Software :: Importing Entourage Data To Apple Mail?
May 19, 2008
I used to use Entourage but can no longer open it (ID no longer works). I still have my old Entourage identity/data and want to import all of this into Apple Mail. But there is no option to import Entourage data without opening Entourage (which I can't do anymore). Any suggestions how I can import the data to Apple Mail?

I'm running OSX 10.7.3. I've been using Microsoft Entourage 2008 for my mail client but have recently encountered a problem - upon opening Entourage I get an error message that says, Microsoft Sync Services has encountered a problem and needs to close Regardless of what block I click on the error message will not go away and comes back within 10 seconds or so.I want to start using Mail, but I want to import the mailboxes I have in Entourage. In Mail, when I go to import from Entourage it does not work it says it cannot find the mailboxes in Entourage. Is there another way I can do this import? I don't know where the mailbox files for Entourage or Mail are located.
Info:
Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 9 GB memory

Is it still the case that one cannot import data from Outlook into Mail without having to pay for additional third party software to facilitate the task and IF so - do we know whether Apple plans to resolve this?

I've seen lots of threads go by about importing e-mail from one program to another, and my case is seemingly simpler, but I have had no luck so far.
I want to import into Entourage the e-mail from a backup of the disk. I know how to import mail into Entourage from other e-mail programs and I know how to import mail into Entourage from an archive created by exporting from Entourage, but I cannot figure out how to import from a backup of the folders under the "/Users/(username)/Documents/Microsoft User Data" folder, under which is where Entourage stores mail.

I have a problem with Apple Mail and I need someone to help me. I use Snow Leopard and want to use Apple Mail instead of Entourage. But, everyone uses windows around me and when I send email to them, they get my email as plain text. Here is my question... Even I made changing form plain text to rich text in preferences, my mails go still as plain text. Should I do something with Terminal? How can I fix it? Preferences richt text/plain text switch doesnt work.

I have 2 (Apple Mail and Entourage) clients storing 3 months of emails each and I want to merge them into Gmail. The messages no longer exist on the web-based servers and I heard IMAP might be in handy for transfering the messages to an online acct then transfering to gmail.
Any idea of how to do this with Entourage or Apple Mail?
BTW, they're both from the same email address, I just changed providors (hosting/email) during the 6 month period.

I am moving from my exchange server... and use entourage 2008... since i dont have exchange any more theres no need to use the buggy entourage... so in entourage i copied all my folders (mail) from exchange to local.
then i set up apple mail - added all my imap accounts (which are in addition to to my old exchange account).
If apple mail supported exchange i would simply connect to it and move my folders local - but alas its not supported yet - and i cant wait for the update.
so i imported from the import menu (using the entourage option).
It all looked good (i have a lot of mail - so it took several hours).... I clicked on a random message on of the imported folders... its blank... subject, from etc are there in the columns - but the message is blank -- tried another - blank..

I am trying to change back to the Apple Mail.app 3.5 from Microsoft Entourage and I can't seem to achieve this. I am afraid my Entourage will crash soon because my Database is currently 10.2 GB large. I had to switch 2 years ago from Mail to Entourage, after I lost all my mails because the Mail.app was corrupted. I have had a change of computer although I did migrate my data and was hoping that the mail.app was working better but it is doing strange things like importing folders with no content - although it marks them with the amount of mails located within. It also refuses to import (admittedly) large amounts of mails from Entourage, it doesn't matter if it is just a single folder or several folders. It hoards some old mails in its INBOX which remain there even after I have erased them numerous times. They just keep coming back.
When I use the import option of the mail.app it will not take over all my mails but will save parts of the database or crash when I try to feed it mBox files. I realise my databases are very large but there must be some way to import data from one programme to another. I think somehow my mail.app is broken or it can't handle the huge Entourage database, is there some way I can discover whether this might be the case? I am starting to think I should stick to Entourage because it has been performing faithfully for the past years and I like the appearance more, but because I had database issues under Entourage 2004, I'm afraid my huge database will someday become irreparable. I have a 2.4 Ghz Macbook Pro, 2GB Dram, System 10.5.6, Entourage 2008 and of course the mail.app which I've had to reinstall (with Pacifist) and fix with the new Apple Mail Update that was issued on DEC 23, 2008 (which is supposed to solve stability issues).

I know it's kind of silly, but is it possible to use Apple Mail's icon and sort of drag'n'drop it to use it on Entourage? I prefer Entourage as my email app, but find Apple Mail's ICON nicer, so would it be possible for my Entourage to use Apple Mail's icon in the dock?

