View 13 RepliesOut of no where, I can no longer download or upload anything utilizing Transmission or BitTorrent clients. Also, I decided to try the mail.app and it will not connect to either of my email servers (which are fine, setup just fine on other computers). Also, I tried thunderbird thinking it was a mail.app problem, but won't work there either. I thought perhaps I needed to check my airport extreme, but the utility app can not find it? Something surely is odd. I do have little snitch installed, but looks to be OK, but perhaps I'm missing a setting. Leopard 10.5.8.
View 1 Replies View Relateddoes the transmission torrent app let anyone download my files on my mac?
without my permission?
I am running the latest version of Transmission. When I open a torrent and de-select several files (except for one album) the download will not start. It is almost like the tracker will not update.
There are no Seeds, Peers or anything. It says "Time Remaining Unknown"
I have attached the torrent files as TXT files if you are willing to rename the file to a .torrent file.
I am only downloading one album from each of these torrents. Pinkerton, by Weezer and Double Fantasy by John Lennon.
These torrents are healthy. Not sure why this would happen.
guys i was thinking of installing transmission because i need a program for downloading torrents. is it safe enough ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have never tried downloading using a torrent app but I think I want to try one. I looked at one (can't remember the name) last year but it looked too complicated and had some bad reviews so I dropped that idea. Running Tiger on an intel iMac.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got my new aluminum macbook today, it is my first mac. on my pc i used utorrent, and i am currently *attempting* to use limewire for torrents on my mac.. the problem is that even though there is a download speed, single digit kb/s, there is no progression.. the torrents are still at 0% . if someone can help me work it through limewire, or suggest a different app to use for torrents.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHere is the real problem that we (MAC OS X) users are facing now.
1- The MACINTOSH HD, is already formatted with Mac OS Extended (Journaled). BUT, I installed bit torrent and whenever I want to download a torrent file for movie or something bigger than 4GB it refused as discussed above. WHY?? In my opinion, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) is also not supporting files larger than 4G?? if this is right .....Damn to MAC then.
2- I thought to myself, why don't I install windows XP by boot camp, and solve this problem??, but Boot camp request you to format the partition for windows with FAT32 so you can read the files when you are in MAC system, but this does not solve the problem as we still can not install files larger than 4GB. !!
3- Even if we format the external HDs with NTFS, MAC OS X will only read them and won't save on them or amend them, So we still can not install torrent files larger than 4GB. !! (Remember FAT 32 can not read NTFS, this means that the installed version of windows by Boot camp (FAT32) can not see the external HD which is formatted as NTFS, also MAC can only read it but NOT amending or saving.
4- What is the best solution regarding the information I have posted above. Please note I am using MacBook Pro 13" with Mac OS X.
Apple allowed us to install windows versions on Mac Computer but they did not solve the problems of the large files, especially files are getting bigger day by day, and also I can not understand why Mac OS Extended (Journaled) can not also read and write and save files larger than 4GB
Whenever I'm downloading any torrent larger than a GB my mac crashes after reaching 100MB and then a white screen appears saying" Your computer ran into a problem and needed to restart. Press any key or wait for a few seconds to start." And does this only when downloading a torrent larger than 1GB.
Macbook Air 11"
I have peak and off peak limitations. I'm currently using Azureus & downloaded the plug in Speed Scheduler, but cant get it to work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedTomato Torrent, BitTorrent AND Transmission are not downloading torrents. I've tried them all on many different files and not one single torrent file is working on any of the programs.
Tomato says:
"Last Error: Tracker announce still not complete 180 seconds after starting it, (at Mon Sep 14 '09 @ 10:12:24 PM)"
OR
"Last Error: Problem connecting to tracker - <urlopen error (60, 'Operation timed out')>, (at Mon Sep 14 '09 @ 10:13:09 PM)"
There seems to be a problem with connecting to tracker, however I have been using Tomato for months and it has worked perfectly in the past.
I just started to use 10mbps instead of my old 1mbps. But it looks like I'm having some issues. First of all I'm using the port 27960 for bitTorrent and it is properly forwarded. (I have a Tilgin modem, it was really hard to forward). I was using uTorrent app with my 1mbps internet and it was doing fine. I was able to download at full speed (100kB/s). But when I changed my ISP things started to change.
The Test:
-I'm downloading 5 of the most popular torrent files. My friends with the same ISP as me can download these torrents 2MB/s at their homes.
-I'm using Vuze, uTorrent and Transmission as the torrent app.
On all applications my Port seems to be open. I have green light.
On Vuze;
-It is a little complicated for me. And it hangs usually. So I'm not using it.
On uTorrent;
-My download speeds up to max 250-300kB/s (Total download, not per torrent.)
On Transmission;
-Well, this is the strangest. My download speed goes up to 700kB/s. But it goes like 5kB/s, 15kB/s, 3kB/s, 1kB/s, 400kB/s, 600kB/s, 3kB/s. Slowest speed for a second and highest for another. It doesn't stand still. It goes up and down continuously.
So I had a phone call to my ISP and they said there is no problem with the lines. Than, I tested with "speedtest.net" and "speakeasy.net/speedtest/". All turned out perfect! (9.7mbps to 10.1mbps) Than I tested real download speed with Firefox.[URL] It is downloading with 980kB/s. Perfect again. But when it comes to torrents, something goes wrong. I'm not using any antivirus or firewall.
I recently purchased my first Mac computer, a MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I receive free internet included in my apartment rent, and I don't use a router, instead I simply plug into the wall. I previously used a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista and there was no problems. I am not very knowledgeable about computers really, especially when it comes to the internet. I need advice on how to speed my downloads, but speak to me like you would 2 y/o.
I can't seem to find anything that applies to me or I can understand. I'm currently using Transmission for torrents and Safari for browsing, but my general internet connection outside of downloads seems to be fine.
The final version came out, and it definately connects faster and feels snappier try it out!

