OS X :: Trying To Play A Video TS File?
Jul 28, 2009I am trying to view a DVD (TS file) on my PowerBook G4 - I know the computer works because I just watched others, but I have two DVDs that won't play - I am just getting a black screen with yellow and pink frames that float in the screen when I click play.

Apr 16, 2012I have been having problems playing .avi files with my computer. At first it was running 10.6 and after being upgraded to 10.7 the problem is still there.Â
I have been trying to install different codecs -- Perian(1.2.2 & 1.2.3 and uninstalled DviX first), flip4Mac, etc, but everytime i try to play an avi file with quicktime player X, it says that quicktime player can not open the file 'A required codec is not available'.Â
I have also tried to open the file with Quick Player 7 and VLC, the strange thing is that the video 'plays' (the sliding bar is moving), but i see no video in the application window -- it was just all black.Â

PowerPC :: Powermac G4 Booting But Not Showing Video?
Mar 7, 2010My Powermac G4 400mhz Sawtooth is not showing any video. The mac 'bongs' and you can hear that it is powered up however it will not display video. Last night it was displaying video fine however.
It did have a kernel panic but I think that was due to me plugging in a external hard drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated as was about to sell the mac as I bought it for fun and it is simply a money drain now!

Sep 5, 2006I have a PowerBook G4 15" 1.5GHz. As far as I can remember, the screen had almost no "play" when I bought it and now has about 1.25in of "play" when you adjust the screen angle. A guy in my dorms has one and it adjusts very smoothly. Lets say I'm closing the screen to put it to sleep, the screen will come forward for about an inch before there is any resistance from the hinges. What should I do? I bought apple care so I'm guessing that might come in to play. Is this something I can fix or do I just take it to an Apple store?

Aug 19, 2008I have a 12" Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz with 1.25GB of RAM. I can't seem to figure out how to make my video playback smooth. I have tried so far playing videos from Itunes and also avi files. No matter what i try its still unwatchable.
I'm running Leopard with latest patches. Web browsing and other things are fine, its only video that is giving me problems

Jan 14, 2010Don't say VLC. VLC chokes this machine to death. 95% CPU usage. Frame rate is one per second. AVI files need to be played. Are there any codecs I can use with Quicktime v6.5? Or how about a different player? Quicktime seems to run smoothly on this machine. .MOV files play nicely. DVDs play fine. Can't do flash unfortunately.

I love the computer but the video playback on it is terrible. Even youtube videos are choppy. I can watch standard definition video files but not 720p. It there anything I can do or it is just a limitation of the G4 chip and time to upgrade to an intel?

Sep 18, 2010When I try to watch any CNN video, nothing plays. WHen I click on the play/pause indicator I get "02:37" in large type across the video area. The same thing happens to any video. It happens in Safari, Firefox, and in IE in virtual Windows through VMWare. THe same thing happened earlier in the year, then it seemed to resolve itself for a few months but now the problem is back. I would very much like to watch video clips from my local newspaper but when I click to watch I'm told I don't have the plug-in/MIME. Mar 10, 2010I just finished editing an HD photo montage and decided to export it as an H.264 quicktime file. I was aiming for a high bitrate since the pictures are in motion, and I ended up with a 1080p30 file averaging roughly 20-40 mbps. I know this is extremely high, but I wanted a blu-ray quality encode.
Playback on my TV via PS3 looks great, but for whatever reason, this file is bringing my 8 Core, 10 gig RAM Mac Pro to its knees. Opening the file in quicktime results in horrible stuttering playback, while VLC will start playing smoothly at first and then crash, citing "computer too slow" as a possibility for the error.
I'm having a hard time believing that this machine can't playback a high bit rate H.264 file. Any ideas? Oddly enough, the activity monitor is showing only moderate usage of system resources during playback.
Safari Won't Play Video?
Feb 22, 2012Safari on my wife's iMac does not display video. Our home page has a video imbeded that plays just fine on my Mac Pro and we are both using the latest OS, 10.7.3, and the latest version of Safari, 5.1.3. She also has Firefox installed and it plays the video just fine. When I check her installed plug-ins, she has the QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.1, just as I do. Why does video show up in my setup, but not on my wife's iMac when we are using the same software. Do I need to re-install Safari?

Jun 9, 2012I am not sure why but my computer froze and I had to re-boot it. Since then I cannot run any video on you tube. I get a message that says "this video is currently unavailable". Does not matter what video it is. BTW, My MacBook works fine so I know it is not internet related.

Aug 25, 2014When opening Entourage I received the error 'Could not open that feature. End of file reached' I tried Utility and rebuild. when attempting to rebuild a pane came up stating 'preparing to rebuild 0 of 0' and the pane has been stuck there for 8 hours. Every other office product works though.