I need to convert emails from Apple Mail on a 10.6.8 machine into Entourage 2004.
I read somewhere about pre TIger machines you could import directly via Entourage but not the newer OS's, something to do with eml and mbox?

On my powermac G4 I have my contacts in Entourage. There are like a total of 1200 and I really don't need all of them on my new iBook so I've limited it to 200 of close contacts and saved them as vcf. Then I emailed myself the vcf file and try opening it on my new iBook which happily imports them into Address Book instead of Entourage (it also seemed to lose alot of the details, like categories).
I look for option in Entourage to import a VCF and it doesn't seem to have it. How do I import a VCF into Entourage? Or how can I these select contacts onto my laptop installation of Entourage?

I used to use an old version of Outlook Express on my Powerbook 1400 running OS 9.2. Before I switched to my PB G4 (which a few months ago was replaced by a new MB Pro) in 2003, I archived my Outlook identity as a Stuffit file. The other day I discovered this old archive and thought I'd try to retrieve the message from it. I unstuffed it and the result was an "Entourage Database." Okay, but Entourage will not let me import from it. When I try to use it as the database for Entourage, it needs to be rebuilt, but when it is rebuilt, the file size is reduced from 190 MB to 18 MB and the content is apparently cleaned out. Does anyone know how I can get these old email messages out of this file and into either Entourage or Apple Mail?

Currently, I'm using on my iMac Yosemite and on an external Thunderbolt drive Mavericks, In Yosemite I use Apple Mail, but would like to use this also under Mavericks. I often swap between these two OS because of X-Plane testing purposes.
since Apple Mail stores all mail folders on the "local" Yosemite disk, I was wondering if it's not possible to move it to another external data disk and tell Yosemite Apple Mail to go to that external data disk to retrieve all mail information. When that's possible, I can do then the same for my Mavericks Apple Mail. End result would be for me that I always have up-to-date email available either I'm working with Yosemite or Mavericks.
Info:
Apple Mail, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), Also applicable Mavericks 10.9.5

Read the below quote from Mac Performance Guide. Is it a good idea? I know a bit of DOS, so I am used to command line commands but even after after Lloyd Chambers explanation, still not sure what is going to happen? ln -s /Volumes/Master/Mail Library/Mail
The reason I want to move my Mail folder out of the home directory is because I plan to have a SSD as my boot drive and the home directory is on the boot drive, correct? "Moving the Apple Mail folder to your data volume".
This trick lets you move your Mail folder out of your home directory onto your data volume. I've used this technique for years so that I can forget about having to back up my home directory (default location for Apple Mail) and simply back up my one data volume: Master. The same trick can be used for any similarly irritating program that insists on storing its data in your home directory, rather than giving you a choice (a few programs are too brain-dead for this to work). Programs like iTunes let you choose where to put your music; use that option.
Your Apple Mail folder is in the Library folder of your home directory. The trick requires starting Terminal. If that makes you uncomfortable, stop here! You are going to make a symbolic link.
0. Quit Apple Mail, and make a backup of your mail folder.
1. Copy the Mail folder to the top level of your data drive (or elsewhere, then modify step 3 appropriately).
2. Rename the original mail folder to Mail.old as an additional backup.
3. Start a Terminal window and type:
ln -s /Volumes/Master/Mail Library/Mail
This makes a symbolic link to the folder Mail on the volume Master (type the name of your volume, and use quotes around it if the volume name contains a space character). The resulting file Library/Mail is a tiny file that says "look over there on /Volumes/Master/Mail instead". From here on out Apple Mail won't know the difference! Launch Apple Mail and verify that it worked. If you encounter problems, simply copy your backup back into place."

I asked some time ago about the Mac Mini. Well, after that Mac Mini got that much expensive, I decided to get an iMac. Well and today my MacBook Mid 2007 died (doesn't turn on any more). Grr.
So I'm going to get the lowest iMac (21", 4GB, 500 GB HD, C2D 3.0 GHz) which is only Eur 300 more than the mini AND has a display. Besides that it's got 2 additional memory slots, so I can upgrade it for little money to 8 GB if I need that.
Okay, but my problem is another one.
As I stated above, my MacBook died. My Time Machine is from friday or so...
Can I attach its HDD via SATA2USB-Adapter and tell Mac OS to import user data from that SATA-HD? Or do I have to boot somehow from this HD to upgrade my TM to import it to the new HD?

