I have MAC 10.5.8 and use Firefox 3.5.7. Whenever I download a file and try to open it, I get this warning: xxx is a web application which was downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it?Whereas "xxx" is the name of the file I downloaded.I want to get rid of this warning message. I could not find a way to do so in Firefox.
View 3 RepliesI guess it's a change with Snow Leopard, but now when I download a .nzb file and try to open it I get the warning message that it's 'an unknown application downloaded from the Internet' (which, of course, it is not) and I have to manually open that. A .nzb file is not an app, but an executable file (launches NZB Drop, for me). The fact is I don't think I've ever had the message fire and not want to open it. I'd prefer to just disable it all together.
I download files from the internet and they install but when I try and open them, it says please choose application and nothing opens it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAnyone have suggestions? I have a single 1.8ghz g5, 1gb ram, 10.4.10. I have a maxtor OneTouch III USB 2.0 200gb drive attached to it.
I can not seem to eject/unmount this drive. Every time i hook it up I just have to end up pulling the USB plug or turning the drive off suddenly to get it to "eject" but then i get the improper device removal error/warning message.
I have tried dragging to trash, I have tried apple E (which is what I usually do to any device) and I have tried going into disk utility and ejecting/unmounting from there as well. no dice.
About a month ago, a friend who had just purchased his first Mac emailed me and asked why his Dock DownLoad file disappeared. I had no idea why. He still hasn't been able to reestablish it.
Yesterday, I downloaded something and my Dock DownLoad file vanished. I have tried rebooting, using (useless) Help, Spotlight, Search, and several other things. NO JOY. NO DownLoad file.
1. Does anyone know where to find DownLoad or how to bring it back?
I have experienced several idiosyncrasies with Snow Leopard, but when I call Apple support, they are very nice, but haven't a clue as to why it's happening.
2. Another problem is that the Highlight gets anchored on something in Mail, Word, and some other Apps. When I click somewhere else, the whole area between the "anchor" and what I click on is lit up. Apple doesn't know what causes it. I have to go through multiple machinations to shake it loose. I don't know what it is that causes it or specifically how to "shake it loose". Neither does Apple.
3. When typing in Word or an editor, there are times when the type changes to UpperCase and won;t let go.
Another problem is that, at times, when I click on a file, it fills the screen. Apple is aware of this problem and is trying to find an answer. Nothing, to date.
Apple support can't tell me why the MacMail Inbox spinner disappeared or how to get it back.
There are times when I can't access the hidden Dock. After rebooting and trying other things, the Dock finally shows up but any additions that I have put on the Dock are no longer there.
When I put a DVD in the slot, for the first few seconds, it grinds but does smooth out.
I thought that SL was supposed to get rid of the "foibles". "What happened on the way to the Forum"?
Is anyone finding other SL idiosyncrasies? What are they?
If anyone can help with items 1., 2, and/or 3. I'd be grateful.
BTW, Apple says that items 2 and 3 MAY be caused by the wireless Magic Mouse and/or the wireless keyboard; however, when I use alternates, it still happens.
I have been trying to download apps on my iMac for over 7 months now. Every time I go to install I get this message, "The application could not be downloaded. The installation could not be started." I have talked with the support at the App store and they say everything is good on their end. Please help!

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had some trouble lately when downloading DMG files with Safari. In the URL bar I could see it was downloading and then downloaded however nothing happend. Changed to open with DiskUtility didn't do anything. Firewall had no influence. When downloaded with Firefox there was NO problem and everything went fine like it use to do with Safari. So I suspect it is a bug in Safari since this happens with all DMG files of late.

When I try to use Software Update it downloads the file but will not open, and shows me the error message, "Update can't be installed - Software Update could not expand the package correctly". This happened the first time a week ago and I thought was an isolated event, but it is happening again, so obviously there is a problem with Software Update. If I download it from Apple through Safari it works.

Is it not possible to view books on my MacBook Pro? and if the answer is no, then why was it offered to me via iTunes. I'm downloading a series of video files. I click on each link and they start downloading. I might have several that are all downloading at once. While they download I go on to work on something else. However, when each file finishes downloading, the program I use to view the video opens and I have to take time to close it and go back to work.

I have the "Always show file extensions" check box *un*checked, but now, on downloaded files most of the time the extensions show. No major problem, I just like everything to be clear and not messed up with .ppt and .dmg.

I've had no issues with wireless at all, but today when using my Macbook to connect to my network for the first time, I had a message pop up that I've never seen before and I'm not sure why. I checked the MAC address of my mini and it is not the one described in the warning message. I changed my wireless password immediately and do so regularly anyway ( weekly basis ) but the machine with the unknown [to me] MAC address is still connected when I look in the Attached Devices info pane in my router.

I recently installed Norton AntiVirus and think it may have changed a setting that I couldn't find. I uninstalled Norton and it didn't help. Every time I open Safari, iTunes or any other program that tries to connect to the Internet, it crashes. Strangely enough, Skype still works, but nothing else. I have OSx 10.6.8. It told me to install a mysql connector (I am new to all of this so I dont know what a mysql connector is). This did not have a DMG package available, so I downloaded the tar.gz as it was my only option. Following the instructions I opened terminal and entered the following command (as shown in image above): sudo pico /etc/my.cnf. I am concerned about the warning message - this is a work computer and I cannot afford to replace it if something gets screwed up.

I am using a mac book pro 10.8.3. i7, 8gb ram, 2.3Ghz. I use this laptop mainly for producing music on a software called Ableton Live. I also have an audio interface connected to my laptop to avoid latency. The audio inter face is called 'Traktor Audio 2'.
Recently when im on the laptop a warning message pops and goes aways to quickly to even read what it is. Also if there is any sort of connection, my logitech mouse has also started to act weird. Whenever i click a single time it double clicks sometimes and sometimes it is normal. i don't understand why either. i did some research on this topic and people said to open up your console and check. I dont understand what it means so i've attached a pic down here.
I have recently dipped a toe into the world of torrents (I know this is probably something that you cannot be seen to condone), some software packages contain exe files which previously my Macbook Pro, running Tiger, has been able to read and open but recently TextEdit has been set as the default application to open them. I'm not sure how this has happened, is there anyway around this without having to reboot the OS?

I have setup up Finder to view all folders/files. I know how to become root from Terminal using (su) and navigate to all folders and do things.
The problem I can't figure out is when I use Mac apps (such as TextEdit) to open a file in one of the hidden folders (such as /private/etc/apache,) I dont see them in the dialog even though I am logged in as root and have enabled the Finder to show all files.
Is there a way to view all the folders from these dialog boxes? I dont want to use vim or pico for editing.
a few days ago i installed a virus program on my mac computer i think it was called macaroni . but since then when i turn my computer on it loads up but not completely. the blue tooth application is stuck open and the suitcase will not open. also in the bar on the top of the screen the clock or nothing on the right side will appear and the computer freezes nothing will open?? your help would greatly be appreciated because i use my computer for college.thank you
