Software :: Finding Mac OSX App Like Windows Media Center?
Oct 25, 2007
Are there any programs out there that I could send media to my Xbox 360 from the mac without having to go into boot camp and windows. I remember reading about something like this before but don't remember why or what it was called.
I'm considering using a Mac Mini as a media centre computer and supporting it with a eyetv dongle. Does anyone have an opinion on it's ability to do so. eg. Noise, speed, Graphics power? If it's not going to cut it, is there an alternative? I'm not keen on the Apple TV given it's limitations out of the box.
Just wondering how many of you guys here have been using the new Mac Mini as a Media Centre mac, and what your general opinions of it are? I'm fairly sure there is HDMI, but is the media playback up to par, and how easy is it to use from the couch?
I have a quick question for all of you with two Apple notebooks (I've seen in many peoples signatures that they have two or more notebooks). I brought a 15" MacBook Pro last week and finally set it up on Monday, the idea was for it to replace my 2007 13" White MacBook! But now i've had a change of heart and don't really want to get rid! I'd like to keep it of I can find a use to justify doing so! Just wondering what everyone else uses a second notebook for?! I was considering using it as a media center and for around the house/coffee shop browsing (My new MacBook Pro's base gets to 40 degrees so can't see myself using it on my lap unfortunately)!
this is my first post in here, I hope I've come to the right place I'm in the market for THE media center and though the Mini is very expensive I think it has a lot of potential. Well, this is what I need is there any way on the earth that I can have a media player application - namely Plex, Boxee, XBMC - to play 2 audio tracks simultaneously when watching a film? Thing is, I really like learning languages but my girlfriend doesn't, and man this seems to be the only way that I can imagine to keep my relationship while enjoying the original language films were shot. May I ask what the major drawbacks of this device are?
so i've been trying to use my 360 as a htpc to view media from around my network. I've run into some problems with it playing certain media formats as well as it not being able to see certain machines (those not running media center). Does a macmini running xbmc (or some other software) fare better in this regard than the 360? is the mac remote compatible with xbmc?
I have a Mini Media center that I installed Front Row onto. When I updated to 10.4.11 I found that Front Row was broken and I finally figured out how to get it going again. I'm posting this simply for the spreading of knowledge. What you'll need:
Enabler [URL] Front Row 1.3.0 [URL] Front Row 1.3.1 [URL] Pacifist [URL]
Installing: Put Front Row 1.3 package on desktop. (don't open) Open Enabler and Install Front Row. Enable Front Row (if you get an error you probably already have it enabled). <Restart> Use Pacifist to open FrontRow 1.3.1 package. Find Front Row App (System>Library>Core Services) Install the app and Replace when prompted.
I just noticed Logitech Control Center was updated to 3.1 earlier this week. This version is supposed to be compatible with Snow Leopard. Has anyone tried it out yet?
I just got a MacBook Air from work. I want to install iphoto. I bought it at itunes, but I cannot access it. It exists in my app column of itunes, but I want it on my desktop.
I have 100% of my songs for iTunes stored on a USB Hard Drive.
I dont let iTunes organise my library, nor copy to iTunes library when adding
The default iTunes Media Folder is located on this drive where about 70% of the songs are (songs that have been ripped from CD or downloaded. My USB HD was plugged in correctly, but a song couldnt be found...so I tried another and it found it straight away...odd
I then hit 'Get Info' on the bad songs, and the location that Itunes was looking in, was changed to a new Default iTunes Music Folder on my Macs drive
Very strange as I have never known iTunes to change the location of a file before within the library?
Ive come to the conclusion that it was only the files that were stored in the Default iTunes Media Folder that coudnt be found.
So I then checked in preferences, to see where the Default iTunes Music Folder was, and it was on my Macs Drive, instead of the USB drive (possibly due to starting iTunes up, without my HD plugged in)
Changed this back to location on my USB Hard Drive, and all of a sudden iTunes re-writes my library to show all the files in the correct position again! Ive never known it do this before on my PC, is it a new feature?