I am trying to make an excel sheet on all of my photos. I have found a program to exports exif information in html or txt files and it is the only program I have found that displays the fields I need (Windows XP title, comments, keywords, etc). Anyway, the program will only export all of the data (I can't just select the fields I want) and it also makes a new files for each photos (and names them whatever the photo is named so yes sequential). I have been playing with importing html and txt files into Excel 2008 and need help. I am looking for a way to only import the rows I need and to automate it so I don't have to do 10,000 photos by hand.
On another forum, it was suggested to use VBA (visual basics) in excel on windows which looks promising but I know little about it and will have to borrow my sister's dell to do. Another suggestion was to combine the text files and use a Macro in excel in which I also have little idea on how to use. Can Apple Script or Automator or any thing else help me here? I know Excel 2008 for Mac doesn't have VB but what about macro on it?

I have a Macbook operating on 10.5.8. I have MS Office 2008 for Mac version 12.0.0 which includes Entourage. I have used Entourage for about 2 year with no problems but have accumulated a large amount of data.
A couple of days ago I got the message "Entourage cannot access your data..."...I have attempted several time to rebuild the database but at page 4/5 I get an error message.
It was suggested that I should upgrade so have successfully installed 12.1.0 but 12.2.0 won't install as "I don't have a software version....."

I have saved the MS User Data from Office X prior to whiping my HD clean for a rebuild ... A new install of Office X creates a new MS User Data folder automatically when opened. When I choose the import option in Entourage X there is no listing for the current version and when I select another version, Entourage 2004, for example, only the new "Main Identity" shows with today's date. I can hit "browse" so it will "see" the original "Main Identity" and select it but after clicking OK, only the new "Main Identity" shows with today's date is shown and defeats the import.
I have also tried Office 2008 > File > Import >"Entourage information from an archive or earlier version "> and tried either option Entourage 2004 or Entourge X and have the same experience: only the new identity shows with the new installs' date. I can hit "browse" so it will "see" the original and select it but after clicking OK, only the new identity shows with today's date is shown and defeats the import."

I have decided to use Entourage over Mail due to it's robustness and more features than I can possibly ever use. Here the question:I am coming from a PC using Outlook 2007. I have done my research on how to get my mail off my Outlook and importing it into Entourage.Fine, great and dandy. I haven't performed it yet but I have a couple of questions before running with this.1. I have MobileMe account. Installing that into Entourage was relatively easy. Done.2. Installing a new "mail" account (POP or IMAP), I'm going to assume is the same way BUT if I install this, will it mix with my MobileME? What I am expecting to see is that it would store separately in it's own section. What is right?

Did a regular upgrade of Leopard to Snow. Ran Entourage data base utility. Nothing happened. Waited 5 minutes figured that was long enough. If I can't fix a damaged data base, it may not be worth the upgrade. Can't get Office 2008 until late December. Suggestions? Reinstall Office?

Entourage has been playing up recently and on a restart today it said the database needed rebuilding and not being very technical I just did it without reading up first.
I had antivirus running at the time and I think this may have caused problems.
I reopened entourage and have lost all data between April and today which is a major issue for me.
Can anyone help me recover the old data and get it back into entourage? I'm not very technical so step by step would be great.
I was about to do a clean up because my mac is running very slow and I presume it's because I'm running out of space.

I accidentally deleted my entire exchange calendar. I use entourage to manage my exchange account. I have a back-up of the main identity file from just before the delete. Great, right? Sure, except that when I swap out the current (without calendar data) main identity with the back-up main identity (with calendar data), the data populates the calendar, but then gets wiped when entourage syncs with the exchange server. Specifically, the data disappears when syncing is at the "Updating sync issues" stage (as noted in the lower right hand corner of entourage during sync).
Neither I or my IT girl can sort out how to force entourage to use the local calendar data instead of the blank server calendar data.
Any ideas?

On entourage, I used my username, pw, domain, exchange server, ldap, and public folders server. This worked to allow me to get contacts, sync perfectly etc.
However, when I try to enter my username, pw, and put the incoming/outgoing server from the 1 exchange sever in entourage, I get an error that says it can't connect to the server. Is there a way to find out how to find where the info is that I need from entourage? My school isn't supporting mail, only entourage.

Just purchased new 17" MBP and am wondering what e-mail program you all prefer??? We are coming off many years with Outlook.
I set up Mail and it seems "OK" but I then discovered that Office 2008 has Entourage (I thought it was only in the Business version) and I am contemplating moving to Entourage before I invesnt more time in Mail.
We have two e-mail addresses and two different homes that we use our laptop at...with different ISPs...thus need a couple of different configurations.
From past reading I have heard not too positive comments on both Mail and Entourage...what are the issues with each
