Software :: Open Old Disk Doubler Files On Mac OS X
Mar 29, 2004
I am trying to open some old files back from when I used Mac OS 7.5, 8.0, 9.0. The files in question were saved using Disk Doubler (from FIfth generation Systems) to compress them. I must ask first, am I correct in assuming that file type of DDAP and DDFL are Disk Doubler files? I'm trying to reopen some of those files. According to Alladyn Systems web site, StuffIt Expander is supposed to open Disk Doubler files. However, if I drag one of the DD files onto StuffIt Expander I get the following message: The file Insert name here does not appear to be compressed or encoded. It is advised that you obtain further information about the contents of the file from the sender or provider of the file.

We have archived files compressed by DiskDoubler while System 9 was current. We are now on OS X Tiger for which DiskDoubler is not available. Any OSX solution to retrieving our archived compressed files?

I'm leaving it even later than most to retrieve some old data. I have some Quark 3.32 (I think) files that were DDd in 98-99 and I'd like to retrieve them. As these are essentially text files I'm not in the slightest bothered about how they appear but if I can get the words back it would be marvellous. I've seen people suggesting DDexpand.sea but that doesn't seem to help. I have OSX and not Classic or OS9 or anything like that - have I left it too late? The material is not sensitive so even if I could send a couple of files to someone to extract that would be wonderful

All of a sudden my computer (imac, 10.4.11) won't let me open images downloaded from digital cameras (I've tried several - so it's not the cameras). I get the following error - "Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." Also the same basic error when using Photoshop and Fireworks. I can open files still on the camera, or saved to a CD - just not anything dragged to the desktop. I can still open pictures which had been previously saved - but nothing new. I ran the Repair Disk utility, which found and apparently fixed an Illegal Name error on the hard drive, but the problem still persists.

I'm using a 2GHz PowerPC G5, OS X 10.4.11, with 1 GB on one dimm. I cannot open ANY .dmg files. I have tried clicking the image, and also on a clean download used "open with" each time I received the following message The following disk image failed to mount
Reason: Device not configured
I have followed the instructions in this thread:- Disk image failed to mount: Device not configured.
Firstly Run /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
Click on "Macintosh HD" in the left column and then press the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.
Delete the file called /System/Library/Extension.kextcache
Delete the folder called /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernalcaches/
Restart
That made no difference. I then tried bobw's advice here Panther - Disk Image "mounting Failed" Panther - Disk Image "mounting Failed". That made no difference. I have since gone on to justanswer.com and the advice I received was to do an archive and install and then a full combo update.

Has anybody tried one of these with an SSD drive to replace the optical drive? Other World Computing even sells these with their SSD drives. I'm thinking that a combination of one of these in a MBP 13 would allow me to have both a high capacity HDD and high performance SSD. I wonder if you would be able to shutdown the HDD to save battery life when not using?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7) I wanted to kno if using a data doubler with a 256gb SSD and already having a 320gb HDD would speed up my MBP? I wanted to format the drives to use SPAN or basically combining space for one big drive. I didn't know if the HDD would slow down the SSD if I did that.

Does the OWC Data Doubler work with the stock internal HD in the Mid-2010 MBP 15' i5? (Specs: 320GB Serial ATA; 5400 rpm) -from Apple.com [URL] The reason I'm asking this is because I'm planning to switch out the stock internal HD with an SSD (Intel X25-M G2). Then use the stock HD and put it in the optical drive space for data storage.

My Macbook crashed so I tried everything to restart it. what finally worked is opening it from the install disk. I performed a "repair disk", and after saying "invalid node structure" and "invalid record count", it says it cannot repair the disk. I don't know what step to take next. How do I see if time machine has backed my files up? Do I need to erase the HD and reinstall?

I have an iMac with OS 10.6.8. I recently tried to open an old Iomage zip disk, but it wouldn't open. I got a message saying that I can't open the application using Zip Disks because the Classic environment is no longer supported. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get my iMac to open my zip disks so I can transfer the data on it to a flash drive?

Well, after using Monolingual on my iBook G4 late '04 1.2GHZ running Tiger 10.4.11 I tried to install an app from a dmg file and the image mounts but when clicked Finder relaunches (or at least seems to because it blinks off then back on as when relaunching) and the image does not open. Did I mess up the architectures? I left the architectures as marked by Monolingual and proceeded with the deletion.

For some time now, Disk Utility simply won't open on my MacBook Pro. Actually, it opens and closes in less than a second. There is no error message. Everything else on my machine runs fine, other utilities like Cocktail etc. don't report errors. Very vexing. Any similar experiences or fixes?

I am using OS 10.5.8.
In the past, I could double click on my disk image file (secure.sparseimage) and it would procede to ask for password and then open.
Since the last security update, when I double click on the same file, it opens disk utility. I then have to double click on the secure.sparseimage file in the left pane.
I checked disk utility preferences and it is still set to automatically open both read only and read and write disk images.
Anyone have the same experience and possibly an explanation or solution?

I have a Macbook Pro (13") running snow leopard and have a partitioned hard drive (half OS X and half Windows 7). This morning I was using the Mac side and was running low on disk space (very low) so I was moving desktop files into folders to free up some space. I restarted the computer to see what the free space was but the computer stopped/froze at the desktop image (no folders or dock appeared. I restarted the computer many times but the finder never opens and all I see is the desktop wallpaper. I donnected usb drives and put in dvds but the finder never appears so I cn do nothing but shut down and start up.
I ran Disk Utility but it found no problems with the disk. I do not have a backup of the important file forlders on my drive and due to low disk space I am worried to reinstall and archive the OS since there may not be enough disk space to archive (only about 220 mb free on the apple side when I am in windows using bootcamp).