I downloaded a complete album, but only received half-songs on most of them. They play to about the halfway point and then skip to the next song. How do I get the rest without repurchasing the song?
Im having trouble with VMware.. If I set the wireless network connection to NAT, the internet works, but my xbox 360 wont show up in the media streaming options in windows media player. However, if I change the network settings to bridged, I lose my internet connection (well.. sometimes it works.. 80% of the time it doesnt..) Connecting to bridged is the only way I can connect to my 360, and only some of the time where the internet will work. Is there a way to fix the problem with bridged or NAT so they both work together?
Does anyone know or have the same problem where pressing the F7, F8, F9 keys (which are previous, stop/pause, and forward) doesn't work in iTunes unless iTunes is the "active" window? I know that in OS X that if i pressed those buttons, it would do it even if I was in another application, but in the Windows 7 version it won't do it if another application is "active." Also, the same applies to the Apple Remote.
Here's a new one for me. My 3 media keys don't work for any applications such as Windows Media Player, iTunes, Open Pandora. Everything else works though?!? I reinstalled the keyboard driver and there has been no change. It's like those keys are disabled. Pressing fn will let them use their typical F function, so they work, it's just being blocked by the BootCamp manager or something.
Something else - they keys are invisible to the OS. I can't use a 3rd party hotkey manager to just reassign them.
As you know, Boot Camp 3.0 allows the window partition to see Mac files and folders without additional software.
I am trying to set up Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center to use on my Xbox 360.
When I tell Windows Media Player to load files from a Mac folder, I can navigate to that folder no problem, but after going through the steps, it fails to load ANY media.
I've followed several tutorials on how to get this done, as it seems so simple but it's not working on my end. I've moved the iTunes folder from the /music/ to an external hard drive. I'm opening iTunes, going to Preferences, Advanced, and replacing the iTunes Media folder location to the correct one /Volumes/Volume E/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media Â
I'm checking Keep iTunes Media folder organized & Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library, clicking on the "OK" button, and nothing happens.Â
Funny enough, Spotify finds it in seconds and I can play my music from that player instead.
I recently switched to a macbook and I love it! I spend a lot of my time listening to music, but I frankly think, that itunes is a quite horrible piece of software. Is it possible to run Windows Media Player 11 in OSX? I find it far superior to itunes in every way, especially the interface. So is there some way to run WMP instead for playing my music?
I have a Mac OS X Tiger system and attempt to install windows media player for Mac, it downloads successfully. However once it has downloads the icon appears as blankpage and a .sitx file and when I attempt to open it I get a "there is no default application specified to open the document, choose application" message, I've clicked choose application but can't find one that works. Does anyone know what is wrong, and what I can do to solve it?
I just got myself a new iMac 27" i5. And I want to use Windows 7 (64-bit Ultimate Edition) alongside OSX Snow Leopard. The best way to do is I think with BootCamp, as I will be using it for a few hours straight. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Btw is 64-bit version of Windows 7 better suited than the 32-bit?
I want to transfer all my existing files from my laptop to my iMac, including iTunes account and data. What is the best way to do so?
And lastly, is it posible to make a separate partition with all documents and movies/music etc. to be usable it both operating systems? If so,
I was wondering if its possible through bootcamp (or any other way) to have a third partition on a given boot camped hard drive that I could store music and documents and the like so that both OSX and XP could both see?
i am trying to listen to a radio station in firefox but i cant get it to work. i tried it on my windows laptop and it looks like it is windows media. so how the heck am i supposed to play streaming windows media files?
i was trying to download the windows media player from the apple site`s link - donwloads, but i cant !?! also, im trying to watch some online tv, but i need windows media player. i go to their site
[URL]
but when i download the WMP for mac OS X, my mac cant read the file and it presents in the text edit application ?
