig why wouldnt I be able to save? I go to save and sometimes it says "your start up disc us full" - Is this different than my harddrive?
Is photoshop using some sort of weird caching thing?

Looking to put a 120 SSD in my Mac pro as a boot drive but not sure how best to set up along side my HDDs. This was my planned config, but open to advice:
SSD - system + apps
2x 1tb set up as 2tb RAID 0 - work files + home folder
1tb - Time Machine
This leaves one bay spare, but where would be the best place for my scratch disc, on the SSD? If so would a partition be the best option? Working in graphic design, mainly in Photoshop so performance is my main priority.
I think SSD drive with raid card is incompatible.I basically only use photoshop with very big files ( up to 800 mg with layers sometimes). and Capture One ( 34 mg RAW files )1/ I was thinking in getting a SSd drive ( vertex 2 series 120) and get another one as a scratch disk ( entirely for PS use) will 120 as a scratch disc will be enough?2/ If I just get a RAID card with my 3- 2 TB 7200 mp HD will that bit in speed the SSD workstation as I first mentioned?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a MBP with the latest OS (the MBP is last the previous model). When I put CD'S in to burn, they come out with a consistent scratch. I double check a cd before the burn, make sure it is scratch free, then burn it and sure enough, it comes out with a scratch. The result is that the cds are not even readable.Does anyone know what could cause this, is it fixable, who should I contact for help, has this happened before, etc?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm planning on getting the SSD + 2TB drive option for my new iMac and using the 2TB drive as a scratch disk for final cut (as well as my itunes media drive and a few other things). My question is will this much use on the drive be bad for it? Right now I'm just using external drives and when they fill up I get a new one so I don't put as much use on them as I would with the 2TB drive where I plan on just archiving the footage onto a external hard drive when I am done with project and then continue using the 2TB drive for my next project.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bough a 13in MBP yesterday at bestbuy because they let me get my student discount and they gave me an ipod touch for free without the rebate. So When I got home and opened it I noticed a pretty deep scratch in it right above the power button about a half an inch long that wont come out if i try to clean it. My question is do you think that would be enough of a reason to exchange it? I know its only cosmetic but I really dont think that should be there when you buy a brand new computer. What do you think?
