Software :: Disappear Music External Memory Drives List

I have one of those external memory drives, nothing fancy just a 250gig deal that I have ALL of my music on. Well I usually keep it plugged into my laptop here at school, but today I accidently unplugged it without doing the proper eject procedure. So it disappeared from my Drives list and now when I plug it in, it still doesn't show up. How the hell can I get this thing to show up and let me listen to my music again.

I have a 500GB g-drive that I use with my macbook Pro(running Leopard O/S, current version). Because I just about maxed out the hard drive on the mac, most of my Aperture photo libraries reside on the g-drive, in a volume labeled "Aperture Photos." Something very weird happened a couple days ago that really spooked me. The G drive is configured in 4 volumes, and upon ejecting one of the volumes from the Finder window (by dragging it to the Trash which normally doubles as an Eject mechanism) my volume disappeared without the usual prompt that says something like: do you want to eject all So here I am, looking at my Finder screen, and 3 out of 4 of the G drive volumes remain listed in my Devices list, but the one with the photos on it is gone. With fear in my belly, I looked in the trash, and it looks like the contents of the entire volume ended up in there!!! So panic mode set it what do I do?!? How do I restore it? Whats weird is that the missing volume and its icon shows up on the desktop, but not in Finder, making it all but useless.

My external hard drive suddenly broke on me - the dreaded click of death - and now i am trying to gather as much information as possible about what i had on the drive. I have a slight idea, but i can't really remember everything. So basically what i am wondering, does Mac os x (SL in my case) store some kind of log file (text or similar) with information about what has been moved to external hard drives the past, say, 12 months?

I don't want my MBP to show up in the shared list when I'm connected to my work network. I've unchecked everything in the shared list in system preferences but it still show up on other computers.

Basically I want to take a dump of my iTunes Music Library, and create a website out of it, so I can keep track of what music I have when I'm not on the laptop that has iTunes on it. I've tried Delicious Library 2, but I don't like how it creates the website, I want to be able to have it broken down by Artist, and Album, the above mentioned breaks it down by Artist, and all artist albums. More or less I want to click on a Artist, and it show me the albums I have for it. I don't need song titles at all.

I just bought two 8 GB memory drives and I installed them myself into my Late 2011 mac book. When I turned it on, it said that it was only utilizing on of the memory slots. Is my mac book capable of reading two 8 GB memory drives or did I install one of the drives wrong?

if you'd be so kind...I've had my iMac for almost a year, but have yet to make the big switch totally.
I am getting an external drive today to store music, photos, etc. Simply enough to set them up and have items go directly to it instead of internal drive? I know it is, just want peace of mind
MY big ?...I have lots of music on itunes on my pc...can I take it off the pc and out onto the external to use with my imac? Still have to do two separate partitions, or? Or, easier to get all my music onto ipod, then use Expod to download to the external? Once it is all on the external, how do I call it up, easily? itunes automatically search to play music from it and save new music to the external or do I have set it up or assign things differently?

At the moment most of my music is either stored on my Macbook or on an external hard drive. Is it possible to transfer all my music and videos to an external hard drive and then sync it with Itune so that every time I plug it in I can access them?

I have transferred my itunes music on to my external HD. The music is there and that is fine. I then deleted the old itunes folder from my actual HD. I have now wanted to access the music on the external HD, and have attempted to select the new music file location on the external HD via the itunes/preferences/advanced window,selected the new file path and it will just not show in itunes!

slideshow preset does not display list of itunes songs for music to accompany slide show (it did use to do this perfectly satisfactorily). Clicking to open itunes does not work.

I have lost the use of my Matshita DVD-R UJ-85J. I purchased my computer in 2006, had optical disc drive replaced in 2009 and iafter three years of limited use, the second one will no longer burn discs...I have tried all of the options available on this site....so I think I am going to invest in an external burner, a La Cie. However, would it be possible for me to store some of my music and photos on a zip drive? I have never used them before and wonder if this computer will work with them. My iPhoto is so full and I want to remove some of the pics and store them.

I apparently have 111gb of music on my computer, but only 55.something in my iTunes library. Every time something is downloaded or added, I add it right to iTunes. There is nothing that has been downloaded or ripped and not added to iTunes. Thus, the amount of music in my iTunes library should match what my memory actually shows.

