My MacBook Pro (running OS X 10.6.2) suddenly does not respond when the "Enter" key on my external Apple keyboard is pressed. All the other keys work fine. I'm using the Apple low-profile keyboard with numeric keypad--here's a link to it at the Apple Store.
The problem doesn't appear to be with the keyboard; I've plugged it into another MacBook (running the same OS), and the Enter key works fine.
I'm working on a MacBook Air (late 2011 model), along with the Apple Wireless keyboard. The keyboard is a physical AZERTY (French) layout, but I change the mapping to US using the system preferences.  I work in the Terminal a lot, and I can't find the tilde (~) key. When I type where it would be on a US QWERTY layout, the output is the plus-minus (±) sign. When I type Option+N, I get the tilde accent character (˜). Terminal does not interpret the ~ and ˜characters the same.  My question: How can I enter the ~ character from the wireless keyboard? Currently, I reach up to the Air's integrated keyboard and type it there.

I have a MAC Book and am trying to upload some files from an external drive (OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro) to my notebook but am having trouble with it. When I plug it in, the drive doesn't even appear as an icon on my desktop. The drive works, is charged and is on.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a mbp with retina display and is not reading my rugged lacie external hd connected via the 2 usb ports. The lacie model that I have is the 500 gb one with the 2 firewire ports and one usb. When you connect it via usb you have to plug use 2 ports one for power the other for info. I'm trying that in the mbp retina and is not recognizing it. It doesn´t appear in the disk utility nor in the system info under the usb ports.

I have a 2010 Mac Book Pro that I just downloaded the new OS X Lion for the upgrades ext... I haven't had any other problems except that before I downloaded the Lion my Mac would recognize my external hard drive (WD passport). And now it doesn't, I even go to the finder and it doesn't even show up under "computer" to make sure there isn't anything wrong with my external hard drive I plugged it into another mac that doesn't have Lion and it would work. My external drive has everything 1TG of everything.

View 2 Replies View Relatedinstalled Win 7 with no issues except it doesn't recognize the Apple keyboard an wireless mouse. Rebooted in Win 7 and put in OS X disk and reran bootcamp as it said. Still doesn't see them and in Windows, the screen is on full bright and I don't see how to decrease it since the keyboard issue.
View 3 Replies View RelatedA friend has bought a Mac mini server by mistake (yes really, he thought he was getting a standard mini) for HTPC use. He's hit an immediate setup problem, because it's not recognizing the keyboard from his G4 that he wanted to use while he waits to get a wireless keyboard. Is there any reason why it wouldn't recognize the G4 keyboard? Could it be in any way related to the fact that he's running the server version of OSX rather than the client?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I've got windows running fine on my IMac, problem is that for one reason or another, I can't use any mouse or keyboards. On startup, when I hold the option key to choose which OS I want to use they work. When I'm using the Mac OS they work. I've even tried using my microsoft mouse, it doesn't work either. I was told that after installing the operating system I had to insert the mac osx installation disk so that bootcamp could install the drivers (at this point the mouse/keyboard was working). After everything was installed I restarted like I was supposed to, but when windows xp started up again no mouse or keyboard would work. I've tried my wireless apple keyboard, my wired apple keyboard, my wireless apple mouse and my wired apple mouse and nothing works.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.
I want to import massive amounts of footage from my camcorder and I want to import them into my external hard drive. The drive is plugged in, and is recognized by Finder, but when I hit import and try selecting the hard drive to save it, the external drive isn't there.

My problem is that My computer will not recognize the hard drive at all. it doesn't show up anywhere, and after attempting to reconnect it over and over, it will eventually pop up, and then disappear, saying that it was improperly ejected.
I have two USB harddrives and neither of them are recognized by my G4. One of them consistently requires two ports for power, so I'm not surprised that one isn't working. However, my backup drive (a Verbatim) should not need that and it is supposedly compatible with USB 1.1 ports. It shows up on a Macbook. I am also quite sure that the ports themselves are working.

My old NTFS hard drive (salavaged from my old PC and in an external hard drive caddy) has two partitions but when I plug it in to transfer my data, it only recognises one of the partitions? (unfortunately the smaller, less useful one. Of course.
I pulled up the information and it said i was only using 35GB and it said I only had 600 some MB available. I tried deleting a movie file from it and the available space amount did not change. I added the movie file back on to it and it took away even more space! I now only have 273 MB available on a hard drive that should contain much much more.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday, (Mar 28,2012) Finder was listing my external drive but when I went to eject the drive, it no longer showed in Finder. I cannot eject the drive properly. It is showing on my Desktop. I've done a disk utility verfy disk and it is recognized and no problem was found. I tried a new USB cable and the old Fire Wire (which doesn't work??). I used a different USB port but nothing seems to work. I've also tried restarting. I am running a MacBook Pro with 10.6.8.

I bought a Mini just a couple weeks ago and a LaCie 2big Thunderbolt drive. It's been working flawlessly, but today it doesn't recognize the drive and doesn't recognize even having Thunderbolt support and I can find nothing on Lacie's site or Apple's regarding this issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy father just sent me a DiskGo Edge external harddrive (used by him but only for some email files, no damage I know of) and it is not at all recognized by my computer, won't show up in disk utility or anything- it also won't show on my school's computers which are also macs. I've tried thier website troubleshooting page and no luck there. It did work on a PC before. There are two blue lights on it, and altough two are on when the power outlet is plugged in, only one is on when i plug the USB in my macbook. It's clearly the external itself since it hasnt shown on 2 computers-- but how do I get it to be recognized?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got home tonight, placed my MBP on my BookArc after plugging in the Display port adapter, USB, Firewire and Magsafe to then realise that I couldn't turn on my MBP without taking it off the cradle, opening it and pressing the on button! "This can't be right" was what went through my mind, but is it? There surely must be a way to turn on a MBP when it is attached to an Apple Cinema display and a USB Apple Keyboard while in the closed clamshell state. Surely there's a key-combination.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using a MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012 (no Retina) with an external keyboard (Apple A1243 USB). I was using Mountain Lion.
One month ago I was suffering a problem that both shift keys of my external keyboard were not working properly. Only if I press both shift keys simultaneously they worked. But, also other keys were activated (e.g. "e" and "r" or "5" and "6" on the number block). The keyboard works fine on differnet computers.
Only a full system recovery solved the problems, meaning this is a software problem.Â
Today, I'm facing the same problem again and don't want to do the recovery again.
I tryed this steps: One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond
I also updated to maverick, without succes.Â
