Does anybody know what font is used in the Dictionar App that comes with 10.5?
I think it is used in all the views but it looks the best in the Wikiedia view (I think it is 1.5 spaced)
regardless of the spacing, what is that font?
I mean this: [URL]. One of the greatest features of Lion I like is the pop-up dictionary. Since I am not a native English speaker, I use this feature a lot, and it is very convenient. But the only thing that bugs me is that I cannot find any way to customise it. The black text on the translucent gray background makes it difficult to read depending on the background of the application. I want to change the background colour and the opacity.The text is too small. It does not change with the text size of the application. I want to enlarge the text size. Is there any way to achieve this or is this another example of Apple's infamous use-it-as-it-is-or-get-lost feature?

I was wondering if there was a quicker way to customize the dictionary than telling the spell check to learn the words as I go. EG add one huge text file to the dictionary with all the words or something.
I still get beach balls when doing the basic of things. For example, it sometimes takes 10 seconds for the dictionary to come up after right clicking a word and selecting "look up dictionary". Then again, sometimes it is instant. Similar things happen when looking at a document that is a .pdf, for example, and I want to save as a jpeg. Whether I go to "save as" or through the "print" and then selecting "save as a pdf", it can beach ball for 8-10 seconds.
I thought it may have been a ram problem and from another thread I discovered the "activity monitor" and have that running constantly in the dock showing me "System Memory" and for the stuff I'm doing, it hardly ever gets close to half the pie chart.
Fonts on screen are much smaller than printed versions. Can't hardly see onscreen & I'm sending resumes!!

When I open pages it always uses helvetica as the default font.Can i set it to a different one like times new roman as a default.I mean you can tell it to start up by default to a specific page style, why not a specific font also?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got some internet going again after having moved. I've had my new Octopus for a few weeks tho. So much to my surprise, I open up my gmail account and it's practically unintelligible. Some weird cartoon like font is my default font. As far as I can tell, all the default fonts are activated and all the settings point to the activated fonts, but this is driving me absolutely F__KING bonkers. Has anyone ever had this problem? Now to be fair, I did install some fonts from a semi questionable font disk a week or two ago, so maybe some rogue font has hijacked my web fonts.

On windows you just right click the desktop > appearance and bang. How can I do it on the mac? I am a college student who has just started into the medical field, and I am wondering if there is a plugin for Dictionary or another application entirely that would allow me to have a Medical Dictionary on my computer?

By default OS X ships with the Oxford American Dictionary installed. I happen to be English, and would like to have my spelling and dictionary done in English English (with words like colour, aluminium, realise, through, etc.) as opposed to American English.
Does anybody know if it's possible to download a new dictionary, or change the installed American dictionary to be an English one?

since i got my macbook i used to always close the lid to put it to sleep between classes and every time I open it, it asks me for authentication and password... now, it's not doing that! and if I close it, and perhaps, go to the bathroom or something, anybody can open and it logs in w/o password....
maybe I changed something in Settings w/o realizing but can't remember...

I just remembered! in iTunes, I want to disable the little link button to iTunes Store next to each song/artist/etc... I know if I disable iTunes Store from Parental Controls, it'll do it.... but if I do, I won't be able to download Apps! How can I turn them off??
Spotlight keeps freezing and beachballing when I try to search anything. It may have something to do with yesterday when I killed the mdworker process in terminal because it was eating up too much cpu. Spotlight doesnt find anything besides dictionary definitions, but it does it really slowly with lots of freezes and beachballs