In other words... I have moved my music library to the external hard drive, as per an earlier thread I read here on the forums. It worked like quite well. Now that it is working perfectly, I am having a hard time leaving well enough alone. It is never a good idea for me to think too much...Can itunes be installed and run on/from an external hard drive? ...now I don't have the same functionality with iTunes. Basically, I can't use iTunes at all anymore as the interface for my music and videos. Once the external drive is mounted, I can navigate through it and play individual songs, but I can't use iTunes to do that. All my previous Playlists show up down the left side of iTunes, but there isn't any music in them.
I downloaded 2 songs yesterday, made a Playlist out of them, and because the path in the Advanced tab of the iTunes Preferences is correct, it automatically added the songs to the external hard drive. I synced my iPod and it was completely erased except for the 2 new songs. Is there a way to use iTunes to navigate my music like I used to when I stored the information on the internal hard drive but keep the information on the external drive? I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and the latest version of iTunes.

I wasn't sure whether to put this post it iTunes (since all my music is played in iTunes) or in Mac Lion.I purchased a new external HD because my old one is about to fail. However, the old one is working fine right now. I have both HD's plugged in to my laptop. I am trying to transfer the music files from one to the other. But the copying gets stuck, and after several minutes, says one of the over 1,000 songs has an error and the copying is stopped. Without choosing a few songs at a time and copying that way, and then removing the file the error message shows, which will take a long time, is there any work around for this?

I formatted a 2 TB Seagate Backup Plus Slim portable drive as MacOs Journal Extended Journaled (Encrypted). I tried to create four partitions on the drive, but got a message stating that not more than two partitions could be created.

everytime i unplug computer from wall outlet after a storm,,,,the external speakers wont work when i reboot...so i went to the sound on preference and the output channel will only list headphones and no option for external speakers.

Although they work fine on other computers, my external hard drive and USB key won't show up on my macbook. I know it gives power to them since my external lights up when it's plugged in, and I see that they're connected in the System Profiler, but they don't appear on the desktop. Also, my ipod shows up in iTunes, but the computer always says it's corrupted, although it works fine. I thought that was an iPod/iTunes thing but since finding out about my hard drives.

What backup solutions are available for backing up two drives on to one backup drive without causing any confusion?
My setup consists of:
- Powerbook (80 GB)
- external Firewire drive (160 GB)
- external Firewire drive (500 GB) for backup
I'm running MacOS 10.4.11, so please don't suggest Time Machine.

When I boot up, my external drives are not on the desktop. I discovered that if the Finder is relaunched, they show up and all is well. Another issue that may be related: When powering down, the computer needs a force-quit most of the time. It hangs on the spinning gear

I have a few external drives for my Macbook Pro. One of the drives is an Iomega MaxMini with USB ports on the back to add drives.
My question is; when I hook up the drives to my laptop I get about 4 drive icons on the desktop for each of the partitions, and when I need to remove them I have to eject them or move them to the trash icon.
Is there a way I can put the drives in a folder of some kind that I can just eject and make the desktop look less cluttered?

USB hubs /can/ be really cheap (given patience, they could probably be acquired for $3 per 7-port hub) If you go to conventions and stuff like that, they literally give away flash drives with the company's info on them. not the largest around, but I've seen 512MB (maybe larger now? that was several years ago) to get 343 ports, you would need 57 hubs ($171) 343 free 512MB flash drives cardboard box 18x18x18" (if each hub is 7x2x1", then 57 would take up 7x19x6") This would be big, but not ungodly so. This would give us 171.5 GB. (343 GB if each drive is 1GB) I'm not sure of the power requirements of these drives - might have to get hubs with own power supplies. anyways - is this possible? would it work how I think? USB 2.0 offers faster data transfer than SSD, but I don't know the speeds of flash drives.

I did a computing job after being retired for many months, and I got paid in hard drives.However, I also want to plug in my SATA DVD burner to the card at the same time. is that possible? I currently have a 2TB WD mirror edition that is setup in RAID 1 so it will mirror all my data. Now I also have a bunch of other drives laying around which I also feel the need to back up and currently I am doing this by doing a whole bunch of dragging and dropping and copying and pasting etc etc etc and this is making me very tired. I know that a setup is possible in disk utility but I am not at all sure about how to configure it so I wont lose any of my data.
Some details about my setup:
Mac OS X 10.5.6
PowerPc G5
Harddrives: two 1TB WD MyBooks, and two 500gig WD Mybooks --> these pairs need to mirror each other and make my life less of a hassle.