a few days ago my mac osx tiger burnt out its hard drive,
before it did i used vuze and it worked fine, after taking my mac to the apple store to get a free new hard drive, it came back all other applications installed fine msn etc
I got a new iMac on the weekend, so i transferred all my stuff over (by hand, not time machine cause i wanted a fresh install), I have a folder that i store my Transmission downloads in, so i put it back in the same place as it was on the old mac, and i kept all my old .torrent files. Now before if i deleted a torrent from the list but not the file, it would just check if the file was there and continue, but now it's not doing that, it's just overwriting them, because i had a few that weren't fully complete yet. So i'm wondering, is there a way to make Transmission check and see if the file exists first and continue instead of redownloading it all? i clicked Verify Local Data and that did nothing.
View 8 Replies View Relatedok, so i have a bt homehub, and i want to download things on transmission, but recently it has slowed to a crawling pace, despite having many seeders.
So, i heard that to speed it up you can forward ports, and whereas i am a good gamer, i have no practical skills with computers besides a few mainly showy bits of knowledge.
I'm using Transmission 1.75, Leopard 10.5.8, BT Home Hub with UPnP enabled and I've tested that it's working (my PS3 had no problems getting online and playing games).
I'm having trouble seeding. It seems that people aren't able to see/connect to my computer. I've set my firewall to allow connections to Transmission (I've also tried using other clients), I've set my router and Transmission to UPnP, I've also tried using a static IP but that knocked me offline, I've tried port forwarding but that didn't work either. I'm not sure what else to try. Has anyone had a similar problem, if so how did you fix it?
Basically, I want to know -- what is a port?
Sorry for the stupid question, but I looked and I couldn't find anything that explains it to me. I looked in the Network settings, and couldn't find it...
Basically, I am trying to troubleshoot a slow Transmission torrent download, and the one thing I can't do is 'check the ports' -- because I don't even know what that means.
I have a MBP and am running OS 10.4.11...
There's a bug in Transmission (the torrent program) that causes Macs to slowly crash and die. But it's really sneaky because it doesn't appear to be caused by Transmission, even though it actually is. I thought this was important enough that everyone here needs to know about it because I'm an expert Mac user and even I didn't figure out that Transmission was the culprit for quite some time. I thought the problem was a sign of my Mac breaking. What happens is your net connection stops working and you stop being able to switch open programs and/or you can't quit applications and you can't restart you computer without resorting to holding down the power button until it restarts, or other similar nuclear problems.

Don't Worry, Me and my friends use bittorrent to share large files, not pirate software...But anyways my new ibook, will not load transmission, either directly by clicking on it or indirectly by opening a file with it....I have tried the newest version 1.51, and everything

Just before the spinning wheel appears I notice that my internet connection drops to 0kbps up and down. View 2 Replies View Related I got my first iMac last week so I'm a newbie to OSx, however I've come across something.I've not been able to find an answer to via a search engine.I have a port open for the program 'Transmission' in my router's settings. I've tried several, and I've followed several different guides on how to do this, and yet it always tells me that the port is closed. Now, I know Mac has like infinitely better security than Windows does, but does it also mean that all the ports are going to be closed all the time? I have no idea, so I thought I'd ask here. It's a Netgear router, and I've followed a specific guide on it via. I've allowed the program to go through the Firewall too.
I am on the way to install Transmission on a Unibody 15".
I see the firewall has 3 different settings:
Allow all incoming connections.
Allow only essential services.
Set access for specific services and applications.
Which setting would be most secure but still functional with Transmission?
I use Transmission for downloading torrents and it's been going really slowly lately and I can't figure out why. When I check on Transmission it says that it's using port 51413, as per the picture below. So I go into my BT Homehub set up page and set up an application sharing option for Transmission like so: I have this forwarded to the MAC address of my Airport card. Am I doing something wrong here? Right now I'm downloading something and I'm apparently using 15 of 23 peers and it's going at 3.0 KB/s....
View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently use transmission but it doesn't like to play well with VLC. When I run anything at all on VLC (mp3, movie, anything) the files playing will constantly skip or lag. I turn off transmission, and viola, it works. Anyway, I do love Transmission but a buddy of mine says Vuze has been working great on his mac. Anyone have any experience on both of these programs and why you choose to use that certain one over the other?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 15inch Macbook Pro from Late 2007; well it worked just fine yesterday, but as of this morning the display will not work! It makes the Chime when you power it up, but no screen display; you can adjust the volume buttons and hear that it is on and the volume can be adjusted. The screen brightener and dimmer does nothing, as well as the keys brightener and dimmer. The apple website said to reset the PRAM which I did and then if that didn't work to reset the SMC which I did and got no change in my problem. And now the part that boggles my mind is I have the cables to hook up the MBP to my TV so I figured I'd atleast be able see it on the TV if the display has crapped out but its doesn't transmit the image to there either. Is it possible I caught a virus that kills displaying ability?
